Is Jesus Christ and the Roman Catholic Church the only way to salvation?

Hey Pat De, just a few things:
If answer B was always obvious, why did all (or perhaps most, if there were always few heretics) Christians believe option A for 1500 years? And then there’s a whole new conundrum when Jesus states in John 6 (KJV) which you washed over:
I can only assume you are at least 1800 plus years old and assume the following as well a) You know who all the or most of the Christians are over that period and b) you have spoken to each of them personally to examine their beliefs - You have a straw-man argument. At least I have a biblical basis on Jesus very words and in a context He used regularly; meaning using an idiom known and used by Jewish teaching authorities at the time. You bring up the “Bread of Life” sermon, which I thank you for that further strengthens my point with Jesus very words using figurative language to make a spiritual point.

Based on your erroneous logical thinking, then I wonder what you do with the following in John 10.

1 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2 "But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3 "To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 "When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 “A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, ***but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.
*** This last verse fits well with your own lack of comprehension of Jesus words at least on this particular point; can’t say anything about the rest of your understanding or lack of understanding…

Are Christians Sheep or men? Do they follow the human Jesus or the spiritual God-man Jesus? Did they eat His literal flesh or is He saying the equivalent to “deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow me”.

But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, {namely,} Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that **by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. ** This is another common idiom used; did He literally taste with His tongue death and what if it said He was made to eat death; then we would have a different problem.

**“Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.” **
Another the example and the list can go on and on; it helps in the interpretation of Scripture to compare Scripture with Scripture in order to derive the meaning of what God has said. Often you must be able to know the culture and its practices, the audience to whom one is addressing etc.
This teaching directly preceded the report that some of Jesus’ followers turned away from him. Unless readers want to isolate the very last bit of John 6, it could only be taken in that context.
Whether a or b the people that believed the literal eating of flesh, which I do not believe this is what they believe, rather that He was God as John’s Gospel continually points out from the very first chapter and verse, turned away from “unbelief”. Unbelief in what? Jesus as Savior.
I would purport a couple of things about the ongoing sacrifice of the Eucharist:
  1. Not only is it central to the faith, it is the hardest to believe. How wonderful, powerful, and bold a faith in which the centre of it is a divine mystery.
Not a word in Scripture concerning transubstantiation of bread or wine or any other object; therefore it comes from man and not God so yeah it is a mystery for some, but not from the heavens above in my opinion and experiences.
  1. Jesus is real. He may not be on Earth, but he is in Heaven as we speak. His participation (Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity) in the Eucharist is the tangible new covenant he promised God would send.
Hello, Jesus is God and God is omnipresent, but your statement should show you the flaw in your thinking between carnal reality and spiritual reality. Jesus as a man was the exact image of God, but God is spirit who took human form, but because His human body ascended doesn’t take away the fact He is God and as God He is omnipresent; just as the only way one is ever a Christian is by the indwelling of God, which is the entire Trinity You seem to have a problem separating the carnal things from the spiritual things, but you are not alone in this it takes a new birth before anything can be understood in its context, then it takes lots of diligent work in the Word and obedience to His Lordship, then watch out for blessing upon blessing and in the end eternal life and it is not dependent on a religion or a church, but a Person.
As for Paul, he too preached the Real Presence in the Eucharist.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
God is more than just a spiritual factor. When Jesus came to earth, he became a physical factor for us too. The Eucharist as instituted by Catholics is that physical factor, the promise that he’s always with us and will come back to Earth once again for all time! Glad to see you admit it was instituted by the Catholic Church-thumbs up!

I have the support of early Christian texts, fathers, the oldest Church, and the very same Bible you have. So when it comes to aspects of Truth, the favour seems to be with Catholics.

And you should know very well that sola scriptura doesn’t go down well with Catholics, early Christians, and even the Bible itself.
Based on your erroneous logical thinking, then I wonder what you do with the following in John 10…
I would continue reading well past where you’ve stopped: I would have realized that Jesus did explain his parable to the confused audience, but none of them turned in confusion the way they did when Jesus told them of his literal sacrifice they would need to continue. Rather, after the parable of the Good Shepherd, they were angry as they knew exactly what they were saying.
Did they eat His literal flesh or is He saying the equivalent to “deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow me”.
But nothing is said after Jesus was reported to have asked the disciples to pick up their crosses and follow him, like when it was reported that some of his disciples left when he asked them to eat his flesh and blood. Certainly they would not be confused simply because A) They would only ever need to pick up their cross once (he asked them to do it daily), and that’s only if B) They were going to be executed under the most humiliating of all Roman capital punishments. No one knew they could be crucified for following Jesus, that is until Jesus was crucified himself under peculiar circumstances

This is the problem, Pat De. You claim something of your own accord. So do millions of other Christians also claiming to be in line with Christ’s teachings, and yet everyone claims something a little different.

Hebrews 5:12 “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic elements of the oracles of God”

For Catholics, that’s the Magisterium, and that’s why we’re unified in all our beliefs concerning salvation.
These are the real straw man arguments. I’m well aware there are many literary devices in the Bible. But just cherry picking them and laying them out does not change the circumstances surrounding Jesus foretelling the eating of his Flesh and Blood.

If it really was unbelief that caused his disciples to walk away, what unbelief? Jesus taught something definitive, something which confused his disciples, and then it’s reported they walked out. If it wasn’t the historical order of events, then obviously the writer had something important to say. To suggest it’s simply a matter of not believing that he is the Son of God and disregarding a rather dividing teaching is effectively blocking out an entire passage preceding the reported event. That’s selective reading.
Hello, Jesus is God and God is omnipresent.
God’s omnipresence and the Real Presence of the Eucharist aren’t mutually exclusive. If God is omnipresent enough not to need a physical presence in the Blessed Sacrament, why didn’t you take the reasoning one step further: why did God need Jesus anyway? He’s omnipresent, so shouldn’t it have been more efficient to boom orders from the clouds like he did with the Israelites? Why did he waste time incarnating himself as a human, spend thirty odd years growing up, and then painfully execute Jesus just so he could go down to Hell, destroy it, raise up, and shoot back into Heaven? His omnipresence should have allowed him to do everything in a split-second, correct?
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

Currently the only Church to have a direct lineage with Christ and Peter and the apostles.

Is that the Gospel according to Scripture? I don’t think so. Nice sentiments though.
That Jesus Christ makes it possible for us to go to Heaven? That He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except by Him? I do indeed think that is what the Scriptures teach, and it is what the Catholic Church has taught for nigh unto 2000 years.

I have the support of early Christian texts, fathers, the oldest Church, and the very same Bible you have. So when it comes to aspects of Truth, the favour seems to be with Catholics.
Prove it!! You can’t!! For one example the Eastern Orthodox church would make the same claim and both of you cannot be right.
For Catholics, that’s the Magisterium, and that’s why we’re unified in all our beliefs concerning salvation.
You are either misguided in this statement or not telling the truth concerning what you know about unity among Catholics; I’ll go with misguided.

That is the problem with religion, they cherry pick, why has it taken your church 2000 years to interpret 8 verses or so and why isn’t the entire verse by verse and book by book given as an interpretation from the roman Catholic Church? They have had 2000 years to work on it; there is a very good reason for it and maybe when you are able to understand Scripture according to Gods purpose for you, then you would ask the same question and know the answer. I gave you similar examples of similar figurative use of idioms and language in the culture of the time and since you have nothing; you cry “straw-man”, a common tactic used by many people in religions that are contrary to the teaching of God.

You make no sense what soever; why does anyone turn from Jesus; unbelief, which is why a majority of religion people are selected for hell because a majority are in unbelief through many forms of unbelief with religion being at the top of the list of avenues. To the Jews a stumbling block and a Rock of offense as predicted by Isaiah. To the religious gentiles; foolishness, the true gospel that is.

Read and study your Bible; it will answer those questions for you if you are a Christian. You said before He, Jesus in human form is in heaven and you rightly stated that, but His spirit is omnipresent. One reason the Real Presence- in the physical sense -is not possible for a human cannot be in multiple places at one time, but the God-man in spirit is omnipresent. You will never find an instant in Scripture where Jesus appeared in two places at the same time because He was fully human as well as fully God and God is what according to the Bible? Spirit.
Currently the only Church to have a direct lineage with Christ and Peter and the apostles.
Did you know there is a warning in the NT from the HS writing through Paul about paying attention to such things and the result of doing so, which the result of the warning is clearly displayed through religions under the Christian name. Did you know that? See if you can find it; it was written by Paul and the keyword is “genealogies” and when you check the word (Greek) and look at its uses, you will discover it can have several usages and in one particular passage is in the context which you are bragging about. Also, your Eastern Orthodox neighbor would disagree with you as well; so who is right and how do you know and how do you prove it? It comes down to faith is religion , which is just that, faith in a religion for salvation in my opinion.

Really, better get out your CCC and recheck things again for clarification and recheck your previous post as to the core issue or statement you made. Do you know what the gospel according to Jesus and the apostles is? Do you know where it is found? Just asking.

I know the Gospel, and I know Jesus, and I know that He is leading me to Heaven. I need you to be more specific about what your issue is with my post(s). But…
God bless each of you unto salvation; I’m done done!!
Apparently we won’t be discussing this any further. God Bless you.

LOL! Amazing how Pat De comes across as the only one who understands the Gospel? What arrogance!

And apparently it’s a big secret since s/he left without explaining where I was “wrong.” 🤷

The real tragedy is that Pat doesn’t realize that only through Communion with the See of Canterbury can any true salvation be realized.

Just kidding! 😃

If you REALLY wanted to make a good joke out of that, you should’ve said that communion with Katharine Jefforts-Schiori is essential for unity and salvation as a Christian LOL!😛

Ugh…you’re right. I wasted my opportunity. 😃

Do you know what the gospel according to Jesus and the apostles is? I have never read the Gospel according to Jesus… I am not aware that The Lord had written a Gospel. Am I wrong in this?

DLG

The Lord Jesus proclaimed the gospel all over the place! 😃 But no, as far as anyone knows he didn’t physically write any Scripture, though we certainly believe He inspired it!

Matt 4:23 Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people.

Matt 9:35 Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

Mark 1:14 Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,

Luke 20:1 On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him
