I had converted to Islam because of clarity. The purpose of life is clear: worship. The two possible destinations are clear: heaven or hell. Most actions are clear. That is, they draw one closer to God or take one away. Based on an actions benefit or damage it is judged as Required, Permissible, Left to preference, Discouraged, or Prohibited. This is opposed to the western (formerly Christian) world that has lost its Natural Law moorings. Catholicism, for example, tells us that a man and woman cannot enjoy themselves (within the bonds of marriage), if they you used prophylaxis. In fact, this can be a mortal sin. However, homosexuality, which is disordered and unnatural is an issue of debate. 🤷
I used to be a fundamentalists Christian and I understand the desire for clear cut, easy answers. But the world is not always black and white. Catholicism is the only faith that seems to allow for both absolute right and wrong and those areas that are murky.

Paul, himself, talked about the freedom that we have in Christ. Main steam Christianity expects its members to be adults.

Fundamentalist groups teach their members to be children that need to be have a list of definite rules and regulations.

You are correct our society has become very secular. I think that Islam and most Christians would agree on that issue.

I became a believer because I met the Living Christ and He invited me into a relationship with Him out of His supreme overflowing love. Not by my merits, but because He chose it. He let the scales fall from my eyes, so I could see, where I was blind before. He softened my heart so I could truly love. Every action now became of infinite importance and Holy Love became the measurement of everything to come.

The purpose of life is clear: worship.

Amen… worship and love and to be loved. The greatest worship we can offer God is to accept His Love and live according to its principles so we live a true and fulfilling life here and in eternity. Again, He wants our hearts and our trust, not our blind submission.

Two possible destinations are clear. yes: heaven or hell. Yes. However our sins cause us to be seperated from God. Therefore He has, in His goodness given us the supreme Lamb, the remedy, Christ. He was the only one that could atone infinitely and for all mankind for all times: The Old Testament made it clear already: “there is no atonement without blood”. (that means the sacrifice of a pure male on the behalf of the people) That means that the Muslims supplecation for forgiveness is not sufficient although its good. The wages for sin is death. We have been given one mediator that could brigde the gap between sinful mankind and God. That bridge is Jesus of Nazareth, who bore the sins of all up on the Cross, as also the Old Testament prophets said He would. ( I will give you these prophesies if you wish)

Catholicism, for example, tells us that a man and woman cannot enjoy themselves (within the bonds of marriage), if they you used prophylaxis. In fact, this can be a mortal sin. However, homosexuality, which is disordered and unnatural is an issue of debate. 🤷

Yes, we take discussions rather than stoning and hanging of homosexuals. Active homosexuality is a sin according to the Bible… but I guess you never read the Bible. We as Church look also at the evidence of science and natural law when we speak of homosexuality and the practices of sexuality.
In Islam its allowed for a man to marry a 9 year old (Aisha, according to the sunna) and for a man to have severel wives (which is degrading to say the least) and its written in your sacred texts that a woman has to come to her husbands bed even if she stands at the stove, and she is not allowed to say no. So, I think you have your own hands full with your own problems.
Catholicism teaches against contraception because we believe it degrades the sexual act into a mere act of pleasure and use of the other persons body. take the element of creation and soul away and you have an act of use that is always taken for granted.
The Koran says: “Kill the man who changes his religion”. In the west we have democracy and human rights and open dialog based on the Christian tradition. Here people may choose sin, and that grieves us all. But in Islam, humans, who are by nature also driven by their passions, when they fall into sin, are not allowed to exist in the religious society… they are killed or outcast, killed by gossip… which mean muslims survive in their own cultures by means of hypocrisy and lying and deceit. That is my experience and I am sorry for them…

Salaam and Peace.

Where do you get that homosexuality is up for debate in the Catholic Church? I would hate to think that you choose Islam over a misunderstanding within the Church

Your reply is half-baked and lacking in historical documentation. Perhaps a few pointed questions will lead you to further study.
  1. Did the Catholic Church ever condone corporal punishment for homosexuals? Think hard and do some research. You may reply with something to the effect of “that was then”. If so, I can reassure that the modern softness with unnatural sexual deviance is leaving room for a virulent and militaristic “gay rights” movement that will soon be able to sue the Catholic Church for hate. Heck, there are Catholic theologians who posit that Sodom & Gomorrah were destroyed for a want of hospitality. When coupled with Jacob’s eternal blessings, as a result of cheating his own brother, this makes God appear capricious. Take heart, though, this view is gaining a following…amonst Catholics .
  2. Did the Catholic Church ever allow corporal punishment of apostates? Take your time and do some study! Perhaps, the word albigensian may stir some thoughts. Punishment of apostates is not peculiar to Islam. Additionally, you are, ignorantly I suppose, leaving out the scholarly nuance.
  3. What was the legal age of marriage in Christian Church in 50 AD? Do you even know? You are assuming that a marriage of a 55 year old man to a 9 year old is abnormal. Based on what? on what law? what bible verse? How old do you thing Mary was when married to Joseph? I am not condone marriage of young girls to old men, however, to condemn it without any criteria, seems to me, a tad random.
Your analysis of Islam, or lack therefore, is disturbing and dangerous. Also, study Catholicism, within the context of other faiths, and maybe you will have a proper understanding of both. In the end, the Christian world is dying (from the inside out) and Islam is expanding. No matter how you or I feel about it. God is the author of the Natural Law and any community that upholds it will last. Those that do not will fade away. Moral Darwinism!

Simple…the catechism suggests that “A not-negligible number of men and women present innate homosexual tendencies. These people do not choose their homosexual condition…”.
I understand that this was the unaltered text, but It did not come out of nowhere. This statement, in my opinion, articulates the view of may Catholics, even clergy. My point is that the Church has been, probably due to internal and external pressure, blurring the line on homosexuality for generations. Do some research on Church history on the issue and you will see what I mean. If you respond with a suggestion that the Church is being responsive to science, I will invite to patiently await the ascent of the science of Richard Dawkins and Daniel Denett, and see what fruit (and change) that bears in the Church; which is supposedly founded by Christ (who is the same yesterday, now, and forever).

).
I don’t see how that statement could offend you. It is not saying that homosexual ACTS are are unsinful. You are reading it incorrectly

There are members on this forum who live chaste, celibate lives because they understand that they can never act on their desires. They have a same sex attraction, but they don’t act on their attraction. I admire them greatly. It must be very difficult to choose to live without sex.

So, you are saying that if a person, does not act on his or her desires, then they are sinning?

Strange, the secular world tells Catholics that we are too harsh on homosexuals while Muslims think that we are too accepting.

Then why did you post. Your profile says you are catholic? Or are you muslim? War is deceit as muhammed said, eh?
Hi Guy.I never would have seen jastor’s comment had you not quoted it in your post 😛 Last time I checked this was a Catholic forum anyway. If I want to learn islamic teaching I’ll sign up for an islamic forum. I am wondering if the “Catholic” in his info is a ruse.

Another piece of work.
What Church Doctrine have you discoverd in your research and hard thinking to conclude the Church condones corporal punishment for homosexuals? You conclude Jacob cheated his brother making God capricious but Mohammed was just in theiving making God a lair.
It is peculiar to Islam since Mohammed made it a personal practice as approved by god allah, unlike Christ ever did or even the Church in your example. The nuance you dismiss in the face of these realities is striking.
The death penalty was, indeed, inflicted too freely on the Albigenses, but it must be remembered that the penal code of the time was considerably more rigorous than ours, and the excesses were sometimes provoked. Raymond VI and his successor, Raymond VII, were, when in distress, ever ready to promise, but never to earnestly amend. Pope Innocent III was justified in saying that the Albigenses were “worse than the Saracens”; and still he counselled moderation and disapproved of the selfish policy adopted by Simon of Montfort. What the Church combated was principles that led directly not only to the ruin of Christianity, but to the very extinction of the human race.
Please relate any killing of apostates by Mohammed or those that followed him with the same type of justifications as the Church provides. Will you speak of Abu Bekr and the Great Apostasy war after Mohammeds death as similar to your example of the Church?
  1. What was the legal age of marriage in Christian Church in 50 AD? Do you even know? You are assuming that a marriage of a 55 year old man to a 9 year old is abnormal. Do you even know? It wasn’t 6 or 9 years old. Marriage to a pre-pubesent female child in any culture in any time period is abnormal to the rational mind and rational person. The same can be said about him forcing the divorce of his adopted son and his wife so Mohammed could marry her which caused a great controversy, quelled only by a timely revelation.

Can you show where the Greeks or Egyptians thought this was a accepted practice to marry and have sex with children? Can you find examples of any culture not influenced by Islam that did as Mohammed did before or since? Nothing suggests Mary was under the age of 15-16 of age, just your conjecture to make what Mohammed did less objectionable since you place him along side the god of the Quran.
Your analysis of Islam, or lack therefore, is disturbing and dangerous.
Your defense of it despite the facts is more disturbing and dangerous.
Also, study Catholicism, within the context of other faiths, and maybe you will have a proper understanding of both.
It does not seem to have helped with your reasoning.
In the end, the Christian world is dying (from the inside out) and Islam is expanding. No matter how you or I feel about it. God is the author of the Natural Law and any community that upholds it will last. Those that do not will fade away. Moral Darwinism!
Natural Law does not permit theft, murder, or lies, for to steal, kill, and speak unjustly violates Gods Law. Natural Law does not suggest sex with children before puberty is valid. Christianity affirms these prohibitions and Islam does not but rather makes evil acceptable. You can try and speak all the nuance you like to defend your prophet for acting against the Natural Law, but the mental gmnastics you will employ are more a exercise in intellectual dishonesty than scholarly review.

Your reply is half-baked and lacking in historical documentation. Perhaps a few pointed questions will lead you to further study.**
1) Did the Catholic Church ever condone corporal punishment for homosexuals? Think hard and do some research. You may reply with something to the effect of “that was then”. If so, I can reassure that the modern softness with unnatural sexual deviance is leaving room for a virulent and militaristic “gay rights”…

There are still Christians today that persecute homosexuals in some countries. This is sad. You see, the important point here is that these acts of persecution are not sanctioned by Christ’s example. Unlike Muhammad, Christ calls to repentance and to love of the sinner. He loves the sinner and hates the sin. He says: “Let the one who has no sin cast the first stone” and “Do not judge lest you be judged, and you will be judged according to the measure with which you judged others”.
Now, are you free from sin Eichen? Have you never stolen, had sex outside of marriage, lied, slandered, cursed, been ungrateful, been proud? Think hard. You think the homosexual sin should be severely punished. But how about you and your sins? do you prefer patience and kindness, or do you prefer to have your right hand cut off if you miss the mark?
Jesus says: “Treat others like you want them to treat you”. I for one have sinned in many ways, for instance when I was a young girl I struck another child. Should I have been punished by death for this sin? I am happy my God is my Father. He sees His child and admonishes her, causing her to feel convicted so she changes and becomes better, and with LOVE He points out the right path, so that she can be free and happy. God walks with me and share my life with me. Thus is the Fatherly love of God. You on the other hand live in fear for punishment or you live in proud illusion that your asking forgiveness from your god can suddenly take away the consequenses of your sins.

2) Did the Catholic Church ever allow corporal punishment of apostates? Take your time and do some study! . Punishment of apostates is not peculiar to Islam. Additionally, you are, ignorantly…

Again: show me one place in the New Testament where Jesus corporally punished anybody. He was able to do so rightly, because He had no sin, but He rather said: “Neither do I condemn you, go in peace and sin no more”.
Look E, I have been in the Middle East and seen that there is no less sin among the Muslims there that practice their faith than among secular Europeans. Europeans dont go to church and they dont speak of God, but the young Muslims I met went to mosque on friday and slept with women on saturday and looked at porn on their phone. The son of a sheickh told me he stopped lying when he lost his faith in allah. He also said that many of the men he knew were cheating on their wives. He had lost his faith in islam for precisely these reasons: the slander, harshness and hypocrisy he saw there.

3) What was the legal age of marriage in Christian Church in 50 AD? Do you even know? You are assuming that a marriage of a 55 year old man to a 9 year old is abnormal. Based on what? on what law? what bible verse? How old do you thing Mary was when married to Joseph? I am not condone marriage of young girls to old men, however, to condemn it without any criteria, seems to me, a tad random.

We believe that the Virgin Mary was 14 when shegot engaged, which was the custom in Judea at the time. However, the Catholic Church helped institute the marriage form (in the 11th century if not before) that we now take for granted in the West unlike in many parts of the Muslim world: namely that two people must be FREELY and publicly accept the marriage, and therefore must be at a certain age for it to be valid. Also, the western legislation is inspired by these principles.
At 14 you at least are becoming a woman even though today we regard it too young. But there is no excuse for sleeping with a 9 year old and raping war-prisoners like Muhammad did. I cant believe educated people with a conscience can fall so low that they defend such a man.

Your analysis of Islam, or lack therefore, is disturbing and dangerous.

Yes, hopefully its disturbing you. Its a known fact that many muslims fall away from Islam precisely when they start to investigate the unhistorical claims about corrupted Jewish and Christian Scriptures and when they really look at Muhammad’s life, instead of just repeating unknown Arabic.

Also, study Catholicism, within the context of other faiths, and maybe you will have a proper understanding of both.

Thank you for at least accepting the way of knowlege. Many of your brothers dont welcome religious critizism. I have studied religion for some years at university and there studied the Koran and Hadith. I am also a convert to Catholicism. It has not been without sacrifice, endless hours of study and prayer, that I went from being a nominal lutheran to being a serious Catholic. I know the trials it entails when you follow Truth, and thus what lies ahead of you too, if you seek.

** In the end, the Christian world is dying (from the inside out) and Islam is expanding.**

Don’t you know the fastest growing religion is Pentecostal Christianity? Christianity is growing everywhere else than Europe. Even in the countries that slaughter converts to Christianity, like Saudi Arabia, Iran and areas all over the Middle East people have dreams of Christ where He tells them: “I am the Lord”. They are so persecuted that many dare not even mention Christ, but the fire is burning in their hearts. Christianity is still strong in many countries in Europe too, which we see from the human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, freedom of religion etc. The last years alone in Africa has brought millions of people out of the chains of Islam and into the arms of Christ.

No matter how you or I feel about it. God is the author of the Natural Law and any community that upholds it will last. Those that do not will fade away

The Church was talking about natural law centuries before your prophet lived.
According to you sharia is the form of perfect society where the sinners are severely maimed or stoned and women and infidels have limited rights. However when we point to societies that implement sharia to the best of their ability, like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan and certain provinces of Pakistan, muslims always say that its false, so I guess you will all go under with the rest of us.
Jesus Christ said: “My Kingdom is not of this world”. He alone is trustworthy and good…
Your prophet was certainly a man who made his flesh into his god.

Peace and long live freedom.

I suggest that you read the entire passage and everything that the Church teaches on the subject. Homosexual attraction is not a sin. Acting on it is a mortal sin. There are just as many gay Muslims as any other group. Does Islam teach that all men should be tested to see if they are aroused by other men? No. It teaches that those who practice the acts are in trouble. It is the same teaching wit the Catholic Church.

What you have done, seemingly unintentionally, is focused on half of the teaching and ignored the rest.

I read so many stories on revert to Islam . Many Christians said , they could not understand Trinity mystery . Islam is very strict on oneness of God & that attracted them to the truth 😃

i bet you nobody cried “foul” when this guy left the faith and went to islam. but Christianity got insults and protests from the muslim world when that muslim guy (journalist?) converted to Catholicism, the one baptized last Easter by the Pope (sorry - forgot his name). give vicente some time and he’ll find the Truth.🙂
God bless.

Yep… and how about all these guys:

or this guy, son of a sheickh and leader of Hamas:
youtube.com/watch?v=1W5wZ1J1OZM

These women and men were very serious Muslims who all got converted to Christianity through their own studies of Islam… actually, their serious look at their own religion made them run from it. They looked at the example of Christ and compared Scripture with honest hearts. Many had visions of Christ, many suffered serious persecution and still do. Many were healed from their afflictions in the name of Jesus… none of them wanted to come to Christianity just because of the feel of it, or for a “clear cut religion”. they were compelled by Truth…
These brothers and sisters of ours are heroes.

So maybe you can read that Muslim Woman, if you dare. I hope you will… It will give you the peace you so look for and which made you come to this forum.

Peace.

I have read enough to see the gradual slide into moral relativism. No matter what the Church teaches, I say that it is self-evident and supported by natural law that homosexual attraction is UNNATURAL. When I as a man, eye a cheerleader on the sidelines of a football game (that I am not married to), this may be disordered and sinful, but it is natural. Homosexual attraction is sick, disordered, and unnatural. By the way, there are plenty of these undesirables in the Muslim world, but they no better than to have a “gay pride” parade; for the good of their and others souls and bodies.

Gay pride parades have nothing to do with Catholicism.

I mean no offense to Muslims but aren’t homosexuals killed in Islamic countries? I would imagine that fear of death would prevent a gay pride parade.

It means Muslims want to follow their holy book , they are trying to follow the commands of God Almighty .

Sinners fear that they will be punished under Islamic laws. If we don’t punish sinners , sin will be spread in the society . So , if gay people fear punishment & that keeps them away from gay parade , what’s wrong with that ? At least , they can’t encourage others openly to commit the sin.

just curious. I read that not even any Pope ever memorised Bibile. So, how do u know they have the whole Bible in memory ?

I wondered this also. See, us great minds think alike.😛 Although Christians do memorize verses and chapters of the whole Bible, I have never known one to memorize the entire Bible! I am not saying that it hasn’t occurred, its just not something that we normally would do.

Christians have the same desire, to follow God’s law. America, although predominately Christian is not a Christian country. America is secular. Also, I think that many Christians would rather a person follow God’s laws from love not because we force them to do so.

I am not that lucky to start the life as an innocent newborn baby .
Yes, you are.
John 3:5-7
5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’
The man Jesus was talking to was old and what He said applies equally to men and women of any competent age. I hope someday this will make sense to you.
