Is the war in Iraq an unjust war?

…To me the biggest unjust part is how the army treats their veterans. For killed soldiers the army doesn’t pay enough for the soldier’s family that gave their life defending the liberty. …
All soldiers have the option, and virtually all do, to purchase $400,000 of SGLI life insurance for $29 a month that pays regardless of cause of death. That money invested at 5% will yield the family $20,000 a year indefinitely. While not a windfall, I believe it is adequate. The family is also eligible for several other compensatory benefits.

I am a veteran and I don’t feel mistreated.

Ouch! That hurt!
These are some of the questions being asked about this war:
Why did Reagan agree to give 40 billion dollars to Hussein, if he knew that Hussein had chemical weapons. Why is Rumsfeld shaking the hand of Hussein on this deal?
Why were the members of the Bin Laden family allowed by presidential order to leave the USA immediately following 9/11, whereas no one else was allowed to board a plane, as all other flights were grounded?
Are the Iraqis better off now than before? I read that many Christians believe that they were better off under Hussein, the friend of Ronald Reagan and Donald Rumsfeld.

Why …
Just because Pope Benedict gives legitimacy to the idiocy of global warming doesn’t mean I don’t think he is a great Pope. Ronald Reagan walked away from Syria after their proxies murdered 241 Marines serving in a peace keeping role. If I had been President, Syria would no longer exist. And I still think Reagan was a great President.

The USA to unilaterally invade and eliminate the ancient and historic country of Syria? It sounds like if you were President, we would be in a catastrphic and disastrous world war, where there really would be weeping and gnashing of teeth. I like to remember the sermon on the mount and the declaration: “Blessed are the peacemakers” and apply these Biblical teachings to the present day situation.
Global warming is another topic, and if you want to discuss it, then we can start another thread on it, Let me know. Briefly, I am not buying into global warming 100%, but still, I am in favor of reasonable steps to save the environment.
The newspapers today are reporting big demonstrations in Iraq opposing the US presence there. So, are Christians in Iraq really better off today, then before the war? From many of the reports, it really doesn’t look like that is the case.

I’ll make a deal with you Bob, I won’t worry about what you would do as president if you won’t worry about what I would do. You and I have a lot more important things to worry about. The biggest problem with these forums is that the use of hyperbole is undetectable, our personality isn’t obvious from our keystrokes, and we all think the other guy takes himself way too seriously.
How about answering my questions?
I think you bring some very important issues to light better than some other anti-war posters on this forum. Or maybe you just articulate those issues in a different way.

I think it is far too late in the Iraq war to put your ideas to use. IMO the Iraq war is over and we’ve won. For the past 3 years we have been basically involved in stabilization efforts and those efforts are too far down the road to back out now. Again, IMO, those efforts are almost finished. What we are embarking on now is standing guard, while the Iraqis build the kind of country they want, and until the Iraqis can stand guard themselves. Once again, IMO, an effort that may take about 10 - 20 years. Not really much time considering only a hundred years ago most nations, upon winning, claimed their spoils and walked away, leaving the defeated to wallow in destruction.

Global trade has made the non-intervention policies of our forefathers open to debate in a global society. It has also made the world’s resources available to more people than ever before. It has also made the truth available to more people than ever before, hence the spread of democracy, liberty, and ultimately Christianity. Don’t you think that OBL and his evil minions know this? Why do you think he wants to transform the world into a 7th century Caliphate?

I’ve rambled long enough. By the way, as you can see, you and I are light years apart on our interpretations of past and current events. Don’t worry about answering my questions, I’m just glad you read my post.

Yes, the war in Iraq is an unjust one and I believe that even the Pope has said this as well.

No he hasn’t, Holly. He said, in his opinion it is unjust, and he gave you and me permission to honorably, and in good conscience, disagree with him.

No deal. I worry about what you have said that you would do. You say that if you were president, Syria would no longer exist.
If I had been President, Syria would no longer exist.
How would you accomplish what you say that you would do to Syria? Would that not involve a World war and terrible suffering and weeping and gnashing of teeth? I am in favor of world peace and peace for the people of Syria, not the terrible war and turmoil that you would bring to the area as you have indicated here.

. Don’t you think that OBL and his evil minions know this? Why do you think he wants to transform the world into a 7th century Caliphate?
I don;t know, but apparently his family has some sort of a special deal going on with the Bush family. How else explain the preferential treatment given to the Bin Laden family after 9/11? - A special treatment accorded to no one else in the whole USA?

No deal …
Then loose sleep over it Bob, worry yourself sick … over hyperbole. I’m sure someone in Syria read my post, spread the word, and now everyone in Syria is worried, too. I expect President Assad will be waving the white flag tomorrow. Maybe I should threaten OBL. By the way, that was hyperbole also.

You haven’t explained your interpretationss for me to know how far apart we are, but you have answered my question. You will not stop beating your wife.

Yeah, but we haven’t been attacked again either, and I’m not living in a cave. That’s even “more special” treatment.
But why let the members of the bin Laden family out of the country without questioning them? And they don’t let anyone else out? Only the bin Laden family gets the special treatment from president Bush? It seems like there is something wrong with that?

I agree Bob, but I don’t have an answer. I’ve never read that much about this situation. Give me some time to educate myself, and to finish beating my wife.

He knows all he needs to know and wants to know no more. Do not bother him with facts or reason. He has made a golden calf.

It seems you are upset with me. I apologize for my brief comments on a complex subject. I was trying to stay in deep water, but I ended up washed up on shore, dry and gritty. To make matters worse it’s my own fault.

I went back and re-read all your posts. You and I seem to be talking past on another. So let’s go back to the first substantive exchange between the two of us and start over.
…I will give a synopsis of my reasons I believe it was just. …
You answered:
Just when I thought the debate was getting deep, we have to go and play in the shallow end again. Better than Ender?
I’ll write a response to your post next time I’m on-line. Feel free to add to the above if you desire.
