Is it okay for Catholics to own firearms so they can protect themselves and their loved ones?

Aren’t you risking your life more by shooting? Wouldn’t it be more dangerous for your family to have a shoot out? Especially if there is more than one perpetrator?
Just how do you propose to evacuate your entire family with guns pointed at you? Hiding in the corners doesn’t always work either.

Think of it this way: if someone invades your home with guns and you’re not armed, you are effectively dead and it will only be by a miracle of God that you live through the experience.

That’s the incremental effort being made in California. Starting July 1st buying ammo requires a background check, just like buying a firearm. Okay, that’s not banning ammo, but it’s encouraging small shops and even big retailers like Walmart to drop ammo sales. And people in Sacramento can’t just drive to Cabela’s anymore, because it’s already illegal to buy ammo out of state and bring it back. There are rumors that California DOJ cruises Cabela’s parking lot looking for cars with CA plates for CHP to pull over at the checkpoint.

I’ve watched the actual video of this incident (not included in link). A probably 100 lb woman comes out of her room, sees hooded intruders, starts blasting. The big thugs run off, though one doesn’t get far since he’s fatally wounded.

According to some, she shouldn’t be armed. These violent perps should be allowed to take what they want, maybe kick her bedroom door in, rape and murder her.

Lot of places besides Cabela’s that sell ammo. All kinds of dodges available. People who are determined to have ammo will get ammo.

See this is also one of the reasons why I think about owning a gun so I can protect myself and my family. If some armed intruders were to break into my home like that, I would not want to risk being raped or even killed by them. I also know that I cannot depend on the police either in this situation. Even if I call 911, it will the police a long time to come to my home and by the time that they have arrived, I would have been dead by now.

Yeah, and there’s no way to prove that you didn’t buy the ammo in CA. Or that you did.

They broke in with guns in hands. She fought like a tigress. Calm afterward, too.

I don’t think everyone would or could do that. I certainly wouldn’t if I had children. A single person? Well, that’s different.

Hey, it’s your choice. If someone has kids or doesn’t like having loaded guns on the ready, well, securing them is the safest option.

Or you might consider teaching your kids how to handle guns themselves.

Not much point in having guns kept for personal defense at the “unready.” 😉
But I’m not that comfortable carrying a racked Glock inside my waistband. Taurus .357 Magnum, no problem. Can’t go bang until I pull the trigger. And no safety to fumble with.

I love seeing dads and sons at the range. I have fond memories of my father teaching me to shoot his .38 single action. Maybe that’s why I love the six shooters to this day!

In San Francisco you’d have to have it securely locked, even if you live alone. Gotta protect the safety of those home invaders!

I’d rather carry a loaded firearm than leave one lying around the house.

I’d rather open carry or use a shoulder rig. If things got realily bad I’d probably integrate my holster with a plate carrier.

CA doesn’t allow open carry. NV does, though I haven’t seen anybody carrying around Tahoe or Reno. My NV non-resident permit allows me to concealed carry any caliber there. Even a derringer or a mare’s leg. The latter are a novelty, though.

That is prudent. I personally think the handgun ownership age for men should be raised to, like, 30.
