Ad hominem attacks are usually the sign of a person who has no other ammunition.I guess love your neighbour doesn’t apply to you eh, you are special.

Dear Advocatus Fidei,Well Bob I try not to look, call me old fashioned but I still believe in practising a thing called custody of the eyes.
No. What you have done is strongly imply that I want to dress like a stripper and that another poster wants to show off her new, more attractive body and is a liar. You’re not making general statements about sinning; you have directly insulted two people. All I have said that is a sin (and by extension anyone who does it is sinning) I have never once made mention of the gravity of the sin. Would you please now stop badmouthing me. I am just trying to hold the position that immodest dress is sinful.
But not alwaysAd hominem attacks are usually the sign of a person who has no other ammunition.
Actually she seems to be very caring of people in this thread, at least that’s the way I’ve read her comments. But not always
My problem is with the expression of your uncaring attitude towards other people there is no other way of answering that than making a personal comment.
Yes its very caring to say you are going to dress any way you please and to hell with any man who falls into lust because of that and that you couldn’t care less about the fate of other peoples souls, a very caring Christian attitude indeed, God will be so proud.Actually she seems to be very caring of people in this thread, at least that’s the way I’ve read her comments.
Sorry that’s all you heard in all her various comments. There was so much more to her posts.Yes its very caring to say you are going to dress any way you please and to hell with any man who falls into lust because of that and that you couldn’t care less about the fate of other peoples souls, a very caring Christian attitude indeed, God will be so proud.
You assume incorrectly about all that I have read.Sorry that’s all you heard in all her various comments. There was so much more to her posts.
the only other thing was “I am gonna do what I want, to heck with everyone else! No body can tell me what is right or wrong!”Sorry that’s all you heard in all her various comments. There was so much more to her posts.
I’m not talking about specifically about African cultures. Even though there are many other things that affect people’s moral behavior, there seems to be evidence that what I said above is correct. Here’s some scholarly research from major journals (sorry, you probably won’t be able to access all the full articles):BobObob;6752116:
That is total nonsense, you must be laughing as you say that there is no way you can be saying that with a straight face surely. It seems that people who grow up in cultures where there is an unhealthy view of the human body and the view that the human body can never be exposed more often become perverts.
Funny. Cultures with more puritanical view regarding dress seem to have more problems with lust and porn, not less.
The previously mentioned Africans who wear hardly any clothing often don’t eevn pretend to practice monogamy…
You can say that again.the only other thing was “I am gonna do what I want, to heck with everyone else! No body can tell me what is right or wrong!”
Oh here we go again! Not only are you being crude and disrespectful to everyone on here that disagrees with your comments, now you’ve taken to blaming women because men “can’t control their urges”! When do we start blaming the bakery owner because someone can’t control their eating and now they have fallen into gluttony?Yes its very caring to say you are going to dress any way you please and to hell with any man who falls into lust because of that and that you couldn’t care less about the fate of other peoples souls, a very caring Christian attitude indeed, God will be so proud.
It’s not that anyone is blaming women for those men who cannot control their urges, but rather that we are not islands unto ourselves but have a responsibility to create and cultivate a higher and more moral Christian culture, for our own edification as well as that of our fellow man.Oh here we go again! Even when that research is biased and flawed, I think not. It is a mistake to trust secular researchers they have always in my experience hidden agendas and are not to be trusted.I’m not talking about specifically about African cultures. It’s best to do research rather than just go with one’s gut.
I take you have also been dispensed from the command to love your neighbour have you?Oh here we go again! I am asking you as a Christian to please stop with the ad hominem attacks. Please.I take you have also been dispensed from the command to love your neighbour have you?
I have an uncaring attitude towards other people? I am a sinner and probably the least of God’s human creations, but one thing I will not accept is someone telling me I have an uncaring attitude towards other people. I care deeply about every single person in the world, as we are all loved children of a loving God and we all have precious souls. Even me.But not always
My problem is with the expression of your uncaring attitude towards other people there is no other way of answering that than making a personal comment, you are not presenting yourself in a good light saying that you do not care at all if you are a source of sin for others and I feel I must warn you that attitude will not protect you as we are considered guilty of another persons sins if we knowingly cause of them.
But nobody in this thread is saying it’s appropriate to run around with a tiny bikini on the beach or anywhere else! It’s not that anyone is blaming women for those men who cannot control their urges, but rather that we are not islands unto ourselves but have a responsibility to create and cultivate a higher and more moral Christian culture, for our own edification as well as that of our fellow man.
The men who lust after scantily-clad women bear the biggest sin, but women who are irresponsible and immodest are to blame for helping to set the stage. It’s like a child who uses foul language is responsible for setting a bad example to his playmates - sure, the children who imitate his bad behavior are to blame for their lack of self-control, but the child who started the ball rolling doesn’t get off scot-free, either.
Sure, we’re desensitized enough that most of us guys look at a girl in a skimpy little bikini and don’t bat an eyelash, and as a result most of us don’t immediately lust after every bikini-clad girl we see. But is that the right way to approach human dignity, as well as the issue of modesty? Does it do justice to the dignity of the human person to turn women from ladies who deserve respect into objects to leer at and lust after?
Wearing a little bikini to a small, private gathering of your girlfriends is one thing. Flaunting it around in public, not caring what effect you may have in the so doing, and refusing to accept the slightest responsibility for all possible outcomes is another.
If we can’t be trusted with a little matter such as this, how will we be trusted in greater matters? There’s no sticking our heads in the sand and saying “it’s not my problem”.
If you care about them you will not allow yourself to become a source of temptation to them by dressing immodestly just to please yourself.I have an uncaring attitude towards other people? I am a sinner and probably the least of God’s human creations, but one thing I will not accept is someone telling me I have an uncaring attitude towards other people. I care deeply about every single person in the world, as we are all loved children of a loving God and we all have precious souls. Even me.
Are you telling me now that God is going to punish me for causing someone else’s sins? Your whole post is one sentence, so it’s hard to tell.
With all respect and humility, I’m asking if you really have problems with lustful thoughts when you see a woman in a bikini. I’m not referring to the thong ones or the teensy tiny ones. I mean a bikini that covers up the rear and a top that uh, completely covers the uh, chest area.
I never received a response. Finally I just said forget it.Is it really a problem? I don’t know! Please help me out here.
