This thread has essentially consisted in posts making the fallacious argument that since the Toronto Star is anti-catholic and biased, their argument here is incorrect (which is what was argued when the very liberal National Catholic Reporter first wrote about the problem with priest abusers in 1985 and which continued to be argued until the Church finally acknowledged it in 2002 [by the way]).

One poster said he knew about the seminaries and that this is not a problem. Everyone else does not seem to really know - all they know is that the Toronto Star is anti-catholic and therefore we should disregard the article. They are all just assuming that since the Vatican crackdown, “that can’t possibly be true”.

Well, I say it can be. Canada has always been and is still more “liberal” than the USA. For instance, standing at the consecration is still the practice in most parishes across this country (especially out west) - if a priest asks the congregation to kneel, he usually gets exiled to the smallest most distant parish in the diocese (if he is even allowed to remain in the diocese). It would not surprise me if there is truth to this article - but I cannot say that for certain. Just my experience of the Canadian Church (lived here almost all my life).

That may be so out West but here we Kneel.Even in some modern churches with no Kneelers my son and I always kneel.As far as Canada being more liberal-the pendulum has swung Bubba-The Obamaites,the most leftist of ALLpresidential administratiopns to date and quite to, the left of the NDP,and the Democrats hold sway.

WE are way more conservative than the Americans are at least until the next election.Remember it was Hilary Clinton who ON CANADIAN SOIL had the temerity to lecture us on not followiong the American lead on the G8 initiative led by the Americans to include abortion in health services to third world
. women under the guise of women’s health care.We should have sent her packing like we did to Charles DeGaulle

I hate to disagree with you Soutane but I think Michael Saint, maybe onto something. I had no idea that out west most churches don’t kneel. Its the same here in the east. At my parish in the last 7 years, my Dad and I are the ONLY ones that have ever gone to confession on a regular basis. I can say this as our parish is a mission parish and the Priest is only here for Saturday afternoon mass. At a nearby parish, we can’t even go to its “Sunday” Mass as they have it at 2pm on Saturday afternoon, which by Canon law, is too early to fulfill your Sunday obligation.

As for Obama, yes we are probably only more slightly conservative that the US but that could change very quickly as I really see (and am glad) that Obama will be a 1 term President.

Yes there is a very small TLM Parish in St Kitts,near St Alfreds Church.I attended the Church of the Transfiguration,our Pastor became Bishop Lacey in Etobicoke and before that Our Lady of Victory in Winnipeg.I now attend.St John Bosco in Port Colborne where we have a wonderful orthodox priest named Father John Croal-his sermons are so filled with the Holy Spirit that one can hear a pin drop,the congregation is so enraptured.We are fortunate to have such beautiful Churches in PC,Welland,Thorold and St Catharines.

If 2 pm is too early on Sunday, why is 5 pm on Saturday Ok?

It’s not 2pm on a sunday,It’s 2Pm on a saturday.The Vigil mass is supposed to take place In late afternoon or evening as it is a Vigil for Sunday mass.Why don’t you pose the question to a priest or ask one of the Priests on staff here.?You’ll get a much more accurate answer.

Same for gay couples.

That priest is very disobedient and the Bishop should be informed and if he won’t do anything go to a Cardinal or the Pope.This is a terrible abuse and that priest should be severely disciplined if not laicised.t

There is definitely a liberal streak a mile wide in my parish. I was shocked when I saw my pastor go up to receive Communion in the Anglican Church, followed by a few of my fellow parishioners who had opted to stay in their pew until they saw him go up.

He will not refuse Communion to a Protestant or to people living common-law. In fact, I just prepared 3 families for baptism and all 3 were in common-law relationships and you can bet that all three Catholic parents will receive Communion when the time comes.

You’re absolutely correct.I’ll pray that this shepherd remembers he’s a Catholic ,an avowed and ordained CATHOLIC priest and like Ceasar’s wife should not only be above reproach but APPEAR to be above reproach.
