I can say “In my opinion, when Hitler defeated Napoleon in the Russian revolution it was a good thing” and someone still better tell me I’m an idiot for it. When one opines about what is and what is not a mortal sin in contradiction to the judgement of the Church, the “I believe” part is merely a formality.
Every heretic in the history of forever said “I believe…”.
