Is it irreverent to serve the Mass in my underwear?

I would need lots of prayer support (even though I’m not a clergyman) if I even had to live in a region that had that sort of daytime heat.:eek::eek:

I was wondering about people in the Middle East I see pictures of wearing the typical Middle Eastern garb where you KNOW it is super hot!

Now imagine wearing slacks and the clarical shirt underneath the alb, stole, and chausble. Our church offers 7 Sunday Masses and these are attended by about 800 people each. The heat gets so intense we don’t do incense during the summer because it would make things very uncomfortable.

Since you’re not a member of the clergy, you also have the option of not wearing lots of black during hot summers. =/ It can get over 100 here during the summer, but St. John Vianney is the patron saint for my local parish. I’m sure he’ll pray with me to give the priests here strength to endure the summer heat.

Where ever you are, I will pray too, and offer up my suffering between June and September for the comfort of those priests who minister in hot climates. (I live in Northern Illinois where it may not get real hot but it gets humid along with whatever heat we do get)😦

I’m in California. It’s already in the 80s almost daily here and will probably stay that was through to the first half of October.

Are you anywhere near LA? I understand from Weather Channel LA is battling wild fires along with hot, dry weather.:eek:

Nope. I’m at the north end of the state in the vicinity of Sacramento, which is far enough inland to get worse summer heat than the coastal areas, but is also far enough away from all the major earthquake fault lines that if if I feel an earthquake, it will be check the news to see if San Francisco [which is also where the National Shrine to St. Francis of Assisi is] was leveled to the ground or not…

In short, I don’t have to pray for the local priests to not be murdered by earthquakes but do have cause to feel concerned about them all getting heatstroke during the summer.

I was wondering about people in the Middle East where you see them wearing turbans and long robe-like garments, women dressed in black with veils over their faces. How can they stand the intense heat of that part of the world and dress like they do? These people would be Muslims I believe. Still I would think it awfully uncomfortable to dress like that.🤷
 
It’s fairly common to go what some call “Roman Style”, which means just wearing a shirt and shorts under your cassock. The key is to wear long black socks (at least calf height, knee hight may be even better). As long as fabric your soutane’s made of is heavy enough, no one will know.

visitors to this thread hoping someone says something ridiculous like…um…
do you think it was improper that at 3 months old, my mom had me in no underwear ?
