Is it sinful to watch this kind of TV?

this is my opinion, which was solicited, so remember that before you react. Voyeurism, that is watching others engage in sex for one’s own gratification or entertainment, used to be defined as a psychiatric disorder (as were homosexuality, sado-masochism and a host of other aberrant behaviors). Just because the definitions changed does not mean the underlying behavior is not disordered. There is something very, very wrong with a society that promotes hard and soft porn, not to mention extreme violence, as entertainment. Cooperation with that mentality is gravely wrong especially when it enables the purveyors of this stuff to claim: we’re just giving people what they want.

My mother, Methodist by upbringing, Catholic through conversion, would never watch soap operas or allow us to watch them. She told us, I would not entertain people who act this way in my home and would not approve of their actions if they did them in my home, so why would I watch them on TV?

You have a wise mother.

Life is meant to be lived. It is not intended for watching others live - and in particular - sin.

BRAVO!! As my Spanish grandmother would say (God rest her soul)… in regards to these amoral TV shows…PURO BASURA!! That means PURE TRASH.

Garbage in…garbage out…life is worth LIVING not for passively watching foolish people doing foolish things. God knows I have enough work to do on myself without focusing my free time on that frivolity!:nope:

Exactly what my mom says. I really believe it is sinful to watch trash on TV, especially to permit your children to watch it. It is like watching violence, it desensitives us. Organizations like American Decency americandecency.org/ as well as others are fighting to clean up our airwaves.

Three people were sitting in a room. The third person had an idea;

“I heard once about kissing. I would like to see it. Why don’t you two kiss.”

“But we aren’t in love,” they replied.

“So, this is just acting. It won’t be like the real thing.”

A fourth person walked in the room while they were kissing. What do you think happened? Now pay the “actors”. Film them. Put them in other situations. Is the third person worse than the fourth, or the first two? Where does acting end and reality begin? Where does voyeurism end, and entertainment begin? Why are we in this tangle?
