Is chastity realistic in the 21st century?

This bears repeating, so I’ll just bump it.
 
Memo to God.

We are aware You have been working on matters Eternal and Divine - for which we are, of course, very grateful - but in that time certain changes have occurred here of which we feel the need to bring to Your attention. Said changes involve specifically matters of chastity which, as You know, has been a pet peeve of ours for quite some time. We have now decided that it is simply too onerous, inconvenient and, let’s face it, outdated to adhere to that mandate issued so very long ago, the Sixth Commandment. It has served its function but, frankly, we now feel we are past that. Change is always hard but we’ve worked on this for a while and we are sure that after some time You will see things our way. Please have fresh tablets of the Nine Commandment to us by the end of next week if possible. Thank You for Your understanding in this matter.

PS: Be advised we are currently revisiting the whole contraception and beginning of life thing as well. More on this to follow.
 
Since no one has ever died from lack of sex then I would say chastity is realistic for the 21st century.
 
If one Catholic and one agnostic teenager can be chaste, than I think it’s possible 🙂
 
I like to define things by opposition for it clears the air.
Are these things realistic in the 21st century?:

  1. *]aids
    *]prostitution
    *]adultery
    *]free love
    *]multiple partners in series
    *]pedophilia
    *]rape, assault, sexual violence
    *]exploration of children for prostitution
    *]sex slave trade
    *]sexual transmitted diseases
    *]polygamy
    *]homosexuality and lesbianism

    Maybe we better think what to be chaste is to define the question. If, I repeat, If we define to be chaste the absence of these points, then chastity is a must in the 21st century. If…

    Chastity is unpopular today, not because it is too much to expect a person to harmonise his or her sexuality with reason, but rather because he or she is exposed to sexually seductive stimuli and there are easy methods of artificial birth prevention to hand. In a world of materialism and consummerism, sexuality has become depersonalized and certainly exploited. Unbridled lust and promiscuous carnal relations result in the many evils to which you advert above, dear friend, to which could be added unwanted pregnancy and abortion.

    Chastity, dear friend, is a virtue that relates to reason and order but is sadly dismissed in our morally permissive age as unreasonable, impractical and unnatural, being bound up with so called Victorian prudery. Notwithstanding, chastity (so called because it chastises lust and concupiscence), allthough currently unfashionable and the subject of derision, controls lust and gives an exalted reverence for human sexuality within the right context, namely heterosexual marriage.

    It might be well for men to remember that human actions are good or bad in so far as they are consonant with God’s idea of what they ought to be, that is to say, God’s will. The eternal law of God for mankind is based upon the nature of human beings, which is created and bestowed by God Himself. We therefore have to realize that what is due to us by nature may be a right, but is also a gift.

The sixth commandment concerns adultery, not fornication.
