Greetings steppenwolf1218 –
You made a very interesting comment … that expresses a major error. You wrote, refering to a definition of love, “It is not what we think love is or should be. It is what God says it is.”

All possible created beings are reflections or limited expressions of what God Is. God has given humans understanding and the power of reason. Finite Love is a reflection of God … and thus is not able to be made something other than love. Some people think the Principle of Identity says nothing. It is stated thus, “Every being is what it is … and not something else.”

With our power of reason we are able by examing creatures and making use of the analogy of proportionality to learn some truths about God. Of course, not comprehensive knowledge. And, of course, knowledge that demands further focusing.

This in no way is any limitation on God. God is Perfect Freedom and this is Being Itself.

God is “not able” to make God to be NOT GOD.
God is “not able” to commit sin. Etc. Etc.

Hi John,

What you are failing to understand in your reply is that what you are describing are the values of love as we are able to understand them. Further what you’re stating is merely our constant quest to perfect ourselves in the image of God in which we were created. This is a twist merely on the subject of the wisdom books of the OT where pure Justice, that is God’s Justice, is the raising of Creation to the level to which He had intended it to be from the moment He created it.

As God is constant, so are His Love and Justice. Our definitions of such change as we change. So yes, Love is as God is. It is that in which we seek to attain.
Take care
Dennis
