Recently I’ve been looking at you-tube videos on lucid dreaming and came across Astral Projection.
This is of course related to the occult and new world order and for sure I will not attempt to experience it.
My question is : Is it safe to learn and research about the occult and into conspiracy theories without being in danger of getting first hand experience?

As a side-note I’m a strong catholic with good knowledge of the faith and so I know that the occult is evil and I can see examples of the occult work.

Like Protestantism if you have a strong faith, good understanding of your own, and practice, then it’s OK. When in doubt (as with all spiritual matters) talk about it with your priest/deacon. If you don’t have a priest/deacon friend, then you still have one more preparation step. In any case here are some practical caveats from a person in the same situation.

**1. Understand “being spooked”. **
Much of the stuff you will learn may creep you out. It’ll also point out many thing you didn’t realize before in your life. As such you will “spook” yourself with phenomena that didn’t and never will happen. This is similar to scrupulosity to any Catholic that had their first real taste of an Examinations of Conscious. They literally start thinking they are sinning all the time, just as you may see yourself constantly using occult principles, being demonically possessed or demonically tormented, when non of the above has occurred at all.

2. Complexity
In both fiction and real life they say magic/occultism does simplify or make things easier. It complicates it more. Currently you are in an “innocent” condition about occultism. You just know the little that cultural osmosis gives you. Occultism is a lot like Protestantism, it’s a gigantic hodgepodge of whatever the person decide to write, practice, and select. It’s a lot to filter, and some things you just might not want to know.

**3. Obligation **
Just as a doctor must help all people in need so to will you be required to assist those in these circumstances. Do you have the heart, trust, tact, and skill to do so?

4. Too Much
Occultism like the Mystery of Evil attracts two types of ilk: those fascinated and repulsed by it. Surprisingly “too much” has a Christian side of the coin. You will get a lot of flake from fellow Christians about gateways. Either They are the type to read you off Marian promises superstitiously or they are true victims of Spiritual Warfare. Most of the latter which you see around the Internet, books, and other testimonials are the extreme cases. Not only were they involved in the occult, but often substance abuse, promiscuity, and non-life affirming lifestyles. Although they have recuperated they are still severely damage and like former alcoholics can never touch the stuff again in any way, shape or form.

I wouldn’t if I were you. You open yourself up to the risk of attacks. Don’t take my word for it, though. Ask your confessor. See what he says, as he knows you the best spiritually.

Thanks for replying guys,
I will always stay true to the church.
But on the other side I want to find the truth in the world whilst being in safeguard, I can understand some people in the past have be brainwashed and open to attack, But I think I can find the balance between being safe and searching for what is real.

Even if you open the door a crack, the devil will put his foot in. Why let yourself in for a tussel with Satan? He’s powerful. He can make the whole endeavor look too enticing. Better to look somewhere else for your interests. Goed bless.

The truth in the world is that there is a lot of evil that we should do everything in our power to avoid exposing ourselves to if it isn’t necessary. We live in this world, but are not of it. Stay away from the occult. Trust me. I found a book in the library of my catholic high school called, “In Pursuit of Satan”. I signed it out and started reading it. It was about around that time that I ended up leaving the Church and started getting into the occult and sinful life.

Are you implying that Protestants are part of the occult? I really hope Im misinterpreting this.

My advice is stay away…Its seductive and dangerous…it lies…have nothing to do with it…Pray to St Michael … go to a priest and ask advice… I will pray that this notion you have passes and that you will move on from it

My opinion: you can learn, as long as you are ‘on guard’ against any temptation to try and engage in occult practices. What’s important is what’s going on in your head. At any sign of temptation, you should stop. But if you approach it as only an academic study, it should be safe.

We must avoid temptation, of course, but at the same time it can often be beneficial to know about and understand the forces that are aligned against the Christ and the Church. I have read much about Islam, atheism, secular humanism, and so-on (though not much about the occult)…not because I want to leave the Church or because I want to follow these things, but because I feel like I need to understand their beliefs and tactics so that I can better *defend *the Church.

God bless.

I don’t believe there is anything spiritually edifying in learning about the occult, so why bother?

No, I’m not implying Protestants are in the occult. A book, show, school of occultism is syncretic. Rules, methods, etc. are whatever the author or founder decided to use. This is just like how many Protestant congregations are whatever their founder decided to pick and choose from Christianity.

I just wanted to bring this question up.
If I can’t learn about the enemy and his plans how can I possibly identify the enemy?

Don’t do it.it’s a risk and your putting your soul in danger.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

**Divination and magic **

**2115 **God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others - even if this were for the sake of restoring their health - are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.

Once my friend (she’s a Hindu converting to Buddhism) read my palms for me and she bought some tarot cards and told my future with them (they weren’t proper ones, they were cartoon ones she won at hook-a-duck) and I regularly count Magpies because of the song. Are these considered occult practices?

Yes, but they’re not part of Hinduism nor Buddhism. New Ager’s tend to bring in all sorts of stuff even into Eastern religions, which were never part of them.

Stay away from that sort of stuff. Only God is in control of our destiny and we place all our trust in Him.

Thanks will do

It’s okay to research. You might want to stick with Catholic sources though, especially some books and websites are consecrated to Satan.

My personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt:

Don’t unnecessarily open yourself up to negative influences if you don’t have to do it.

It’s not worth the headaches, heartaches, and risks to your mental health/well-being.
