Yes, I remember that post from Famdigy and if I remember correctly, Fam also mentioned that mohamad could speak something like 70 languages.

The hadith I quoted above is from Sunni books. There are other hadiths in Sunny book of Bukhari which state that mohamad wrote. I just haven’t gotten there yet.

🤷

"Certainly, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the Believers (Muslims) the Jews and those who are Pagans, and you will find the nearest in love to the Believers (Muslims) those who say: “We are Christians.” That is because amongst them are priests (Men devoted to learning) and monks (men who have renounced the world), and because they do not behave proudly. And when they listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger (Muhammad), you see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognize the truth. They say: “Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses. And why should we not believe in Allah and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islamic Monotheism) and we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection) along with the righteous people?” So because of what they said, Allah rewarded them Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise), they will abide therein forever. Such is the reward of good-doers. But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, they shall be the dwellers of the Hell-Fire."(Al-Qur’an 5:82-86)

This would be another way for Christians to gauge their likely destination in the Hereafter.

The Qur’an says that the Christians who will be safe on the Day of Judgment are those whose eyes are likely to be overflowing with tears when they listen to the truth of the Qur’an.

However, those who shed crocodile tears are of course not eligible for entry into Paradise.

Hey… hey… hey… !!!

Don’t turn my “hadith” thread into a koran thread.

This is a reminder to everyone that the recording of every single verse of the Qur’an is in fact a mutawatir hadith.

However, in deference to the wishes of the OP, I shall refrain from posting “non-hadiths” on this thread.

No JC, Hamba is right. It is not a new order. The second command is very old. It says “You shall not make or keep any graven images” Graven images means many such things. The command does not say you shall not worship or consider graven images as divine. It says you shall not make or keep graven images.

The sinful life starts from such very small apparantly innocent habits. It then builds into a great sin. This time you should be sure that I am not sugar coating anything. I am strictly describing the images inside the churches and on church buildings as violating the second command. So this time it may be a bitter pill to swallow.

You should try to understand how our two religions, Judaism and Islam go hand in hand against paganism. You are not a pagan but you are not very far from it. By You, I do not mean J C. I mean the system.

You’re correct. We are not pagan. We do not worship the moon god. We worship the one true God. We worship through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Those who do not worship as such can never enter paradise. So…I believe you can forget 72 virgins.

J C, Muhammad was not literate. He was not like Jesus who read everything, lesson by lesson, from his superior teachers at the temples. There is no way that Muhammad could read any Tanakh or other books. He had no time. He and his men were highly persecuted. They were running away from the city of Makkah. There was no chance or place where Muhammad could get any material.

Muhamamd could not read and write Arabic and you are trying to say that Muhammad plagiarised the Quran from defective corrupted Jewish and christian sources. You have to think over what you are saying.

Just a quick clarification: I said the highest number that someone I have personally met has claimed to speak was 25 (linguist K. David Harrison made that claim at a screening of his film “The Linguists”, but it was with the qualifier that I also stated in that same post, that you reference below). Others have claimed to speak more, though when you get into higher numbers the parameters tend to become a bit blurry (e.g., claimants counting Serbian and Croatian or Hindi and Urdu as separate languages to raise their total numbers, even though most disinterested linguists will tell you that they’re dialects of the same language).
Dzheremi also pointed out even people who speak so many langauges do not speak them all fluently and their ability varies from language to language. My wife can speak 4 languages (Russian, Ukrainian, English, Polish) but her ability in Polish is poorer than the rest. She could make herself understood but would never claim to be fluent.
It’s a good thing that she is not a prophetess, I suppose. As I mentioned earlier (and plenty of people apparently agree), this claim about Muhammad’s linguistic abilities seem less about hard facts than about hagiography. Maybe he spoke languages other than Arabic, maybe he didn’t. I don’t really even see why it matters. I have read that Pope John Paul II spoke something on the order of a dozen languages more or less fluently, and had a working knowledge of several more. Of course, this is befitting a man who guides a worldwide organization. No doubt Pope Benedict XVI speaks several (German, Latin, Italian, etc). The thing that is different about Muhammad and Islam is that through the force of conquest the majority of languages that were found in the Middle East at the time of the Islamic conquests (started by you know who) were eventually replaced by Arabic. This does not seem like behavior befitting a polyglot who sees himself as the head of any sort of worldwide community. Later Islamic leaders were marginally better about letting the conquered retain their language, as Arabic itself would be reserved for the court and the mosque, and there is indeed a long tradition of Arab linguists dating back many centuries (though they were mostly concerned with their own language, from what I’ve seen; most translations from other languages were done by Assyrians, Arab Christians, or Jews). Many people who kept their languages nonetheless went through a process of linguistic and cultural Arabization; in fact, “Mozarab” (the term for Christians of Iberia under Islamic rule who did not convert) comes from the Arabic “must’arab”, meaning “Arabized”!

Dear Planten,

sorry for butting in, but well as you say Mohammed was illeterate. That has been heard time and again from many muslims. But one thing that has never been discussed was that Mohammed had memorized the whole quran and had dictated it as was revealed with no extra word added or deduced.

That means Mohammed had a super memory, that also means, with the 70 languages he knew, he must have memorized the Holy Bible too. 🙂 isnt that so?

Thats why we find the quran mentioning the names of the Prophets who are in the Holy Bible, although they say that there were almost 125000 prophets. Somewhere down the line he must have forgotten the complete stories as he heard and hence quran does not give the complete pictures of all events that ever took place in the past.

Which all makes me wonder, did mohammed really have a super memory to memorize the whole quran. Did he dictate it as it was recited to him?

wwolverine, my reply to your last para only… YES. He memorised the whole Quran. He got all revealed Quran committed to writing (as well as memorised by others too). Writing was done by the scribes. He could dictate to the scribes and then tell them to read back what they had written.

Quran was recited loudly in 5 daily prayers by all Muslims. So no doubt or mistake.

The angel Gabriel used to visit the prophet every year in the month of Ramadhan to revise all the revealed part of the Quran. The prophet used to repeat every word after the messenger angel. In the last year of the life of th prophet Muhammad, the whole revealed Quran was revised twice.

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 125: Narrated Abu Musa:

A man came to the Prophet and asked, **"O Allah’s Apostle! What kind of fighting is in Allah’s cause? **

**(I ask this), for some of us fight because of being enraged and angry and some for the sake of his pride and haughtiness." **

**The Prophet raised his head **(as the questioner was standing) and said, “**He who fights so that Allah’s Word (Islam) should be superior, then he fights in Allah’s cause.” **

**
7th century muslims ~ some of them fight because of being enraged and it doesn’t take much to enrage a muslim, and some of them fight because they are angry. Well, it doesn’t take much to anger a muslim.

But some others fight because of their “sake of his pride and haughtiness”.

And mohamad approves all of this and calls it, “fights in allah’s cause”.

These are the same attributes muslims display in the 21st century.

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 127: Narrated 'Abdullah:

While I was going with the Prophet through the ruins of Medina and he was reclining on a date-palm leaf stalk, some Jews passed by.

**Some of them said to the others: Ask him (the Prophet) about the spirit.

Some of them said that they should not ask him that question as he might give a reply which would displease them. **

But some of them insisted on asking, and so one of them stood up and asked, “O Aba-l-Qasim ! What is the spirit?”

**The Prophet remained quiet. I thought he was being inspired Divinely. **

So I stayed till that state of the Prophet (while being inspired) was over.

The Prophet then said, “And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the spirit --Say: The spirit – its knowledge is with my Lord. And of knowledge you (mankind) have been given only a little).” (17.85)

**

Interesting hadith.

A bunch of Jews want to ask mohamad about this “so called spirit” who visits mohamand, so they get enough courage to ask him, but mohamad is silent. See, the Jews are testing mohamads prophetic call.

Why did mohamad stay silent? It sounds like he didn’t have an answer and had to “cough” one up as a “revelation” from allah.

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 128: Narrated Aswad:

Ibn Az-Zubair said to me, **“Aisha used to tell you secretly a number of things. What did she tell you about the Ka’ba?” **

I replied, **“She told me that once the Prophet said, 'O 'Aisha! Had not your people been still close to the pre-Islamic period of ignorance (infidelity)! I would have dismantled the Ka’ba and would have made two doors in it; one for entrance and the other for exit.” **

Later on Ibn Az-Zubair did the same.

Does anyone understand this one? What is he talking about???

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 132: Narrated Um Salama:

Um-Sulaim came to Allah’s Apostle and said, "Verily, Allah is not shy of (telling you) the truth. Is it necessary for a woman to take a bath after she has a wet dream (nocturnal sexual discharge?)

The Prophet replied, “Yes, if she notices a discharge.”

Um Salama, then covered her face and asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Does a woman get a discharge?”

He replied, “Yes, let your right hand be in dust (An Arabic expression you say to a person when you contradict his statement meaning “you will not achieve goodness”), and that is why the son resembles his mother.”

 Not only mohamad is “self proclaimed prophet”, but now is a doctor & gynecologist and a gene specialist. Multi-tasking at it’s best.

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 134: Narrated 'Ali:

I used to get the emotional urethral discharge frequently so I requested Al-Miqdad to ask the Prophet about it. Al-Miqdad asked him and he replied, “One has to perform ablution (after it).” (See Hadith No. 269).

 Poor Ali

Volume 1, Book 3, Number 136: Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

A man asked the Prophet : "What (kinds of clothes) should a Muhrim (a Muslim intending to perform 'Umra or Hajj) wear?

He replied, "He should not wear a shirt, a turban, trousers, a head cloak or garment scented with saffron or Wars (kinds of perfumes).

And if he has n slippers, then he can use Khuffs (leather socks) but the socks should be cut short so as to make the ankles bare." (See Hadith No. 615, Vol. 2).

Did allah place all of these coutures in place?

Hmmmm I wonder if allah or mohammad was in the fashion/retail business.

So, 7th century come with me to the 21st century because muslims still follow this wardrobe ritual.

Phew!!! that’s the end of book 3… 👍 Now moving on to book 4.

Translation of Sahih Bukhari, Book 4:

Ablutions (Wudu’)

Volume 1, Book 4, Number 137: Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Apostle said, **“The prayer of a person who does ,Hadath **(passes, urine, stool or wind) **is not accepted till he performs (repeats) the ablution.” **

A person from Hadaramout asked Abu Huraira, “What is ‘Hadath’?” Abu Huraira replied, " ‘Hadath’ means the passing of wind from the anus."

 So, if you are praying and pass “wind”, allah will not hear your prayer. ~ Null & Void ~ So go and wash up and hope that you don’t have continous gas problems. 👍
