Just to bring a sort of revival to this thread: more fun with Google sketchup! 😃

1.) The Tablets of the Law: First Set

I decided to base the look of the first set of Tablets partly according to Jewish tradition. From Louis Ginzberg’s Legends of the Jews (more information from the Jewish Encyclopedia):

…Moses departed from the heavens with the two tables on which the Ten Commandments were engraved, and just the words of it are by nature Divine, so too are the tables on which they are engraved. These were created by God’s own hand in the dusk of the first Sabbath at the close of the creation, and were made of a sapphire-like stone*. On each of the two tables are the Ten Commandments, four times repeated, and in such wise were they engraved that the letters were legible on both sides, for, like the tables, the writing and the pencils for inscription, too, were of heavenly origin. Between the separate commandments were noted down all the precepts of the Torah in all their particulars, although the tables were not more than six hands* in length and as much in width. It is another of the attributes of the tables, that although they are fashioned out of the hardest stone, they can still be rolled up like a scroll. When God handed the tables to Moses, He seized them by the top third, whereas Moses took hold of the bottom third, but on third remained open, and it was in this way that the Divine radiance was shed upon Moses’ face.
  • Sapphire: Some think that the word commonly rendered as ā€œsapphireā€ in our Bibles, the Hebrew sapir, more likely refers to the similarly bluish lapis lazuli; perhaps the same thing could be said here.
  • Six hands: i.e. Six tefachim. A tefach is 8-9.6 cm (3.15-3.78 in) in length.Unfortunately, I never included all the 613 Jewish laws nor did I repeat the Ten Commandments. 😃 But I did have the ā€˜tablets written on both sides’ part, as is written in Exodus 32:15: ā€œMoses goes down the mountain, and the two tablets of the testimony are in his hand, tablets written on both their sides - on this side and on that side they are written; and the tablets are the work of God, and the writing is the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.ā€ What I did do, is show each tablet bearing all ten commandments in accordance with ancient treaty laws (where a copy of the full treaty is made for each party) and another Jewish tradition.

For those curious:

ā€œ"I am YHWH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves:
"You will have no other gods before my face;
You will not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water under the earth;
You will not bow down to them or serve them.
"You will not take the Name of YHWH your God in vain.
"Remember the Sabbath day, to set it apart as holy.
"Honor your father and your mother.
"You shall not murder.
"You shall not commit adultery.
"You shall not steal.
"You shall not answer against your neighbor as a lying witness.
"You shall not covet the house of your neighbor.
"You shall not covet the wife of your neighbor, nor his man-servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.
ā€

2.) The Tablets of the Law: Second Set

This one, compared to the first set of Tablets I imagined to be more mundane; it was Moses who hewed them, after all. Following Mr. DeMille’s idea I made these tablets to look like they were made out of red granite (there is an abundance of such rocks in Jabal Musa, the traditional Mount Sinai). For some reason I still made them to look cube-like though.

3.) The Ark of the Covenant

Technically still incomplete (I still need to put the poles; not that you would see them in the picture from this position anyway since they are supposed to be at the bottom, at the ā€œfootā€ of the Ark - contrary to what Indiana Jones may have you believe ;)); but I think that as it is, its already in good shape.

4.) Ezekiel’s Vision, aka the Divine Chariot

Another as-of-now-incomplete work, but here it is for your viewing pleasure.

I am really into oil and acrylic painting. I do mostly landscapes and nature scenes. God creates the nature that I try to capture in my painting. He also gave me the ability to paint in the first place. (Well, He, and my professional artist neighbor who selflessly gave me years of painting lessons. šŸ˜‰ šŸ‘ )

I second the idea that you should show some of your artwork here. 😃

I do sculpting. Figures and dancers (clothed of course!). I’ve done collages of Christ in the ''Three stages of man" as a child, an adult, and the crucifiction and resurrection.
I can’t seem to find them to upload them on my computer…they’re here somewhere.
I dabble in watercolor, charcoal, conte crayon and pastels. I need to get focused on something really pretty…Like the sermon on the mount…Christ and Mary are faves of mine to paint, sculpt or paint/draw. Joseph too.
God Bless you all!!šŸ‘

I’m bumping this thread since there’s so many great posts from a lot of talented people 😃

I also wanted to mention a new group, Catholic Artists & Architects.

There was a similar group, but it kind of died 😦 so we’re trying again šŸ‘ This time it will be awesome. Please come join us! šŸ™‚
