Bullfighter, I find your stance interesting.
In battle, a soldier usually calls the enemy some other name then human. I did in Vietnam. But yes, they were human, and just like us, fighting for there Commander in Chief. In all the fire-fights I was in, and the aftermath of ‘cleaning’ the site… they had pictures of their loved one’s and families in their wallets just like we did. And yes, I did feel a “conscience ping” after the battle was over, especially when you consider neither of us was on our own soil. Returning home, and trying to justify it rationally left only PTS and it became a moral issue. Yes, it was him or me, but how the heck did we both get in that situation? The homeland people looked at both of us as “invaders” and wanted neither of us there. If both parties would just go back to their own countries and leave them alone, all would be well… they just wanted to raise their rice and feed their family… why did all this have to happen… on their soil?
Are there Bigger issues at stake?
If one looks through life at what was important a year ago, is it important yet today? What was important when you were sweet sixteen? What was important when you were twenty-five? What’s important when one is forty… or fifty? And what is important when one is old and grey? And if one is Catholic, or even religious, what is important when soon they will meet their maker… and “perhaps” become a Citizen of The Kingdom?
When one considers the world as one humanity, like the Universal Catholic Church does… separate Countries become less important. Then it becomes being humane with other humans… let your love shine. The Golden Rules become lived, instead of just talked about. When all is said and done, I too am a stranger in my own country, since I am a citizen of another Kingdom, not of this world. No country in this world lives up to that Kingdom’s standard, even the USA. Sometime that may happen, but not as yet.
So, take your pick, which membership are you ‘going to die’ for? Which is even worth fighting over? This is a fickle country… laws made one day are overturned by another one in office, and maybe changed back again by another in office. Is this all ‘progressive’ and for the good (of all), or rather something else and for the good (of a few). Can all be happy with the situation’s they are in? How so, even Lucifer wasn’t happy in Heaven… is he happy anywhere?
PS: Your post-script talks of trying the Soul…
