Is it wrong to be afraid of death?

No, no I am not…

I count myself as a transhumanist.

Personally, I thought about converting to Catholicism about two years ago, but I could never reconcile the existence of God with profound suffering. Although I can articulate my reasons, I think it is elegantly expressed in the Epicurean paradox.

The reason I ask is how do Catholics deal with the issues I am concerned with. I really do not want to die as I hope to see the world reach a state where problems such as poverty are permentantly eradicated.

The more we know of our faith, the more evidence is given to us, the more firmly we believe. Since this life is all we know, we have a fear or dread of dying. However, Christ promised the faithful eternal life. He predicted the future, which had him suffering, dying for the redemption of others, then rising to life. He then did exactly that. The more I know about God, and the more I trust Him, the less I fear death, as His promise leads to just the life you seek.

Perfection comes from no mere man, since you are as unlikely to reach it as any other who shares their nature with you. I cannot believe in equals - in peers, as it is just as likely that they may believe in me. I must believe in the superior, indeed in the Supreme. His Word is true and He is trustworthy, never failing.

Peace on your journey.

Have cryonics reached the point where they have been able resuscitate a frozen human being? Some years ago carp and goldfish if not frozen too long. Haven’t heard since it has gotten any further then the freezing and cryogenic storage of the body. While I wouldn’t say it is impossible, I couldn’t in good conscience recommend anyone trying it. Seems like it would be no more repugnant to the church than embalming or cremation unless it were done to thumb ones nose at God and the resurrection to come. Problem might be that if the idea is to freeze one while life still remains that would be considered assisted suicide.
