i don’t see anything tensed about my previous post for me to relax about, as for hating and loving this life, i understand what i am to love and hate and soon you all will reallize how loving and hateful i amRelax Jerry, as you refer to it you are correct, but we are referring to two different things, one being this life meaning the life of sin we are to hate, and the other being the creations of God that we are to be “care takers” of and appreciate as God found them to be good, very good, and blessed them. We certainly are not to love this life of sinfulness, but we are to appreciate just as God did, His creations. So in your reference you are right and amused at the same time.

I’m like you, Robert…I don’t like my earthly life very much, either!
I always think of that quote of St. Therese [a line from a poem that her father knew] :
"The world’s thy ship and not thy home’. That has stuck with me ever since I first read her Autobiography back in 1970.
I don’t want to live a long life on this dreary and sad earth-I want to go Home to heaven!

Thanks! I find that the more detached I am from this world the closer I’m able to walk with Christ. God willing, I would hope to experience Heaven sooner than later!

You better know which road you are on before you start thinking about the after life. Just a thought. The passage you quoted does not mean you hate this life; it means you hate your “old nature”; so put on the “new man” and clothe yourself with Christ Jesus.

To walk with Christ requires sacrifice in this life. Walking with Christ entails a great love over and above what one can ever expect to extract from this miserable and corrupt life.
Please quote the words of Christ and tell me where he says we are to follow him by loving this life?

Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished
children of Eve, to thee do we send
up our sighs, mourning and weeping

I think the problem here is in the misunderstanding of words.
I too hate this life because of the sin that is all around me and within me, but when I say I hate this life that does not mean that I am not joyful. I am very joyful, as a matter of fact, ever since I started going back to church again, praying more, studying more, learning more and changing, I have been the most joyful I have ever been in my life. I also used to suffer from depression and take medication.
We are called to Love God’s creations, indeed it is said that the two greatest commandments which encompass all of the commandments is first Love God, and second Love thy neighbor. However, loving your neighbor and hating this world are not opposites. We as people have within us souls which are not of this world, they are of God and we should love each other, help each other and be good stewards to God’s creation because it is pleasing to God.
That does not mean we should love being here on Earth. The opposite to this is in not fulfilling our responsibilities on Earth because of a rushed feeling of wanting to be with God. It is for God alone to determine when we will be with him and as such, we should make effort to do God’s will while alive. It is my greatest desire to be with God in heaven but as St. Paul said “Work out your salvation with fear and trembling” Only God knows who will be with him in heaven so make sure to do his will here on Earth and to have faith and Love for his creations and hope that God will show mercy on your soul.

Again, nobody disagrees that it’s good to feel joy from the graces and blessings from God; the issue is hating all the sin and corruption that result from the lies and deceit of Satan. Let me quote again:
