So we should try to give someone something he himself refused?
I don’t see how you can know that - only Jesus knows what is in a person’s heart. We are all sinners. If the same standard were applied to the rest of us, precious few people would receive Church funerals. So we should try to give someone something he himself refused?
I do not understand your analogy, and I do not agree with the premise as it applies to the subject. It does little to answer my question on how one can know who has and has not sought repentance. I think we call all agree that dying is a significant life-altering event, enough that one’s past consumption of ice cream would hardly seem relevant. We humans can tell what is in a person’s heart only by its outward manifestation. If I say no, I don’t want ice cream, thank you, then I can not reasonably later get mad at you for not giving me ice cream, can I?
Yes, but that the question remains who dies in this state of slavery. This reason for denying a funeral is too close to make a final judgment on one’s soul for me.So you are saying that those who chose the slavery of sin over Our Lord should not be refused a Catholic funeral?
Boy, that was a jump to another controversial position!canonization is not infallible.
Maybe it would help to read the linked article. Bishop Paprocki clarifies his answers. You do have a point I think bears notice; the idea of treating all sins equally. I would have to question the justice of any rule a bishop has that is not equitable. Would the same diocese refuse funerals for heterosexuals who died while still living with another in cohabitation? Would the same hold true for those who were remarried outside the Church living in adultery?
Your statement above is another false assumption about Bishop Paprocki.I am not judging Bishop Paprocki based on false assumptions. It’s his diocese to run. If LGBTQ Catholics are not welcome there, they are better off moving to Chicago.
Speak for yourself… I go monthly to confession sometimes more. My Priest knows me. He sees me at Mass and Church functions all the time. If I die my priest has a pretty good Idea where my heart and head were at.Annie:![]()

So are Northern cricket frogs. Got something against using them as avatars, too?I have nothing against sharks, but they are generally considered to be predatory & cold blooded. If that wasn’t your intention, then maybe it wasn’t a wise choice for an avatar.
