Women always have the right to not bring a child into this world, that choice begins before she decides to have sex.
Indeed.
The man has a decision, the decision is made when they have sex. Why should a woman have special rights to get a choice when their male counterparts do not?

A man has every right to say no also before sex however that right is lost once a pregnancy occurs. So as far as rights are concerned women tend to have more than men.

Voting Republican is can be questionable.
Voting Democrat is always a vote for abortion.

I’m voting Republican.

Good points.I would still say they are
progressive in their push to reinvent the social norms in regards to gender fluidity, homosexual marriage and all manner of distortions. Regressive is spot on re their drive to take up backwards economically .

I’m voting Republican.
Voting Republican is a vote for putting children in cages, bringing back torture, cutting taxes for the rich and supporting white nationalism.
Voting Democrat is a vote for abortion.

Not an easy choice to make but the scales are beginning to tip over for many Catholics.

Voting Republican is a vote for putting children in cages, bringing back torture, ……. and supporting white nationalism.
Could you provide proof of these? Not pictures or rhetoric from liberal news media like CNN or NBC, Washington Post or NYT. But proof that Republicans put children in cages, brought back torture, and supports white nationalism.

If what you said was true. I’d gladly trade cages, torcher, and tax cuts to the rich to save children’s lives.

Abortion has killed more colored people than white nationalism. Your comparrison is contradictory.

For White nationalist rhetoric and policies feel free to take a look here https://www.stanfordlawreview.org/online/white-nationalism-as-immigration-policy/

Not proof. It’s a left wing liberal opinion piece based on non factual information.
Again not proof. Left wing liberal biased media reporting the story that fits the liberal narrative not a reporting of the facts.

How many babies may be put in a cage to save other babies from abortion?

We cannot due evil in order that something good comes from it.

I don’t think the Dutch represent their people better than the US. Do they have a workable system? Sure. So does Russia.
The Dutch are a different people from the Danish!
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
And I think their systems are different.
There are three different Christian parties (Christian Democratic Appeal, Christian Union and Reformed Political Party) with House of Representative seats in the Netherlands.

Actually it is marginally worse. Imagine a candidate or government with only a 20 percent mandate to rule!
That’s possible under first past the post. But with proportional representation, the two big parties get around 20% each and then they have to get support from the smaller parties to reach 50 plus 1. There’s of course drawbacks but I think I prefer voting for someone I actually like instead of a lesser evil.

No, but when figuring out who to vote for, it’s a candidate’s stance on abortion that sways me more than anything else.

Upon scanning the postings in this thread it seems that the vast majority of them are people giving the reasons why they personally feel compelled to vote one way or another. But the question of the OP didn’t ask that. As to the question of whether it is a grave sin (or indeed any sin at all) to vote for a Democrat, it depends on the reasons for voting for that person. If one votes for a candidate because they desire an immoral policy favored by that candidate, that is a sin because it is formal cooperation with evil. But if a person votes for a candidate and does not desire that policy, but for some other reason, that can be informal mediate remote cooperation with evil, which can be allowed when there is a proportionately serious reason to do so. This chart may help.

This is nothing new. It is a long-standing principle in Catholic thought that goes back at least as far as Thomas Aquinas. It is sometimes called the principle of double effect.

But then some argue that there is no proportionate serious reason for voting for a candidate who supports abortion. What does the Church say (or not say) regarding this?

I’m not a moral theologian but let’s look at this logically.

Abortion is murder and breaks the 6th commandment. This is we know.

Putting a child in a cage and starving it to death is again breaking the 6th commandment high is evil.

Putting a child in detention could be considered a cage.

Putting a baby in a crib could be considered a cage

Putting a child in jail could be considered a cage.

Are we taking care of these caged children? Do they get food and water?

I’d rather my toddler get ripped from my arms and put in prison then know his skull is going to get crushed and his body cut up and sold off as spare parts for science.

But then some argue that there is no proportionate serious reason for voting for a candidate who supports abortion. What does the Church say (or not say) regarding this?
The Church is silent on that specific question. It is rightly left to the prudential judgement of the faithful.

Well it depends on the province. Health care is a provincial matter. In BC we pay premiums, but they are modest as most of the costs are covered by taxes.
