The unfortunate reality is that so many people are told by some others that if one believes in evolution that then cannot believe in God. I quickly learned when I first started teaching anthropology that this was one thing I had to explain to my students wasn’t the case because so many of them were brought up to believe in that false paradigm.
I can’t recall anyone on this forum claiming such a thing.
One of our greatest anthropologists was Fr. Pierre Teilhard deChardin
Oh deary, deary, deary me, your credibility has just taken a huge nose-dive … Fr. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was a New Age nutter who probably didn’t even qualify as Catholic (he remains, however, a pin-up boy for certain Catholics who exist on the lunatic fringe).

The Vatican forbade de Chardin from writing or teaching on matters philosophical, banned his work, L’Energie Humaine, and prohibited him from publishing at least two other works. In 1957 the Church forbade any of his works from being held in any Catholic library, institution or bookshop and prohibited any of them from being translated into other languages. A decree of the Holy Office dated 30 June 1962, under the authority of Pope John XXIII, warned that “… it is obvious that in philosophical and theological matters, the said works [Teilhard’s] are replete with ambiguities or rather with serious errors which offend Catholic doctrine. That is why… the Rev. Fathers of the Holy Office urge all Ordinaries, Superiors, and Rectors… to effectively protect, especially the minds of the young, against the dangers of the works of Fr. Teilhard de Chardin and his followers.”

de Chardin has also been implicated in the Piltdown Man hoax.

And you recommend this clown?

Life evolves, and of that there simply is no doubt. We can debate the details, but the handwriting has been clearly on the wall for over a century now. In order for some to try and negate this, frankly they have to lie and/or parrot someone else’s lies, often drawing up absurdities about how dumb, corrupt, or monolithic scientists are. Of course they cannot prove it, but they parrot it nevertheless.
You can’t prove that all life on earth evolved from microbes, but you parrot it nevertheless.
As one who’s studied and been involved in science for over 50 years, I can easily vouch for the fact that these conspiracy theories are bogus and disingenuous. Even one who reads “Scientific American” once in a while can read how scientists often disagree with each other.
But you’re an anthropologist, not a biologist; so why should anyone listen to you, an armchair “scientist”?

Furthermore, if you’ve spent 50 years studying how all life on earth evolved from microbes, then you’ve spent 50 years studying a story that can’t ever be tested and is scientifically worthless. In short, you’ve wasted your time; you may as well have studied the Tooth Fairy.
Anyhow, any religion or denomination that teaches that life forms have not evolved is a bogus religion or denomination as Truth is not relative.
The Catholics Church teaches that the faithful are free to reject evolution and believe in a literal “six days” interpretation of Genesis 1. So does this mean Catholicism is bogus or only half-bogus?
So, I just leave it at that and move on. I’ll deal with serious questions if I feel like it, but I will not deal with those who lie or parrot lies.
Well, I, for one, feel extremely privileged and honoured that you have graced us with your esteemed presence, your Majesty. How I wish I was super-intelligent, erudite and infallibly omniscient like you. And let’s nor forget your rank arrogance, which is perhaps your most admirable quality.

Please don’t leave us, Wise Master - we need you to lead us out of the darkness!

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I’m appalled at the hostility of some here.
Hostility? Me thinks you might be a tad over-sensitive. I’ve experienced lots of hostility on some atheists sites, but this one is very polite and mild-mannered (as a Catholic site should be).

I just thought of something. Why do 3rd-6th graders need to be taught about evolution? We don’t teach them how microwaves or motherboards work but for some reason evolution, which has exactly zero practical effect on their lives, is a ‘MUST LEARN!’ subject.

Seems odd to me.
The devil knows that brainwashings kids as young as possible works best. Marxists use the same ploy whenever possible.

Commiserations for losing the Ashes. Lord knows when you’ll get them back. Could be 30 years or even more.

"Consider the real teaching of our beloved John Paul. While his rather vague and unimportant 1996 letter about evolution is always and everywhere cited, we see no one discussing these comments from a 1985 general audience that represents his robust teaching on nature:

“All the observations concerning the development of life lead to a similar conclusion. The evolution of living beings, of which science seeks to determine the stages and to discern the mechanism, presents an internal finality which arouses admiration. This finality which directs beings in a direction for which they are not responsible or in charge, obliges one to suppose a Mind which is its inventor, its creator.”

Christoph Schönborn, the Roman Catholic cardinal archbishop of Vienna, was the lead editor of the official 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church.
This sounds more like authenitic theistic evolution - the process of evolution is directed by a divine Mind, not mindlessness.

I would say evolution is a religion. Rather, it is a core doctrine of a quasi-religious philosophy.

You can’t prove that all life on earth evolved from microbes, but you parrot it nevertheless.
No one has claimed there is proof in the sense you mean. It there is evidence for that theory.
The Catholics Church teaches that the faithful are free to reject evolution and believe in a literal “six days” interpretation of Genesis 1. So does this mean Catholicism is bogus or only half-bogus?
What this means is that from a strictly moral perspective, one would not be damning his soul to hell if he chose to believe that Genesis is to be taken literally. That does not mean the Church is taking a position on the science.

You cannot be a human being without the soul.
I agree, but I wonder if this can be proven theologically.

As I understand it, the Church teaches that soul-less humans may have existed until God injected one of them - Adam - with a soul. I imagine this evo-inspired teaching would disintegrate if it could be proved that humans cannot exist without a soul.

Folks who have been deceived by the demonic hoax of evolution qualify as being “in need” - seriously so.
