Is it OK to use "psychics" in wartime?

Just to clarify. I think we’re not talking of those “psychics” who contact the dead or predict the future or something like that. I think the original poster is referring to people with special abilities who can perceive beyond the normal 5 senses (e.g. ESP), like determining the position of a sniper. I would seem plausible that these people may actually have the ability to use more of their brains than the average human. Who knows? We use only a fraction of our brains. It’s quite possible that our brains may have a built-in radio/antenna system that can communicate with other brains, except we’ve generally not figured out how to use it.

In any case, I think the psychics here are more in the realm of science rather than the supernatural.
I dunno, porthos. Because the house in which I grew up was haunted, I came to be very interested in the occult, and researched it exhaustively. As far as I can see, every teeny tiny bit of successful ESP results from contact with evil spirits. What looks like a society-benefitting use of ESP is actually “familiarization” – use of or communication with evil spirits energizes them, and gives them a stronger foothold in our realm, and so they frequently engage in *beneficial * initial contacts which later deteriorate into evil, vile, soul-seizing demonic mischief.

Stay far, far away no matter what, no mattrer what, no matter what, and pray to God, instead.

Ok, forget that I said “psychics”. I didn’t intend to mean people who abuse their ways for fame and money. But what if I had a dream? I see this rock formation, and soldiers hiding inside. Would I be wrong to tell someone about it? How do we know if it’s from God or the devil?

Well, let’s assume that it’s from the Devil.

Does that change your question? God still knows that He has created a world in which people get secret info from the Devil.

I think that there is a qualitative difference between the way God speaks to us and the way the Devil mimics God speaking to us.

When God does it, it’s a “good idea” that occurs to us.

When the Devil does it, the information arrives in some way other than a “good idea.”

Let us say that while you and your buddies are creeping toward a rock, an actual voice heard inside the head says, “Air Force Mama, over there, in those rocks, is a very powerful radio controlled bomb!”

Should you keep quiet and not tell your buddies?

No, probably you are morally bound to use the information like an idea that has occurred to you, by saying, “Guys, stay away from those rocks! They look like a great place for some kind of nasty surprise for us.”

And then pray for the voice to be supplanted by inspiration from God.

So you are saying the difference is all in how the “receiver” communicates the “idea”?

An interesting point Porthos11. I come form many years of karate training and am familiar with what the Japanese call “saki” ( 😃 No not Sake, the drink. Duh!) which means the “the force of intention” or “the killer’s intention”, a sharpening of the senses that allows a fighter to sort of intuitively become aware of when an eemy is focused upon him and from what direction. Stephen K. Hayes of the Togakure Ryu ninjas writes about it in his books and even shows basically how to train it. It does work. I know from personal experience. Perhaps such training would assist our guys, but this is martial science, not psychic ability.

You missed Part 2 of my sentence. IF the person is “hearing voices” or receiver other non-normal communication from the “astral plain,” I personally believe that that person has “a demon on their shoulder,” even if the messages seem beneficial. So, the person should pray to God for the seemingly-beneficial communications to stop.

The classic shape of demonic communications is seemingly good and beneficial at first, then vile.

Read the Adam and Eve story. As Eve is looking at that delicious fruit, she’s got all kinds of fine ideation in her head, recommending it.

Many “seers” think so highly of their “gift.” “Wow! I’ve been gifted with *special powers! *I’m really something! But, I’ll only use my gift for *truth, justice and the American Way! *I’m Super-Seer!

Few of them try to get rid of their “gift.” When they do, they’ll discover that their’s a coil around their neck. “It” doesn’t want to leave.

Drat! When I first read the title of this thread I thought it said “physics” not “psychics.” I was all pumped for a spirited discussion of nuclear weapons. Alas.

A true story: I wasn’t a very moral Catholic when I was younger. In my opinion, I was living in a damned state, eligible for Hell.

At one point, in grad school, one of my courses was taught by a drop-dead gorgeous girl. Upon inquiry I found out that she was married. I thought, “Should I ‘hit on’ her?”

As I thought about her and sexually coveted her more and more, one day I was alone in my room, studying for final exams. I had the radio on, as background sound while I studied, to keep me company.

A talk radio program came on. Famed psychic Valerie Morrison was being interviewed, live. I wondered, “Could she tell me if I’m going to have good luck with that girl teaching my class?”

Seconds after I merely thought that, I heard Valerie Morrison on the radio say to her interviewer, “Wait a second. Do you mind if I interrupt you just for a moment? Will that guy sitting in his room thinking about that pretty teacher please just ask her out? He’ll have great luck with her!”

I was completely astonished. A coincidence, or was my mind read? I think that my mind was being read by the demonic realm, and it was then “whispering” in Ms. Morrison’s “ear.”

I never committed adultery with the teacher. I did talk to her, but she rushed to the subject of cheating on her husband so quickly that I felt guilty, and she scared me off. Nonetheless, I am not proud of that memory. Why was I even considering that girl, or coveting her? I was a pig.

Footnote: About a year later, the girl was dragged under a subway platform, brained with a hunk of concrete, and raped. We never know when “our number is up,” do we? (If anyone here happens to recognize the subway incident, please do not post the girl’s name. Have the decency to leave her family alone.)

Bottom line: Stay away from the occult. It’s real. And it will gobble you up.

A book we’d be ill-advised to read. Stories like this, although harmless in their intent, are dangerous. They lure us by their sensationalism. “Wow,” we say. “That’s scary.” We love hearing scary stories of the unexplained, but it’s not for us to know. It’s just another avenue for evil to worm its way into our souls. When I hear about psychics and such, I think, “I don’t know if this is real, if it’s a neutral ability, a blessing, or a curse, but I do know that where anything of the spiritual realm is concerned, I will simply trust in God to handle it,” and that’s that. Giving attention to these tales only gives more weight and credibility to the underlying forces at work in them.

I don’t mean to criticize you, BibleReader. I’m sure it was a harrowing experience. I’m sure your guardian angel was warring for you throughout, and that your Heavenly Mother was interceding on your behalf. Thank you for your attempt to emphasize the seriousness of dabbling in such things and their inherent dangers.

If my guardian angel was watching over me, MamaGeek, I didn’t deserve it.

Mamageek,I guess I wasn’t clear. I said a book COULD be written not necessarily SHOULD.

I do agree with about BibleReader…👍

Since that supernatural knowledge cannot come from God, it comes from the devil. Either way, are these people we want to give government money and authority to?.
You may perhaps wish to reconsider that statement as it takes out every great visionary saint, prophetic voice and very loyal practicing Catholics who have this gift. Some are given gifts from God for a purpose. That does not mean however, that 90% of the field aren’t charlatans or have other problems. It’s a rare gift, but like all other gifts God offers, for a purpose.

But that’s the nature of divine mercy. None of us deserve it.

Don’t you see? The psychic told you what you needed to hear. You did NOT commit adultery with her because you had the courage to talk to her and realized, because of her reply, that you were no longer interested in her. After that you not only did not covet her, you didn’t even lust after her. God works in mysterious ways. He opened up your heart enough for you to see the error of your ways. What a turning point in your life, God’s work through this psychic helped you choose the right path.

I agree that its dangerous to listen to psychics who try to predict the future, but there is also the fact that God chooses different ways, as well as different people, to speak, or influence us.

Are you kidding me? A psychic encourages him to commit adultery, and you think that was the working of God? I can’t recall any other instance of spin so outrageous.

Listen, I’m not giving any credit to the “psychic”. God also chose the words to come from her to him. And the same time God also helped Biblereader to open his heart to the Word. And he heard it didn’t he?

I’ll take BibleReader’s word for it that the “psychic” was talking to him, which she may very well have not been.

Not when you get instant gratification or when some good comes out of it, but when the overall result is good (like a lost-one that finds the path), can’t you truly say that it was with God’s help?

But what about NOT getting readings regarding the future… just finding out questions about now - where people are hiding, where are there weapons being made, etc?? Couldn’t we use them more as “tips” than a demonic prophecy?

Yes Air Force Mama, I say yes. To find out about where a danger is located is useful and correct. Some posters are adamant about any use of certain aids from ESP, I say they are not knowdgeable. If I am there on the field of action , I want all the help I can get!

What good came out of him approaching his married teacher to solicit a relationship? He tempted her to sin, because by “coming on too strong” she was obviously indulging in lust. If he hadn’t ever spoken to her, they both would have been better off. God does not tempt. Jesus Himself said to pray to the Father “lead us NOT into temptation.”
