Lisa:

If you have no sins you can’t go to confession. Of course how many people can say, “Oh, I’d really like to go to confession, but I haven’t committed any sins in the last week.”

People - MYSELF included - neglect the sacrament of confession because it is never or very seldem mentioned from the pulpit, just as sin is never or very seldem mentioned. We as a culture (U.S. Catholics) have lost our sense of sin and guilt and therefore we have lost our sensible need for absolution, growth in holiness, and reconciliation with God and man.
i think this is what the OP was getting at…it should be addressed by the pulpit…i think maybe the pulpit tries to be PC,
(maybe afraid to offend the “hand that feeds”) the cafeteria IS closed, and I hope the Holy Father mentions that next week.

Do you not feel that some weeks you have nothing in particular weighing on you? Certain sins, to my mind, wear me down more than others. Are not some of the lesser ones taken care of at the beginning of Mass when we ask for forgiveness?

Bingo…venial sins are handled at the beginning of Mass.

Receiving while in a state of MORTAL sin is the biggie.

👍

anyone who says “Oh, I don’t need to go to confession, I haven’t committed any mortal sins” does not understand the beauty and the efficacy of the Sacrament
I suppose it depends on how you define “need” 🤷

I thought you were wanting a list of why people weren’t in the confession line last Saturday. Your posts mix me up I think.😊
