It is not dogma, and in fact it’s very existance is speculative only.🙂
thank you strawberry jam. are you a former Catholic? if so you are going to be much more knowlegable than me. i have a friend who is a former seminarian for the priesthood, who became an agnostic. he and i have had some fascinating conversations. especially with his educational level. love the guy.🙂

I think we always take for granted God’s love. Sometimes we smack our children on the bottom because whenevr they did something bad. This doen’t mean that we do not love our children. I tend to equate God’s love to justice. God’s love is not the same as some of us believe love to be.

Fraid not. I just know about limbo from reading the threads here on people with objections to being catholic.:o

No, never baptised, so hellbound for me. Until the day comes when I can believe and be baptised. I am trying all I can to do that.

Thank you for caring. I am far from knowledgeable about a faith that one could read about for longer than the average life expectancy is. 😉

nope. no hell for you. you are agnostic… not atheist lol! therefore you really are hoping to find the truth if i am not mistaken. or if truth really exist? so i will pray that the Father reveals himself to you in a special way. or the Blessed Mother if that would be more to your comfort zone.( doesnt neccessarilly have to lead my way.lol! but promise me youll keep searching. and you are sooo right. we could study the Church or the Kabbalah,( and i do) all our lives and still not begin to scratch the surface. it really is an eternal study. that is the beauty of it. if we come to the point we know it all or cannot learn from anyone else, it will be a sad day indeed. blessings for you and yours my friend. 🙂

A swat on the bottom is not done for justice, it is correctional. Or at least it should be. Besides, a swat on the tushie is a lot different that an eternity of separation from God.

Akini, the basic problem I am having with your statements is that you are making the claim than any child who has not been baptized cannot go to heaven. This is very prblematic for me since the church herself has not declared that this is true. Her position is that we simply do not know, and we entrust their fate to God’s care. To say that you know that there are no unbaptized childreni n heaven is against what the church has said, and forgive me but I don’t think you have attained wisdom greater than that of the Church’s.

As for me personally I do not know anything for certain on this because God has not made it clear what happens to the children who are aborted, miscarried, still born, or die before baptism. I do, however, think that in God’s wisdom and loving grace he allows each child to make a choice in some way.

As for the original post, we have to define children. Are we talking about infants? toddlers? grade school? high school? This is very important, as I do think that some of these children were never exposed to the gospel of christ and never had a chance to accept it. I think they will be given their chance. As for those who heard and are not baptized (I am thinking here of children in protestant church who do not baptize until they are older) I think the belief of a baptsim of desire fulfills this requirement. If it doesn’t, then again I think God will let them make their choice. If a child isn’t baptized the fault very rarely falls on the child, but the parents.

StrawberryJam,

I pray that sooner or later you will be baptized, hence, the assurance of entering Heaven. I know for sure, it is God’s wish that you joined the catholic forum - I am pretty certain that this is the start of your long road to being baptized.

God bless you

Baptism alone does not assure one’s entry to heaven. This is against church teaching…

Thank you for your intentions. I will continue to seek.

Your friend,

God’s love is not correctional. Swatting at the bottom is not correctional. You tell him why you swatted him and point him the right direction to follow, that is correctional.
I still would like to believe that God’s mercy & love is God’s justice.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. But baptism is the ticket that allows you to enter the door that leads to Heaven. You still need to actually dance to reach Heaven.

Thanks

Akini

We must be baptized in order for us (including babies, children, adults) to enter the Kingdom of heaven. Babies who are not baptized and died, will not go to heaven. Whether they go to heaven depends on God’s mercy is another matter.

I sure hope John baptized himself.

John was baptized when Mary visited Jesus. When he lept in the womb, it has always been understood that he underwent a spiritual change that made him the last of the pre-Christ prophets.

And God’s justice is not the same justice many of us believe it to be either. 😉

Yours in Christ

It was a joke.

Maybe I do need to work on my humor or say something like

{here comes a joke}

How much did the pirate pay to have his ears pierced?

A buccaneer.

So, let me get this right - you need a ticket to get in to heaven and you need to dance ever so correctly to please God in orer to use the ticket? You know, for some reason, the notion that God is this overbearing, demanding, jealous, punishing God just never stood well with me.

And I know, all the “believers” in the necessity to “dance” will point their judgmental fingers and say I just dont want to live a resolute, God-fearing life, but come on, who really thinks there is an actual heaven or hell. It seems so childish to actually beleive that mythology.

On the other hand, given the power that such a notion traditionally holds in life, I can fully accept the paradigm in terms of social coersion and
control. and I must say, the mythology of heaven and hell works wonders on keeping 5 year olds in line!!! 🙂

And Jesus agrees with you in Luke 18:16 :

But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Well, I must say that I am sure religions like it when their “flock” are child-like in following and accepting the rules as handed down!

I actually heard a woman on Catholic radio today say how wonderful it was to hear people say “Good Morning, Father!” as they strolled into Mass - she commented happily on how they sounded like sheep! That is truly frightening!

Nonsense, nowhere in scripture does the Word of God say we have to be baptized in order to enter the kingdom of God. John 3:16. I guess the thief on the cross will not see Jesus in paradise. This makes Him a liar then. Baptism is a symbol of us dying to ourselve and living for Christ.

Baptized children will go to heaven. I don’t think unbaptized children will go to heaven. You can draw you own conclusion from that.

Akini
Thanks. As the mother of two children who died in utero, I am just so glad you posted this this way. My God is merciful. Is yours?
