I think saying religion should not be used as a justification for hate or prejudice is perfectly all right from a Christian perspective.
And neither should words like hate or prejudice be used to undermine basic moral principles that have been grounded in over 3000 years of religious tradition and revelation.

White Tree is talking about something else.
There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that certain behavior is sinful or disordered. However, there are some people who, upon seeing sin in others, allow hate or condemnation to fill their hearts. The violence suffered by those in the homosexual community is sufficient evidence that such people, with a warped sense of justice, exist in our world. This type of behavior not Christian. As Jesus said,

Sure, people who go around beating people up for the fun of it are the dregs of society, but they are few and far between,
That sounds very much like what was said in the speech he gave. Not an exact match, but very similar sentiment.

Are you a Catholic? If you are, then I assume you, also, are concerned by the Democratic party’s tilt against religion.
One’s profile is public. When I start to try and understand where a person is coming from, I will go to the profile and see if one is posting single-agenda, or broadly. I also look for join dates. I have no doubt that the DNC, RNC, and foreign interests create accounts and post on social media, so the profile can let me know if this is even a possibility.

I am concerned about our country’s tilt against religion, with Republicans and Democrats alike departing from the Gospel. I am no more concerned about homosexuality than I am about adultery, so in this case, the same could be asked of Trump. How can I support him? I could, still, as a candidate, except for other issues.

I am not, and have not yet been a Democrat. I would never even consider supporting them until the abortion plank is removed. However, I likewise will not in any way support Donald Trump on very serious moral grounds.
If you are a Catholic, then, how can you support him?
There is another thread on this specifically. We do not need more proliferation of threads on this specific topic, though I am sure certain interests will keep this going.
No Catholic can.
This is untrue, as there are Catholics who do. There are good, holy Catholics that do. You do not get to speak for other Catholics, nor do you speak for the Church.
Anyone who disagrees needs to repent of supporting murder.
You have now crossed the line into judging the souls of others, something the Church condemns.

So, this is about Biden’s position on gay marriage, which is the same as Trump’s position on gay marriage, right? So, what is the point?
I find that odd as well, especially considering the President’s personal history on sexual immorality.

“There’s a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Elton John married his long-time partner David Furnish on December 21. That’s the first day that civil partnerships between gay couples became legal in England under the new Civil Partnership Act,” Trump wrote.

“I know both of them and they get along wonderfully. It’s a marriage that’s going to work,” Trump continued.

Surr, we all know that what he said was precisely crafted by a number of people to be just right.

Not sure what it is you are trying to say here. My point was that you expressed essentially the same thought that he did. That the people that could be described as dregs were rare, but do exist.

Why bring them up? 99.99% of society does not agree with what they do, so there is only one reason I can think of to bring them up.

Maybe you can share another reason with us. The Democrats have been doing this for some time now on a number of issues.

I tend to take things like that at face value, regardless of who said it. Democrats are not a monolithic conspiracy any more than Republicans are. Stop looking for the “code words” or the “hidden meaning” and read it as is. So another reason could be to point out that such people are rare, but they do exist, and we should understand that and watch out for it. You know, just what was said.

Like dog whistles?

Well, if he had pointed out that such people are rare, if he had defined what he meant by the dregs of society maybe I could just “read it as is.”

But he didn’t. He called all people who disagree with certain “advances” in “rights” virulent and “some” of them dregs of society.

Seem pretty clear and plain to me:
Despite losing in the courts, and in the court of public opinion, these forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made. This time, they, not you, have an ally in the White House. This time, they have an ally. They are a small percentage of the American people, virulent people, some of them the dregs of society,
But he didn’t. He called all people who disagree with certain “advances” in “rights” virulent and “some” of them dregs of society.
Demonstrably untrue, as shown above.

He says those who disagree are a small percentage.
That is not what he said. He says that there are a few who, despite losing, are determined to undermine, and are virulent about it. Never said that the total who disagree are a small percentage, just the ones who are determined and virulent. You know of course that it is possible to disagree over things without being nasty about it.

Here’s my problem:
Setting aside LGBTQ and abortion the Republic party has no interest in the people themselves. In the last 20 years alone our world has been completely changed. Just on the topic of computers alone most people have no idea how they work or why government should care. Your privacy, indeed your ownership of is completely on the table right now.

Companies continuously error the concept of ownership and the Republic party doesn’t care. They believe in trickle down theory. Get a big company like Amazon to not pay taxes but we’ll tax all the workers slaved to death inside.

Lest the unemployment rate looks good am I right?

Yes abortion is terrible but even if you magically solve it you are handing your country to companies.

Your legal system, your freedom, your food, the very water you drink.

Republicans will not update their platforms, update their views till you force them or the old guard dies off. And they won’t if you keep going to rallies cow towing to them, cheering token nun speakers.

Nuns who have to leave and create yet again another food drive because America is starving.

So yes when Joe Biden calls anyone dregs it’s because you hold onto one moral issue and to hell with the rest.

But surely, in the case of Biden and the Democrats today, it is a flood of issues that trouble any Catholic.

Biden’s full bore support for abortion and Harris’ long term attack on pro life supporters

The unending legal cases the Little Sisters of the Poor had to live through. And this may well portend worse attacks in the future

The lack of a response by Biden to the attacks on Catholic churches, statues, and venues

The demonizing of ordinary Catholic groups, like the Knights of Columbus, (surely one of the least offensive charitable groups in the country) because they dare to believe Catholic dogma. And Biden purports to be a Catholic!

Then there are the bills Biden insists he will quickly pass, including funding abortion around the world, which will result in thousands upon thousands of preborn babies being killed. And the Equity Act which will cause serious trouble for anyone holding orthodox Catholics beliefs.

No it isn’t.
Biden’s full bore support for abortion
Thats one issue.
The lack of a response by Biden to the attacks on Catholic churches, statues, and venues
Non-issue.
And the Equity Act which will cause serious trouble for anyone holding orthodox Catholic beliefs.
So hiring a gay man is repugnant to you?
