Islam, Religion of Peace or......Think about it.

Thanks! I always assumed the Catholic Church had certain Popes who would twist Scripture to commit evil acts, but I never could find proof.
Well, having argued for the prosecution I’ll argue for the defense:

Urban was urging reform and trying to get the European nobility to stop killing each other. He genuinely wanted to help the Byzantines and he genuinely wanted to stop Seljuk aggression. Fulcher of Chartres’ version, especially, puts his address in the context of the “Peace of God” and “Truce of God” movements. Other versions stress the alleged Turkish atrocities. These stories were very likely exaggerations, but Urban probably believed them. One can’t charge him directly with responsibility for everything the Crusaders did, like the massacres of Jews in Europe (which the local bishops tried to prevent) or the massacres they committed in the Holy Land when they captured cities. But I think we can say that if they heard Scriptural passages proclaimed in the message urging them to war, they would take those passages as justifying the atrocities they committed, even if Urban hadn’t intended it that way. So it’s not necessary to see Urban as evil (which I don’t think he was) in order to say that he used the Scriptures in a way that led to evil acts.

So the Sunnis are wrong about her age. Is that a surprise to you? They are also wrong about Jesus’ crucifixion, a matter of much greater import.
What ever the sunnis or any other Islamic tribe wrote about Christ is fantasy. He was not their God and they know nothing about the truth.
If you read the link I posted, it clearly shows that it is impossible that Aisha was 9 when the marriage was consummated.

She either lied about her age, simply didn’t really know it (which would have been typical for that culture and timeframe) or the hadith is wrong.
If you read what I posted you would find a link from a more scholarly source than the Huffington Post that provides more substantial evidence that Aisha was in fact 9 years old and also that pedophilia was accepted and probably still is.

Since Western Cultures consider pedophilia the worst crime imaginable against children, it becomes very important for Islamic apologists to try to convince us that Mohammed never committed such a crime…even though he encouraged his (male) followers to “…marry a young girl”

Remember we are discussing a culture that practices female genital mutation as well as honor killings.

You post hadith sayings about Aisha from an anti-Islamic website, which you claim is “scholarly”.

That’s a lot like me going to Jack Chick’s website for accurate information about the Catholic church.

You also didn’t provide any arguments against the article I provided, which clearly shows that an age of nine for consummating the marriage was historically impossible.

Was there any information in my source that was inaccurate? Please feel free to correct it.

That was because it was rubbish.

Liepert’s article is completely debunked here:

Bear in mind, Matt, that Religion of Peace supporters know very well that it is vitally important to sway Western public opinion into thinking that the Religion of Peace is a religion of peace. They will go to extreme ends to promote this lie.

Since this thread was dumped on me from another sub-forum, those newer posters who are unfamiliar with the posting rules of NCRs need to read them in my signature.
Return to the OP, stay on topic not each other.

Well… I’m out of here. I’d suggest any other Catholic posters to abandon ship!

I would recommend people avoid hate sites of any kind, regardless of whether they promote the hatred of the Catholic Church, Muhammad, Jews or any other individual or group. That’s just not a good thing to rely on.

Regarding Aisha, she had a strong vested interest in making her age as young as possible to strengthen her and her father’s claims for leadership of the community after the passing of Muhammad.

Sunni Muslims look up to Aisha and her father Abu Bakr, so of course they do not consider the possibility she was less than honest about her age. But other information and historical analysis makes it clear the likelihood she was actually anywhere near 9 years old is in fact remote.

How about the daily news? Even that in small dose’s? 🙂
An interesting question!

I try to minimize my exposure to the mass media news, as I find it spiritually debilitating.

We are here to learn to love God, love our fellow man, educate ourselves.

Our civilization right now emphasizes worldliness, greed, sexual immorality, nihilism and hopelessness - all sins against faith and God.

I try to “feed” myself positive things, as those draw me towards Him and away from my broken, self-centered ego nature. The less I allow the dirt and grime of the world to pollute my soul, the better I am able to focus on His love, light and truth.

We are here for such a short time. We choose what to focus on, what to give our time, energy and heart to.

I choose to give very little of that to the mass media news…

Yet who would argue Christians are the highest targeted religion, and at the hand of Islam. I’m all down for charitable and leaving the slam Islam sight’s alone, yet there’s a real issue also.

Of course, its right to strive to leave the physical sense of the world and the vice acquired by it behind to ascend to the spiritual. And the filth of the world shouldn’t be a distraction from the spiritual.

That said the Christian persecution is hard to ignore. In fact its right to speak up about it. Its not exclusively Islam, nevertheless they can’t be ignored. 🙂

Actually Gary, what I’ve learned here on this thread is that Christianity has always been a violent religion. It wasn’t until the secularization of the State that minorities began receiving rites. It wasn’t until secularization that homosexuals were treated with dignity. It wasn’t until religion was silenced that people began actually treating others with charity. That’s what I learned here.

…and it won’t be until secularization begins in Islamic lands that radicals will become watered down.
