Is it discriminatory that Airlines only allow pretty flight attendants?

In all honesty, makeup can only “help” those who have decent facial structure.
That is why makeup made a difference to the women in the photos that you posted.
If though,a woman’s face sags due to aging or just prematurely,or if they never had decent facial structure to begin with, even many layers of makeup won’t make much difference (eg:Rosie Odonell,Whoopi Goldberg,Miami Bobeck).

Even when they (Rosie etc) spend much time making an effort with makeup do you honestly feel it makes them look at the “level” of the air hostess photo?

The difference with intelligent is that it may be required for that job.
Beauty may be required for a modelling job,but it’s debatable whether is required to serve people on an aeroplane.
Also, unless someone has a severe learning disability,an “average intelligence person” can theoretically put in much times and effort/years and become more intelligent and then feel proud of their achievement.
I guess an unattractive woman (who makeup doesn’t help much) can make the same “bettering achievement” with plastic surgery but this is very expensive.

I guess it is little wonder that the cosmetic surgery industry is thriving more and more each year considering so much emphasis is placed on looks, even in employment.

That is true about make-up. It helps enhance or cover a bit,but that is it.
International flights, longer ones, tend to have more experienced staff,or older crew among them.
I appreciate the patience and good disposition.
Personally,I have no issues when flying, but many people do. And a good flight attendant helps.
As for discrimination, I have seen basically average people lately.

Sounds like an interesting read.

I don’t think it can ever be the case that people will be equal in beauty or athletic ability etc but,as a society, wouldn’t it be a good thing if we didn’t give so much value to these things?

Also, some athletes are just extremely naturally blessed, but many other athletes have to work super hard to be able to compete against them.
Unlike athletics which involves much hard work and muscle strengthening, there are no muscle exercises that can make a woman more beautiful-only makeup and surgery.
If people want to value beauty in the same way as athleticism, then shouldn’t the stigma that some people place around plastic surgery at least be removed?

If you look carefully, you’ll also see a slightly different camera angle and a shift in lighting as well. Not saying that the makeup didn’t make a difference, but there’s other stuff going on there as well.

Most people could benefit from the expertise of a professional makeup artist and a good photographer.

I find those scary, not incredible.
The second woman literally had putty used to fill the crack in her forehead, but they forgot to trim it near her eyebrows…

Agree, my point is that there can be cosmetics to disguise sagging, aging skin (hello, cosmetic tape lift). @rozellelily might re-think the idea that the knife is the only way to deal with less than perfect facial structures.

So…many…comments. 😄😄😄😄😄

I don’t think having a pretty face is a main criteria for employing flight attendants. Usually they choose someone who is tall, at least 172 (to help people reach the overhead compartment) and skinny (to not block up the aisle) which is fair enough.

Simply being tall and slim makes them seem more attractive, since that is the beauty standard in most places. Even if their face is average, wearing makeup makes up for that.

Thankyou for the link.
I agree with everything that @Pup7 said.

In addition, its nice to see some makeup before and afters of women who weren’t naturally very pretty to begin with or who are older.
I don’t usually go for makeup Insta/blogs etc but I have decided to “follow” this guy (from your link) because in my eyes he’s a legend for helping/using older women instead of being like every other makeup artist and just focusing on pretty girls in 20’s.

Unfortunately though, the cruel reality of the world is that these women even when madeup would probably still never be able to get jobs like flight attendants because there will always be uncharitable people like Theos comment who say “scary and too caked on”.
So with makeup, they are called “scary”,without they are called “ugly”…
Harsh world☹️

I see your point but at the same time, tbh, and sorry to sound negative,I don’t think non surgical methods are very effective.
The makeup covers sagging as long as the women remain at the same angle and use good lighting in the photos, but in real life the sagging will still be visible.
Cosmetic tape lift sounds innovative but I can’t imagine this would be comfortable wearing day after day?
I can understand why a lot of women choose the surgery route.

Generally, aren’t women under too much pressure to be attractive?
Whether it’s for certain jobs,or on Instagram,or the girl/s who is bullied at school for her features etc…

Everywhere, young girls (and women) are given the message that they are worth more if they are pretty or that they will have greater advantage.
Little wonder why cosmetics and cosmetic surgery industry is always growing stronger.

It is so strong in our society.
Is this just nature, and the way it will always be for women,or can we do something to counter this?

Women are always going to be reduced to how they look, imo. I think we’re too far gone.

Beauty is important and while we ignore it and pretend that inner beauty is where it’s at, we are still constantly influenced by it. So yeah, I can see the beauty industry being as prevalent as it is now. It would change (like how darker skin tones are being celebrated more now), but the importance of being attractive would still be there.
