Is heaven too good to be true?

It seems to me that if you could find anything to complain about it wouldn’t be heaven. 😛

I used to worry about this also… if everyone I love and care for does not make it to Heaven, then how can I be happy and satisfied in Heaven without them… BUT then I’ve read that Our Lady once said that some folks end up going to Hell instead of Purgatory simply because there was no one praying for them…

To me that means we need to keep those we care about always in our prayers. So at least if our friends can not make it to Heaven directly, they can get to Purgatory and make it there eventually.

Although I’ve met some pretty rotten folks, I can’t remember anyone that I would think deserved to go down below. I’m sure such folks exists and I hope I never come across any of them.
Watch the news & you will see plenty that you won’t want to be with in heaven!

If your father missed Mass one Sunday & died, it would be a shame to never see him in heaven. 🤷

In a sense, I feel that even the rotten ones should be in heaven. Perhaps something went terrible in their lives and formed them in such a way that made them evil.

I think of the many gang bangers who have lived in very dismal family situations for example; prostitute for a mother, seeing jons come and go all the time, absent father or abusive father, drugs, poverty, sexual abuse, suffering. Of course theyll grow up horrible who wouldnt in that situation, but is it really their fault when those are just the awful cards theyve been dealt? Its a shame to have to suffer greatly on earth and then have to suffer greatly in eternity. So sad.

Well, I hope you make friends with Hitler, Bin Laden, Oswald etc. They should have some interesting stories to tell you.

The problem with that is that many are raised in equally crummy situations yet do NOT grow up to hurt or victimize others. We cannot blame everything on our raising. We are not plants or farm animals, we are human beings.

That said, I believe very few in fact go to Hell; but those who victimize others will, if justice has any meaning whatsoever, in all likelihood have an impressive Purgatory to work off.

That is true, but then again everyone is different. Not all people are equally as strong or have windows of opportunities that open their eyes to a better life.

Does anyone know what its like to be any of those people? Sure they did some horrifically evil things, but how much of their attitudes were influenced by upbringing and indoctrination? I have no clue, and supposedly we are not to judge others, only God.

The world has already judged them and they are enjoying their eternal reward.

Fortunately, the world doesn’t get a vote in our eternal reward.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say those people might be in heaven. But I wouldn’t be so presumptuous as to say they’re definitely in hell. It’s not for us to say. Thank God.

It’s not for us to say…but we can make an ‘educated guess.’ 😉

Some people may feel that God’s allowing the wicked and the unrepentant people forever residence in hell is both unfair and unjust; but since the people who reside there are volunteers, God truly is being quite fair and just. Actually, in the long run, God is doing them a favor, for if they, the wicked and the unrepentant people, did not like spending their brief life here on earth with God, they surely wouldn’t like spending their eternity with Him.

“I willingly believe that the damned are, in one sense, successful, rebels to the end,” C.S. Lewis.

Well, in eternity the options are binary; if one is not certainly in Hell, then a fortiori they might be in Heaven.

This is where non-Catholics have an irreducible disadvantage, as only a Purgatory can provide for ultimate justice.

This goes back to Tonyrey. As I see things, there are two possibilities for mortals…a continuation of consciousness ( a very hard thing to envision), or…we go out like a light bulb. Neither possibility holds any fear for me.

It isn’t a question of fear but faith. Everyone has faith in something even if it’s only fate. Yet if we all exist for no reason how could we ever become aware of the fact? It takes reason to be unreasonable! Only lunatics live as there is no reason for living - which is the case if we go out like a light bulb… To reject reason is intellectual suicide.

It is true: God is in charge. Trust in Him. Hitler may have been mad. We cant judge anyone.

And its true: even the best life in this world will end: what does that telll u? It is only a glimpse: & your heart will lead u to the truth, to ur Beloved, present before all ages… Only the present is true.
