Is it good to hate this life?

there are two different perspectives to be considered here that will probably clarify both sides of appreciating “life” and hating “life”. Living this life for the next is correct But that doesn’t conflict with an appreciation for what God has given us through His works here. The life we are to hate is the life of sinfulness usually considered the worldly ways but it is also correct to appreciate all that we have been given through God’s creation while we are in this life. Sometimes it is hard to see both and certainly we desire to be with God above all else, but man should always respect and appreciate all of creation and there is much to appreciate and be in awe over while in this life. Those who reside in the urban areas that see only concrete and glass need to take the time to stop and experience what man cannot create. I know that is not easy either but it is worth learning how to do. It’s a matter of rearranging the priorities many of us were trained to follow to include awareness of God’s creation. Just as we should hate the sin but love the sinner, so too should we hate the sinful life but appreciate the life God gives us within His creation.

What about the lies and deceit of Satan who is always at work to corrupt this life?

We live in world of good and evil! No matter how much good one is able to extract, and it is good to extract the good, we need to remember this world is still plagued by continual evil. We ought to hate Satan continually!

Absolutely. It is a matter of separating the evil of man with the creations of God. But once a person is able to distinguish the vast difference between the two and see the characteristics in each unique form of life you can give attention to, it’s an entirely new outlook on all God has created. What a Wonderful and awesome Creator we have.
 
If you read all of my posts from the beginning you will undeniably have to acknowledge that I have *no problem *whatsoever acknowledging the good in this life. There is plenty, plenty of good in my life and I am so grateful to God for it. However, just as the priest at todays Mass said: “Our reward comes in the next life,” anyone who fails to acknowlege this is missing the point of all that I have been saying throughout my posts. (Sure we still get rewarded somewhat in this life, but it is nothing compared to what the faithful receive in heaven.) My life I’m sure is a lot better than many people: I have true joy and all that I need from my heavenly Father for a good life. However, this temporal life is nothing, NOTHING to me compared to my life eternal in God. If God made me choose today to fight against a giant at the risk of losing my life - I would risk losing my life. Compared to the next life, this life is nothing, absolutely nothing to me.

Scott Hahn said that Adam was afraid to fight the devil and die (in body) so put up no fight against Satan when Satan was tempting Eve and himself. I, seeing the big mistake of Adam and knowing what Christ has said in the Gospels, unlike Adam, I will fight against Satan or anything that threatens my life. I will not be afraid to lose this life like Adam, but will fight and keep my life unto life eternal…like Jesus was talking about when he was referring to** hating this life and losing it **only to keep it unto life eternal. Hating this life means not valuing it over life eternal with God like chicken Adam did.
 
The degree to which Satan has corrupted this world, that is how much this world ought to be hated!

Relax Jerry, as you refer to it you are correct, but we are referring to two different things, one being this life meaning the life of sin we are to hate, and the other being the creations of God that we are to be “care takers” of and appreciate as God found them to be good, very good, and blessed them. We certainly are not to love this life of sinfulness, but we are to appreciate just as God did, His creations. So in your reference you are right and amused at the same time. 🙂

In this life I cannot help but feel great joy and great sorrow. The joy comes from the grace and blessings of God and the sorrow comes from the misery and corruption of Satan.

I’m not arguing with you. If you want to hate this life that is your choice.
 
“If any one comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, He can not be my own disciple” (Lk 14:26).

Scott Hahn in his book First Comes Love and a priest who gave a homily a couple years back got into what was meant by “hating” our blood relatives. Blood is not to be valued the same as our sonship to God and universal brotherhood with all the world in Christ. I imagine our life, too, is not to be valued the same as our life in God in this universal brotherhood in Christ.
