Then how unusual that I hadn’t noticed that before
Some men do better at that than their wives. I have a brother who loves kids and is very nurturing: much more so than me.Raising children
Sure. But I generally don’t let the one blast the other 99. There are always exceptions to something like human behavioral norms. But the norms be the norms for good reason, generally.whyeyeman:![]()

Statistics would seem to support that notion. To what extent is “masculine” violence nature or nurture though? Girls can be exceptionally cruel, but are almost universally discouraged from expressing aggression physically, which might have helped create this deceptive notion that women are inherently less violent. Why do you think it is so, then? If men are not naturally more violent?
Nature or nurture though? How many men would like to play a more intimate role in their children’s lives, but are compelled by social norms to do otherwise?Sure. Ultimately unanswerable with any real certainty, it seems. “Both” is my default.Vonsalza:![]()

I wouldn’t view traditional male roles and intimacy as mutually exclusive. How many men would like to play a more intimate role in their children’s lives, but are compelled by social norms to do otherwise?
It takes two to tango. Every guy who agreed to participate in having sex with this woman is also to blame.Females in line units also have that tendency to end up banging half the unit and causing all kinds of issues.
Testosterone makes you violent? Okay. It’s called testosterone.
You’re right. But what’s easier? Moving her or moving the 6 of them?JanSobieskiIII:![]()

Carrying someone in your body is not a guarantee of emotional intimacy, though. Fathers shouldn’t sell themselves short where that “softer” love is concerned. Now am I intimate with my kids in a different way than their mother? Yeah. But they have a connection to her I don’t have. Her heart was the soundtrack of their first 9 months of existence. I’ll never match it.
Fair enough. But the familiarity that this intimacy springs from began with their mother en utero. It didn’t begin with me until birth. It’s a “knowing” that’s more than social.Vonsalza:![]()
