Is this the reason some don't like the Catholic religion?

IBut if God wants you to have who knows how many children…is it not reasonable for God to help you care for all of them, with gas up to about 4 dollars a gallon?
god does help… by giving us the means to do such and such work, etc…
If anyone follows this teaching…and canot provide for this LARGE family…then we have a problem…a serious problem.
If he cannot provide for his family, he shouldn’t be starting one… The Church is also into celibate living… until/unless one finds the spouse who is right… I’ve been looking for a spouse for many years now (sort of)… I have been infatuated w/ many men here and there over the years… yet i am still un-married. Not to sound self-righteous but if everyone did that, there would be far fewer marriages/divorces/un-planned pregnancies, etc…

How large a family…like how big a house should a man have to have before getting a family?

you say everyone should do like you do in relationships…what is that exactly??? are you wearing chastity under pants? ( ok that last part was a joke, but the rest is serious)

I was leaning toward the Catholic religion and then found out about birth control and rules about how to have sexual intercourse with my husband. That is what I am not liking about the Catholic religion.
i’m just jumping in - don’t know if i am repeating?? no time to read all posts (today)…

If you believe the Catholic Church is the one Christ established… it is “easy” to accept everything She teaches… well, not always so easy because i have questions about this and that… But when i find myself disagreeing on some particular thing (not often…)… I just tell myself that the Church speaks for Christ and therefore, i have no real choice but to accept what She says…

Jesus established the Church just for this reason: He knew people would disagree on things… (I’m not saying that is the ony reason, but anyway…)…

Jesus said that the way to eternal life is narrow and there are few who find it… In other words: it is NOT easy being a follower of Christ… It is hard to give up our own way… (or what we think is our own way…),…

this is where there can be a problem - not so much with the Church but with the state. The state is getting pretty restrictive about what constitutes “abuse” or neglect of children. I don’t think there is a problem having 3 children (same sex) to a bedroom, as long as all needs are met… In a perfect world, each child should (possibly??) have own bedroom… but not perfect world… and i don’t know if having one’s own is so perfect anyway…
The point is, the Church may not have a problem with such a thing but the ((^%$^ state… different story… (Hillary Clinton once said something to the effect that all children should be raised not by parents but by the state… )…
you say everyone should do like you do in relationships…what is that exactly??? )
I have been celibate for a long time, not all that time being by CHOICE but only because Mr. Right and i can’t seem to connect… (have i even met him?? Don’t know… :whacky: :banghead: )…

but anyway, if everyone would just be cautious about who they get involved with and marry, things would be more structured in society… not so chaotic… All this divorce, re-marriage, step-parents… single parents… That is not the way the Church would have things at all… but not many people listne to the Church. I didn’t either until I was older… made a lot of mistakes along the way. 😦 I wish i had been catechized as achild, but i had to learn the faith on my own… How my life could have been different if i had only known then what i know now…
It is true that if eveyone lived/thought/believed as i do, the human race may be in jeopardy of surviving… but oh well… maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing… I mean, it is a serious thing to bring achild into the world… considerin he/she could end up in Hell… 😦
But anyway… i am assuming this answers your original question?? :hmmm:

I think you are right but I also think that us Catholics are more…ummm lets call it, meloncholy. We blame our selves and many people think we shouldn’t,and that GOD will just forgive us and we don’t have to feel bad, but we do.👍

I come from a family of 7 kids, originally 10 of us. I know of a couple of families with even more kids with only the father working. We managed, and these other families manage in fairly modest size homes. One of these families, has a small 3 bedroom home with 9 or 10 kids with only the father working a government job.

We are all too used to big homes and houses are getting even larger. Folks with large families manage to get by. Kids get used to being without or getting hand me downs. Catholic schools have big tuition breaks for big families (at least they did and still do in our area).

Personally, I loved living with a bunch of brothers and sisters. I was next to the youngest and hand me downs was most of what I saw until probably my teen years. I always thought my childhood was a blast. We had some sibling rivalrys (aka fights and shouting maches, but for most of us having a big family was terrific).

IF my wife had gone along with this, I would have preferred to have a large family also. We only have 3 but I wish we had at least 3 more. She’s not Catholic and only has one brother, no sisters.

I was raised Protestant. I am now happily Catholic. I do find Mass to be a totally different atmosphere from a Protestant service. However, I think the behavior of people before and during Mass is appropriate to what occurs there. It can seem unfriendly when you don’t understand or come from a different background.

Looking back though, I find all of the chatter and meet and greet that went on at Protestant churches to be a distraction when compared with the quiet solemness of the Catholic Mass. While it doesn’t seem friendly perhaps to people who are not used to it, it allows each person to focus on the real reason they are there. It is wonderful to quietly commune with God before Mass rather than chatter with your neighbor.

I also agree that other functions are a way to make friends and get to know people. Mass just has a different focus to it. I love Catholics. I find them to be a lot of fun and very humorous. They just happen to take Mass very seriously as they should but are very approachable and fun at fish fries, bingo, fundraisers, etc.

I especially think our priest, Fr. Tom, has a great sense of humor. At first, he seems very quiet and very serious. However, spend a bit of time with him and you see a quick mind and a quick wit and a very fun-loving person. Perhaps with Catholics it just takes a bit more time to know what they are all about.

Amie

i could relate to everything you said, especially:

too bad your wife doesn’t appreciate the blessings of having a large family…

I always wonder how mnay women, when they are older, wish they had had more children… I would think more than care to admit it… ???

“Humanism?? I don’t like that word… but maybe i am not understanding what you mean?”

The Beatitudes, and acts of charity. The mission to the down-trodden and those who suffer. In essence, the work of Jesus.👍
the only problem is, sometimes we get caught up taking care of people’s temporal “needs” and ignore their spiritual ones. When Mary spoke to Father Gobbi (is that approved?? Don’t know for sure), she said something like that we should beconcerned more with people’s souls than their “state in this life”, materially…

Anyway, you didn’t specify what kind of charity work… so i thought i would say this…

It’s because God has instructed us to be humble about ourselves, and our religion. Not forcing through people’s mouths, but being a leader and proclaiming his news, which we often like to think we do an excellent job at.

We don’t. I’m the first to say so.

We need to start with my generation, the 16-year-olds. I know we feel a hole in our spirits where God should be. Kids are too concerned with being cool to consider this. Unfortunately, they may not look at it later in life. The generation ages 25-30 are very much as spiritually mature as we are. I don’t understand why it takes so long.

it took a long time with me because i was never really taught the Catholic faith until i taught myself… and by that time, i had fallen victim to false beliefs… like osas… Yikes…

there is a certtain truth to osas… Once u have accepted Christ as your savior and been filled w/ the spirit… it is hard to totally turn away from Him… yet, what Protestants who believe this don’t realize is that even if u don’t end up in Hell… u could (will) end up in Purgatory , which is temporary hell… and could be there a long time… if u have many sins to purge from the soul…

Who wants that??

the Church doesn’t teach its members very well… probably because it doesn’t want to “force” things on people… or something… 🤷

I am Catholic and i would like the Church to be a little more friendly the way i think of friendly - myself… There ARE things wrong in the Church… Are you one of those Catholics who doesn’t want to admit to such a thing??
No, I’m not.

There’s a lesson in there somewhere. All is not always what it seems.
What do you mean by this??
I’ve been gone on vacation and just got back. Without rereading all these posts I think this is what I was referring to. I believe this is the poster that was trying so hard to get away from his past church and his experience there. But then complains a lot about how Catholics are not friendly and how friendly people were before in his old church…the one he left. My point was that he thought their “friendliness” was so great at one time but then obviously was desperately trying to break from them…thus… that Church obviously wasn’t what it appeared to be simply because they “were so friendly”. Maybe I should have said “all that glitters is not gold”. Is that better?

Catholicism does not seem to be cold and individualistic to me. I always feel welcome when I go to Mass. I think that if you want to have more social relationships with people, you should get involved with some activity or group outside of Mass. 😉

I think it is true you won’t see people standing around socializing at Mass. There are other occasions for that. Like breakfast after Mass, group meetings during different parts of the week, and social events planned by the community. So yes, we need to encourage each other to be in a relationship with Christ, but the Mass is an hour or so of worship solely to Him. We aren’t there to chat with the person next to us. I would encourage anyone that is learning about Catholicism to go to these events too. Unfortunately for some, the 1 hour on Sunday is all that they give, but many, many people give much more of there time to Christ and to others.
Well said. Mass is not social hour. People should come to the food-bank,Charity functions, choir, suppers, flea markets, bible studies, Rosary devotions and the list goes on and on. If someone wants to be social the opportunities are there for the attending.

yes, that explains it… and i have also had this experience… of thinking someone is really friendly, only to find out it isn’t “real”… in fact, it seems the ones who are the most friendly (generally speaking, not speaking of those at any particular church, but in society in general)… are the worst ones…
I guess the ones who are carrying their crosses, like Jesus said… don’t have time for all that phony so-called friendliness… 😃

I respectfully disagree…Protestants do have real friendships.

Can it be said that the BIBLE ultimately is what people don’t like about the Catholic Church?

Basicly where did most ideas from the THOUSANDS of different denominations come from?

YUP the bible. The idea that churches should be warm and friendly come from the bible.

The number one thing people don’t like will revolve around the bible…and something in the bible that a convert dosent recognize in the church.

i don’t know who you are disagreeing with, but if it is ME… i never said that…

i didn’t explain what i did mean very well (tired, etc)… I just get tired of people acting like they “love everyone” (after all, that is required of Chrstianity, whether C or non-C…) and yet, they really don’t love you in the truest sense of the word… meaning, they don’t accept this or tht about you… (& let you know they don’t   )…

Frankly, I tend to dislike the entire human race (because of things i have been through in the past… and not so “past”… Long story…) but i always try to show LOVE - meaning i try to treat them with respect, etc… even when they are ‘different’ from me… etc… etc… However, it seems that a lot of Christians… don’t really know how to… be - How should i say? - good to one another…

Why did i start this Post? Now i don’t kno where i am going with it… :hmmm: :coffeeread: :hypno:

anyway, Jesus never said we had to like eveyrone… i’m sure We would all be on our way to hell if that were the case… 😃
