I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God for the same reasons as above; because the Church, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit tells me it is.

You can rationalize homosexuality any way that you want. You can use any argument you wish and in the end it comes down to some basic Truths:
  1. Christ established His Church on Earth.
  2. He gave the Church the authority to teach on faith and morals with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  3. The Church teaches that the act of homsexuality is a sin. The homosexual is a child of God and deserves the same love and respect that all of God’s children deserve. The homosexual is called to a life of chastity and abstinence.
we are the church…you and i who chose to follow the teachings of christ are the bride of christ.

The teachings of Christ are the same as the teachings in the OT. Homosexual acts go against the teachings of Christ.

Jesus said nothing about homosexuals. ***Paul ***did, but not Jesus.

Christ told the disciples that, “Whatever you hold bound on Earth will be bound in Heaven and whatever you hold loosed on Earth shall be loosed in Heaven.” This is where the authority of the Church is given its authority on the forgiveness of sins. Who are you to question the authority of the Church on teaching of sin? The authority of the Church (the Bishops) are guided in all truth by the Holy Spirit. What guides you? Is the Holy Spirit telling you that homosexuality is natural? That homosexuality is within the framework of the creative miracle that He shares with humanity?

Jesus did say I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. God’s law forbids homosexual acts. What is so difficult to figure out here?

OTOH, I do feel that a homosexual orientation is natural. There is more and more evidence of prenatal conditions making one more disposed, much like alcoholism. While this does not justify homosexual acts it does justify reaching out ot those who have the orientation with love.

I know you are new here, but if you spend much time you will “meet” lots and lots of people who accept the Church’s teachings without question. Its actually a laudable thing to do.

Well, there are political ramifications to teachings which regard human interaction. I don’t think you mean the Immaculate Conception of Mary (or similar teaching) is political.

No, probably not. This is why outreach and ministry to persons with Same Sex Attraction (SSA) needs to be done gently, with compassion and tact.

If you are saying that persons with SSA are suffering persecution which was caused by the Church’s teaching then I would ask for your evidence. The claim is rather strong.

No, it is still a sin. It simply is ignored. A similar analogy might be made to cheating on your taxes or smoking marijuana. Just because “everyone does it” doesn’t make it right.

No, not moot at all. What the poll data shows is the real need to evangelize this post-Christian culture we live in.
of course i will encounter many brothers and sisters in christ who believe other than myself. that is not important. i am interested in their on witness and reasoning that supports that belief or whether the belief is unsubstantiated. such as peters witness in acts 10 which substaniated all verses in isaiah about the gentiles. in other words a witness that substaniates an interpretationand of scripture or doesnt.

Because the Church tells us that the Bible is the inspired word of God, Paul was teaching under the authority AND was guided in Truth by the Holy Spirit. This is the same thing as Jesus saying it. Furthermore, how do you know Christ did not teach against homsexuality. Just because it is not recorded does not make it so. The Church has taught in the Apostolic Tradition since the time of Christ. He may well have taught it and this is where the Church’s teaching comes from. The Church has spoken against homsexuality from its beginning. It has never been an accepted lifestyle within Christianity as the Roman Catholic Church teaches.

How you feel has nothing to do with the teachings of Christ and His Church. Sometimes I feel enough road rage to shoot the other driver and its natural enough for a human to kill. After all, we were killing before our race was civilized. (And I’m not going to argue how civilized we aren’t!) The point is God says, do not kill.

You cannot argue both sides of the fence, here. Enough people have provided ample evidence that clearly states, homosexuality is a sin if acted upon. Just because a person has the desire to be a homosexual does not make that person a sinner. It is how we act out our lives. It is the fruit that we bare that makes us worthy of the Kingdom of God.

Who’s arguing both sides of the fence? I said the orientation, if it is being caused by prenatal factors, could be consider natural. I agree that the acts aren’t. This is not arguing both sides of the fence. It is trying to bring some peace to a heated argument.

Some people here are making it sound like the chaste homosexual, which is possible foks, is also going to hell by St. Paul’s standards. If this were the case we could look back at the Douay-Rheims translation and believe that an effeminate male would be excluded from God’s kingdom. I’m sure glad we don’t follow that any more. The translation should just be sodomites, meaning those who actually perform the act of sodomy.

goofyjim,
you are seeing things that are not there. I know you have been battered and bludgeoned before on these forums but that is not happening now. No one has said anything about chaste homosexuals going to hell. You need to grasp a better understanding of the nature of human disorder. You continue to think and assert that the orientation is natural. As the poster above pointed out, lots of things are “natural” in this fallen state we humans find ourselves in. The “disordered” orientation of homosexuality is not a sin in itself. It is, however, opposed to order in the same way as my propensity to envy, greed, sloth, etc. As fallen human beings, we are all subject to our fallen natures. We sin ONLY when we act upon them.

what is your understanding of witness? in scripture(the old testament required 2 witnesses) wouldn’t you conclude that lack of personnal witness raises the possibility of false witness.
What is this “witness” you keep referring to??? I don’t understand what you are trying to argue. You have asked for Scriptural references. I gave you Scripture references and links to answer your questions back in post #45. I provided a link with complete Catholic explanations and interpretations of the passages, along with the typical pro-homosexual arguments against them. Did you even bother to read the post?

As are the propensities to fornicate or adulterate. Do you consider these natural since they are heterosexual desires?

in oder to embrace a prohibition of homosexuality requires interpretation of scripture. how can you validate that interpretation without testing the spirit.

2 thess says test everything. john 4 says the true worshippers will worship in spirit and in truth. romans 122Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

therefore what is the spirit of homosexuality that it would come against the fruit of the spirit and the spirit of christ?

surely everyone here on this site knows someone personnally who is gay…has anyone gone to them and asked them if they feel they are the samebased lusters described in romans

surely this would be more honest than the continued silent persecution. and you would finally have a witness to either support or counter your chosen interpretation of scripture.

If one is to read Church documents on this issue there have been many homosexuals who are verbally abused by those who mutter subtle inudendos under their breath. This is just wrong.

Certainly there have been sins by mortals, many of whom may have been church members, against gays in the past. We should not tolerate it now.

Seems to me that there is no reason that someone who is homosexual cannot be welcomed into our church. There is no reason that someone who is homosexual cannot be a good member of our church. In fact, there is no reason that they cannot become members of our clergy (Priests, Nuns, Deacons, etc).

What they must do, however, is to remain chaste/celebate because in our Church, the sacrament of Marriage is primarily for the purpose of creating children.

Therefore, there can be no allowance for homosexual ‘relations’ any more than there are allowances for premarital heterosexual relations. We do not condone premarital sex. We also do not condone homosexual marriage because it cannot create a child. Therefore for a homosexual to be a good practicing Catholic, they must be chaste.

As for all the statistics, I don’t know or care if they make up 3% or 10% of the population. I suspect it is closer to 3%. I don’t see the need to teach a “pro-gay” agenda in the schools, I don’t see the need to have a gay pride parade where people dress up in ballet outfits or wear dog leashes and diapers and parade down the streets of Chicago, San Franscisco, etc. Basically I don’t want to see public sexual displays (by gay or straight people). But what I do care is if people are following The Lord, and if they are trying to be good Catholics. I’ll sit down to dinner with anyone of any age, ethnicity, race, sexual leaning, etc and have them as my friend if they have a good heart. How can someone who is openly anti-gay have a good heart within the definitions of the Catholic Church?

The Church has stated otherwise:
In the light of such teaching, this Dicastery, in accord with the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, believes it necessary to state clearly that the Church, while profoundly respecting the persons in question[9], cannot admit to the seminary or to holy orders those who practise homosexuality, present deep-seated homosexual tendencies or support the so-called “gay culture”[10].
Such persons, in fact, find themselves in a situation that gravely hinders them from relating correctly to men and women. One must in no way overlook the negative consequences that can derive from the ordination of persons with deep-seated homosexual tendencies.
Different, however, would be the case in which one were dealing with homosexual tendencies that were only the expression of a transitory problem - for example, that of an adolescence not yet superseded. Nevertheless, such tendencies must be clearly overcome at least three years before ordination to the diaconate.
