sighThat’s agreeing to disagree? Wow. Strangest interpretation of the phrase I’ve ever encountered.
I do not understand you here. There is no “interpretation”. It is merely a way to say that any further argument is pointless.
Look. This thread isn’t about you or me. It isn’t about judgment, condemnation, sin, retribution, or fire and brimstone. For crying out loud, it’s a thread about BILLY JOEL and why or why not his music is appropriate.
This thread (which I did not start) is exactly about judgement and condemnation. Judgement and condemnation of Billy Joel. I only posted to it to make the point (as you do) that it is only a song (with many possible interpretations) and is not important enough to be so negative about. Punch him in the face?
Please note: if you want to get along well in a forum, any forum, it pays to be considerate of others
**I have been considerate. I do not think that asking people to be civil is impolite. Do you? I admit that my last response to the attack on me was a little forceful but it was just that, a response. I did not initiate the attack. **
If, on the other hand, you’ve been in discussion with us for a time already then you have at that point earned the right to speak to the matter.
Again trying to be polite…are you kidding? Do you actually believe that people have to “earn the right” to speak here?
I spoke when I did because that is when I first visited here and noticed the nasty, violent comments. I do agree with you that a thread about a song is simply not that important, but this whole arena is not important enough that someone has to earn the right to participate. Who would have thought that asking a group of Catholics to refrain from making nasty, violent comments would provoke so much anger. As I said earlier, amazing stuff.
This grows tedious. And redundant.
- Your interpretation of agreeing to disagree seems to mean slamming the other person with two very large paragraphs. Sounds more like agreeing to argue.
- The thread is, I repeat, about a Billy Joel song, believe it or not. Judgment and Condemnation are just down the hall in Moral Theology, a fascinating little forum which I believe you will find quite suitable.
- I, as you will no doubt find when you read the thread in its entirety, never used the phrase “punch him in the face.”
- Yes, I do believe that the way you approached this thread was impolite. Highly impolite.
- In any social setting, one earns the right to be heard. It’s called rapport. Gaining such is as simple as stepping into the conversation with an air of respect for those present. This is a fundamental law of communication.
