no, we are fighting a Jihad against us. You need to believe what the Islamafascists keep telling you.

No, the West is no longer Christian in any real sense of the word.

It is a crusade. We had better win this one or you had best brush up on your arabic. I read an article where it said we had better be ready to kill a whole lot more people before this is all over. Unfortunately I think that will be true. Deus Vult.

The Christian enthusiasm for killing is unsurpassed.

IMHO, we are in the early stages of WWIII. Factions of Islam have attacked darned near everybody, apparently without regard to the consequences. Russia, India, China (not much in the news, but a Chinese friend keeps me informed), Netherlands, France, Spain, and on and on and on, have all been hit, as well as Muslim countries with more or less secular governments such as Turkey and Egypt.

I really hate lumping all Muslims together in this BUT they know who the terrorists are and are not turning them in. Does that not make them accomplices? Then, there are countries such as Iran and Syria who either tacitly support terrorist activities or are terrorist states. Sooner or later, the rest of the world must wake up and deal harshly with the death and destruction they seek to spread.

What choices do we have? Become an isolationist “Fortress America”, try to keep them at bay until Europe, Asia, and the moderate Arab states smell the coffee and fully cooperate, declare war on our own and incur the wrath of the rest of the world. None of the choices, either now or in the future, is appealing. I fear that much blood will be shed. If God doesn’t step in like He did is the Old Testament, our only hope is that they self-destruct since they seem to like killing each other about as much as they like killing “infidels”.

In the meantime, I guess we will have to remain alert and pray, pray, pray.

The real threat of Islam isn’t the fanatical terrorist. It’s the slow takeover of whole societies bit by bit. If nothing changes, and the rate of change continues at the same pace, France will have an Islamic majority in 50 years. The majority of western Europe is not far behind. The real question for me is will France then become an Islamic state? Freedom of religion is a foreign notion to most Muslims. We have let a moral and religous vacuum envelop the western world through secularism. Now Islam is starting to fill the vacuum.

I am reading an interesting book that discusses the new Pentagon World Map–basically, the idea is that there are Core and Gap countries/regions that differ in the way they are either embracing or repulsing globalism. As you may guess, the US, Canada, Australia, Western Europe, Japan are founding members of the Core, with new countries/regions being added with the fall of the Eastern Bloc, the opening of China to foreign investment and a form of capitalism, India’s involvement in the world market.

The Gap countries are the areas that in include the Middle East. Interesting hypothesis–the idea is that all future wars will be in the Gap regions–which so far is true, no Core country has waged war since the rebirth of globalism (circa 1946).

As for the poll, I would say that stability of resources is one facet, but I think that concern over the potential threats that this region poses is the primary mover behind the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. If Iran isn’t careful, they are going to be next on the list.

How many people killed will be enough? Do we need to kill all billion Muslims in the world today? Maybe just half that?
Calling this WWIII is silly. WWI and WWII has obvious, identifiable enemies and objectives. The “war on terror” does not. How will we know when we’ve won? The war on terror to my mind is like the war on poverty, or the war on drugs - nice ideas, but unwinnable in the end because of the abstract nature of the “threat.” Certainly military action in the war on terror only risks more terrorism, as our military presence and actions aggravate anti-American sentiment in much of the middle east.

Agreed 😦
I don’t think it’s a just war.
I support our troops.
“I love my country, but I fear my government.” :twocents:

How many do we have to kill? As many as keep attacking us. We have the right of self defense. At some point they will eventually obtain a wmd. Then they will use it. How many of US have to die? Osama said they will have to kill 20-30 million of US to win. We are dealing with fanatics. I suggest we fight back.

Zoot,
Yeah right. Those little ladies in the church on your street are real violent. Folks like you are the reason we could lose this war. Then you will see real religious violence and it will be to late.

I had to go with the first but it’s hard to characterize the West as Christian, as secular as we have become. People here can’t even distinguish between the Bible and the Quran. I see little in even the OT that resembles the blood and guts of Sura 9, and the most barbaric parts of the OT have been overridden by the NT or Catholic doctrine.

We are still getting by on centuries of residual Christian decency but eventually the ediface will collapse and there will be no pretense to Christianity. What I do believe is that it will be the faithful who will end up winning this war if it is to be won.

The opposite is true. Your statement belies a basic (and common) misunderstanding about who we are fighting. If your statement bore any resemblance to reality, then we wouldn’t have had Islamic terrorism for the past 30-40 years. The ultimate goal of Islamic terrorists is to change state policies and eventually entire governments and societies. Once you give in on one point, they will terrorize you over another. If anything other than that were true, Spain and France would no longer have to worry about terrorism. This is because they view inaction or acceptance of their demands as a sign of weakness, which they will eagerly exploit with new attacks and new demands. Thus, the only way to deal with them effectively is through shows of force and/or eradication. I thank God that we finally have a government in place willing to take such unpleasant actions.

For the rest of us there’s:

CAUTION: Some of the videos are a bit overzealous in their support. Read the descriptions before you decide to watch. Many are great tributes to the troops, though, so I hope no one takes offence with me for sharing the link.

Well, I am very torn on this subject. On the one hand, upon browsing through a Koran at work the other day I see that much of it seems to be a reactionary narrative against Christianity and Judaism, advocating graphic violence. It’s a disturbing document.

On the other hand, as my priest said in his homily today, as frustrating as evil and violence is, we are call by Christ to peace. He says that goodness will only prevail with the return of Christ and that we are called to eradicate evil by doing and focusing on good, not by eradicating evildoers. He says that Christ never advocated the destruction of those who do evil.

So, I just don’t know what to think. But I can see that Islam is fundamentally opposed to us and does desire to eliminate those who disbelieve it’s message. There are peaceful Muslims, but it is not a peaceful religion. 😦

So what was all that about throwing them into Gahenna?

How many attacked us? Maybe 20 people were involved in the 9/11 attacks. They’re dead. We haven’t been attacked by anyone since then. Lots of people are attacking us in Iraq, but, you know, we started that war.
Again, I ask, when will we know that the “war on terror” is over? When there is no more terrorism? Is that possible?
