The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines purgatory as a “purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven,” which is experienced by those “who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified” (CCC 1030). It notes that “this final purification of the elect . . . is entirely different from the punishment of the damned” (CCC 1031).
For Mohammed to be in purgatory, he had to have died in God’s grace. But how can this be the case for an Antichrist who dissolves the nature of Christ?

From my position, there is a clear answer to “Is Mohammed in purgatory?”: NO.

Salaam/peace

Muslim Woman,
Your last comment was a little snarky. I don’t think I need your or any Muslim’s permission to pray for someone. Thanks.:dts:
sorry , I missed your point that you are only asking Catholics , but no reply from Muslims.

My response had nothing to do with YOU being Muslim - it was in response to your snarky comment that Muslims would contact me if THEY thought their prophet needed prayers. Sorry you were confused.

If you feel lead to pray for **Muhammed go for it … there is no harm or sin in that. The Church teaches there is purgatory, let us see,:hmmm: Muhammed been dead for almost fourteen hundred years, I figure he has been doing a lot praying himself … **

**We have no way to know what was in his heart at the time of his death or if he knew what he was doing when he spoke the Quran, we will have ro leave that judgement up to God. As to what we know, by how the Holy Spirit has spoken to us (Catholics/christians) we have to speak the truth as we know it now, not by how Muhammed may of gotten it wrong back then… I don’t know if that makes a sense, but IMHO it would be OK to pray for him, and founders of other religions… mercy is what we all seek.:gopray2: **

Yes there is proof that there is no pergatory. Read the parable of Lazarus and the rich man found in Luke 16:19-31. You will notice that the rich man and Lazarus both went to hades. The rich man to the bad part and Lazarus to the blessed part. This parable also shows that the rich man could never cross over to the good side of Hades.
Also, because there is no mention of purgatory in the bible we have no idea if there is pergatory. If God wnated us to know about a pergatory he would have told us about it in the Bible. His silence on this issue shows that there is no such thing as purgatory and that it is only a made up doctrine in the minds of men.

I do not think this thread is about the existence of purgatory. Besides, Muslims do believe in a similar concept called the barzakh.

Muhamet and Islam do Not ‘reject’ Jesus, Mary, St John, Abraham. They were recognized as ‘major prophet’ equivalents, Especially Jesus. He is equated to Muhamet himself.
And they didn’t kill Christians first. We killed Muslims first, as in the Crusades, killing every living soul in some Muslim occupied towns like Ceasarea, Jerusalem, as I recall
Islam was Respectful of all true faiths at begining, and theoretically now. The Problem has been the Military conquests, Occupations of Their lands by ‘outsiders’ like Us, Isrealis, formerly Brits, French. Politics, not religion, has been The Problem, Historically.
Islam rejects the Trinity, that Christ was God and died and rose for sins. It is absurd to think that Muhamed is equal to the Lord Jesus. How could a mere man be equal with the Son of God?

This assumes that 2 Macc is Scripture but it is not because there are clear mistakes in it and also plain controdictions with the 66 books of the Bible.

unfortunatly the quran is the bible, but with twisted scripture, he led many away from the Lord as he really is therefore has a higher judgement

This is absolutely wrong. The koran is not the Bible, never has been or ever will be. The koran came from man and the Bible from The one and only true God, 2 Tim. 3L16.

then read it, you’ll find that it bears a very similar resemblance to the bible. It has much of the bible as we know it in it accept for those scriptures that are either added or twisted

Try reverse, as I wrote. Islam equates Jesus as a very ‘major prophet’ equal to Mohamed.

Machabees is True Bible, Old Testament, Recognized as Holy Word for over 2500 years. Step-brother in Christ Martin Luther removed 7 books He didn’t like, alleging that there are no old Copy Proofs of those Texts. But 500 years later The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered (1947) including portions of 2 of those Books, One extensive and almost word for word as We use. So that excuse doesn’t work. That Evidence is Ignored by those who still reject the Apocrypha. :bible1:

Its been said there are No ‘mistakes’ in the Bible; only in our Reading them. 👍

Jesus is more than a prophet though. Islam does not go far enough but stops at His humanity and denies His deity.

Exactly. Muslims are not Christians, but they Respect such as St John, Mary very highly. Pope John Paul II the Great visited a major Muslim shrine to St John before he died.

Even though they may do these things they are still dead in their trespasses and sins and have no hope since they reject Christ.

Its really not definitively known as to whether or not Muhammed actually existed, or whether or not he’s just an islamic myth.

Certainly muslims believe that he was a real person from 7th century Arabia, but that’s just their religious belief.

CCC #841 says that the Muslims are included in the plan of salvation. They have a very demanding religion, and acknowledge the Creator. They don’t totally reject Christ, respect Him highly.

But Catholics accept Purgatory based on sacred Tradition (which is valid to them) and many Catholic scholars believe that Luke 16:19-31 is about Purgatory and not Hell. You cannot prove that which you lable “false” if it is believed to be “true” to others who can’t prove their viewpoint either.

I really don’t understand why people bother with religious debates like this… chances of anyone being convinced of anything based on the flimsey evidence seems odd to me. Religion is a worldwide mass delusion in various forms. I mean no offense, but just giving my observation. I’m still trying to understand why people subject themselves to religion and the misery it causes.
