Is using animals for their fur moral or immoral?

I’m not saying that cheese is bad, just adding to your point that calves definitely die as both a direct result and as a ‘‘side effect’’ of cheese production.

You misunderstand me. I don’t have a problem with slaughtering a calf for rennet. I have a problem with abusing an animal before it dies. It is of course possible that all veal calves are used for cheese making, but it is more likely that a chemical process is used in place Of rennet.

I used to want a long, luxurious mink coat. I LOVE the way fur feels and looks. Then I saw the PETA video where they hang the mink upside-down and skin it alive, just pull the skin right off it, and leave it there to die, its fully visible muscles twitching in agony. I nearly vomited. Disgusting and barbaric. You couldn’t pay me to buy one now. There is nothing moral about it. Torturing animals for the sake of vanity. Now, if you’re an Eskimo, fine, but then, they don’t treat the animals they kill in such a brutal manner.

I have a fellow soldier who was a vegetarian before he came into the army. He started eating meat in basic. His body still hasnt adjusted. He went through alot of health problems because of his change in diet, including 2 surgeries for ulcers. He says he cant do the job with out eating meat, but I wonder if he should have just stayed a vegetarian, and if there is a good substitue for meat products. 🙂 Any advice? Thanks.👍

Same reason I wont go to a rodeo. Do you know how they get the broncs and bulls to buck? youd buck too if someone tied a rope there!..:mad: I did not know that about the mink. That is viscious. We should give them the same sentence any one else would get for cruelty to animals. 😦

I know…so sad. I’m no PETA nut or anything like that. I eat meat and wear leather. But I do try to buy organic, cruelty-free products when possible. God made us stewards of the Earth and everything on it, which means we have a responsibility to treat animals in such a way that we don’t inflict unnecessary pain on them, especially for reasons of vanity or entertainment. I don’t know how the mink farmers do it. I would have nightmares for the rest of my life.

Please consider the source of your information. PETA doesn’t say where or when this is done. If you would like a mink coat there are suppliers that operate in a very humane way and are easy to find if you look. PETA’s primary focus is to generate revenue not the actual welfare of animals.

Mink farms in the USA do not do this type of fur harvesting and operate under veterinarian guidelines.

Actually, it took place in China. Really, after seeing that video and giving it a lot of thought, I couldn’t justify wearing an animal who is killed just for the beauty of their fur. On top of that, the cost is insane when I could just wear a leather jacket. At least the cows are used for meat as well.

One, thank you and your friend for your service to the country. God bless both of you.

Two, I really don’t have any advice, other than to try and eat the Boca burgers or Morningstar brand vegetarian substitutes. I’m no chef, and I’ve been a vegetarian for so long now I don’t even think about alternatives to eating meat. None of my friends are vegetarians, and the topic doesn’t come up much.

I think it’s immoral to use animals just for their fur. I’m opposed to the unhealthy factory farming practices. I try to only buy milk and cheese by local daries or those large companies that support local daries. If I buy chicken I buy the whole thing, debone it, and use every inch. Red meat is harder (becuase I can’t use a whole cow) and when I purchase it, it only comes from a local butcher that I trust…one that sells every last piece…even if for dog products.

I don’t eat much meat, though. If it wasn’t so hard to keep my weight stable without it, I’d probably be more inclined to stop eating meat alltogether. (also for B12 and iron) It’s hard and expensive to find it done right…but I do it.

I think that killing living, warm blooded creature, without good reason is just plain sick. Espcally if that animal is tourtured it’s entire existance. In my area, I have no problem with vennison meat becuase of the overpopulation of deer. They live good lives and often killing them prevents them from starving to death.

thanks for the advice. As for you, may I suggest a Seventh Day Adventist cook book? I might have some very serious issues with their religious doctrine, but their recipes are really amazing! 😉 Oh and thank you by the way. It’s not like PETA to lie. They’re a terrible organization, and they are directly affiliated with domestic terrorists, and they’re massive hypocrites since they kill more animals than the kill animal shelters they claim to be against. They’ve also more or less flat out stated that they care more about animals than for human beings. So yeah, just all around terrible organization.

But I’ve never seen any source that shows they’ve outright lied before.
 
Im a member of PETA. How dare you! People Eating Tasty Animals, is not a terrible organiztion. I agree with animal rights. right next to the gravy…😉 couldnt resist. Peace 🙂

Right - and it always amazes me that they will have more sorrow and outrage for a clubbed baby seal than a human baby that is ripped piece by piece from the womb.
 
People tend to find it disturbing when animals they like (dogs, cats, etc) are used in such ways. We don’t like the idea of eating or wearing our pets.

However, in poor, 3rd world countries, having a pet is an extravagant luxury and animals are much more useful to them for food or clothing.
