Peace TarAshly

Do you think that if Mohamed (peace be upon him) is what Booklover described, that Islam would be the fastest growing religion? That people would find truth and change their entire life for this religion (look at Cat Stevens and Malcolm X to name a few).
Is it for certain that Islam is the fastest growing religion, or could that be part of the liberal media hype?

Let’s say for the sake of argument that it is the fastest growing religion. That still doesn’t prove it to be the truth! Is sounds to me like you’re trying to convince yourself.😦

He goes through and discusses, from his seminary knowledge, how Islam has more things in common with early Christianity then modern Christianity has.
If by “modern Christianity” you mean protestantism, then sadly you may be right. 😦

Faith, there you go again, inferring that we worship 3 Gods! We worship 0NE God, in 3 divine persons. Look at it this way, there are five fingers in the hand, but it’s still only one hand, not five!
LOL what did you expect? It really seems they can’t tell the forest from the trees, if you catch my drift.

Hi Booklover,

Islam is growing in leaps and bounds, not only in the world, but In America also. Not in country’s were Bibles are traded for food. But in shopping malls and universities across the country.

Media Hype? Media hype is anti-Islam, not pro-Islam.

What it boils down to is that a religion is only as good as its members.
Hi Booklover,

What does that say about Christianity? The average Muslim is substantially more religious then your average Christian.

Yes, they can’t seem to give up the notion of 3 gods! They hold on to that as to a lifesaver because that way they can say we’re wrong!😦

By the way, I really like the quote at the bottom of your posts and how true it is!🙂

Yep… And thank you! 😉

Yes, isn’t it silly how we can’t get our minds around the fact that God, the creator of the heavens, earth and everthing in between it, can die, have a son, become human, separate from himself in such a way as to cry out " why did i leave myself" because this is what is meant when Jesus(as) cries out " father, father, why have you forsaken me" because you believe that he is God and when God separated himself from Jesus(as) on the cross, what he really did was separate from himself.
Isn’t is silly have we don’t buy any of this and prefer to believe that God is One, Eternal, Everlasting, Merciful, Compassionate tec. All He does is forgive when we repent. Very silly indeed  .

Well that just blows my mind because Catholics don’t believe in forgiveness. It’s against our dogma.

…lol just what are you trying to prove??

Thank you all who have participated in this fascinating thread. I have a question about what is commonly referred to as “syncretism” - or the merging or fusion of two differing belief systems. (In this case, Islam and Catholicism.) Can a person be a believing Catholic AND a believing Muslim SIMULTANEOUSLY?

Although I am exclusively Catholic, I come from a background in which syncretism, particularly Catholic Christianity with other beliefs, is practiced by many people who are close to me. My grandmother was raised Buddhist but converted to Catholicism when she married my grandfather, and she has practiced elements of both faiths ever since (though she identifies herself as Catholic). My girlfriend of several years has always been (since before I knew her) a truly devout and faithful practicing Catholic while AT THE SAME TIME a dedicated and fervent committed Marxist. And finally, and most appropriately for this thread, my best friend, who is Lebanese with a Muslim father and Catholic (Maronite) mother, is Catholic of the Latin/Roman rite, attends Mass every Sunday and Holy Day and receives the Sacraments regularly, but he also adheres to many Muslim beliefs and practices, including attending mosque with his brother (who identies himself as Muslim), praying five times per day, abstention from pork & alcohol, various other tenets, as well as extensive Biblical and Koranic studies. I believe he is truly a sincerely holy man of deep faith in God.

This may seem naive or idealistic to some people, but I personally cannot find any appearance of internal conflict within any of the people I mentioned above and to whom I have formed very close bonds throughout my life. In fact, I see absolute peace, harmony, happiness, and fullfillment in all three people.

(It is a striking contrast to the rest of my family members who are strictly exclusive, almost extremist, conservative protestant/evangelical, “born-again christians”. This latter group in my family always seems so angry, hostile, aggressive, and deeply unhappy with themselves and with the world around them, which they condemn uncompromisingly.)

Anyhow, I would be most grateful for any thoughts or discussion on this matter. Thank you all for your time. Have a wonderful day.

The short answer would be “no”. You would either believe one or the other. Anything else would be a completely different belief system.

EDIT: well, it may depend on which parts of the other religion you try to “integrate.” You have to ask yourself if the implied beliefs in both practices contradict themselves.

Where does it say in Quran a particular verse that say; “I am Allah, and Muhammad is my prophet.”

It seems to me that it is another person (not God) that is speaking that; “…Muhammad is his prophet” and not the words of God himself attesting that Muhammad is “my” prophet.

There is a radical difference between Muhammad and Jesus because God the Father Himself, from his own words say; “This (Jesus) is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased” attesting to the fact that Jesus is his Son. (emphasis added)

That quote was not from me, it was from a man who has his Phd in divinity from harvard. You might wanna read his book and argue with him…Gerald Dirks is his name
We worship 0NE God, in 3 divine persons. Look at it this way, there are five fingers in the hand, but it’s still only one hand, not five! The Holy Trinity has been revealed to us by God who can neither lie nor deceive. It’s not for us to understand it at this time, we accept it.
All of the analogies used to describe the trinity have so many holes in the them…but if you are comfortable with it…then so be it.

Praise God that He has revealed himself in a way that is understandable to all human beings. We dont know everything, but what we do know doesnt require us to send our brain on a vacation.
Have you read the account of Jesus’ baptism? The spirit of God descended on him in the shape of a dove and the voice of God declared: This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased"
No, i havent read that account. All i know is what hte Quran tells me.

They say: “(Allah) hath begotten a son” :Glory be to Him.-Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him. (Chapter #2, Verse #116)

It is not US that say there are 3 in 1. It is you. 3 persons in 1. That doesnt make sense (to ME)

Vickie…do you believe that Jesus is the son of God because you were taught this…or does it actually make sense to you…just curious

Faith101,

I have read some of the dialogue on this post and I can see that you are sincerely trying to understand the differences between Islam and Christianity. I am no expert but hopefully I can be of some assistance. I believe that Jews, Christians, and Muslims worship the same God, even though they understand Him a little differently – we are all sons of Abraham.

I understand that Muslims believe that there is only one God. Christians believe that there is only one God also, but that He is a triune God (3 persons in one God, NOT 3 Gods - The Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit). I agree that this is a difficult concept to understand, but the composition of Almighty God surpasses all human understanding because we are limited, finite beings (his creations). We cannot understand because we are not like Him, we have no experiences to draw upon. Certainly if God is all-powerful then He can be anything He wants, even if it is outside our realm of understanding, right? It would not be very impressive if God could do nothing that we did not fully understand.

Although I do not have them in front of me, the Bible throughout indicates to us that God is indeed expressed to us in a Trinity (3 persons in one God) even though the word “Trinity” is not explicitly stated. For example, I know Jesus states “the Father and I are one”. I will find more for you.

What does Islam believe about the accuracy of the Bible? I may be wrong but it is my understanding that Islam believes that the Bible has been corrupted over the last 2000 years as the scriptures have been rewritten and translated into different languages. Is that correct?

If that is correct, what does Islam feel about the Dead Sea Scrolls found at Qumran? These are the oldest existing copies of scripture found about 50 years ago, much older than what remained before. It is reasonable to assert that if indeed the Bible of today is corrupted as a result of 2000 years of translations, that the content of the books in today’s Bible would not match that of those same books found in the Dead Sea Scrolls. But in reality, it is astonishing how little if anything has changed in the scriptures since the Dead Sea Scrolls of 2000 years ago. The Church with God’s protection has preserved them from corruption. Peace be with you!

Faith, we are not meant to understand everything about God. But when He reveals something to us, we are supposed to believe it even if we don’t understand it, because God does not lie or deceive.

I can’t explain the Trinity, no one can. Yes, I totally believe in it.

I can understand why if you’ve never been taught this, why you would have a hard time with this, but I’m a cradle Catholic so this is what I’ve always been taught and believed.

I hope some of this makes sense. There’s just no limit to God’s power. I remember someone saying that if we could understand all about God, then he wouldn’t be God! There is no way that we humans can understand the mystery of God.
