Thoughts?
My only thought at this moment is that a 5 year old child in Gaza has already lived two wars.
Hee is there. Right now.
Tha article I am reading is about an argentine nun in Gaza who asked a reporter if he could call her later cause two bombs had just exploded in front of their house.
. A 5 year old tells this nun with a sad.face " Do not worry. You will get used to it "

Little children of.God , in war zones , we hold you in our hearts and in our prayers.

Hamas IS playing all of us like a fiddle. I couldn’t agree more.

Recently I was shocked to hear a panel on Fox news all agree that the “conflict” would last a “couple of days at most” (sic). Included in the panel was Charles Krauthamer (?). My jaw dropped. I believe this was about 2 weeks ago.

There have been so many replies to this thread and I have read only a handful but has anyone pointed out the most serious threat? IRAN Iran has publicly pledged their support to the Palestinians. Have they done so specifically naming Hamas? (someone help me here)

I shudder to think of Iran’s possible future involvement in this conflict.

Sure Iran has a part with their Ramadan commitment to jihad and killing in Gods name to exterminate Israel and the USA. Not hard to see at end of the murder sequence even the good muslims reject this. And Iran proudly reported as much, its linked above.

Hamas is in effect refusing everything offered in peace talks, because in truth all they want is to exterminate Israel and they are part of Irans plan with the nuclear warheads. Hamas isn’t in a position to reject peace as I see it.

Hamas is despicable.

“The sources further said the civilian suspects murdered by Hamas were publicly celebrated by Hamas as martyrs killed by the Jewish state.”
A lot of people probably aren’t aware of what a fairly nice city Gaza City is. It’s not a slum.

Yes, Hamas is just too radical.

I’m all for giving them their own voice as with brothers and sisters in America and Russia and more importantly the rest of the world, the silence is unacceptable with Christian and Jewish persecution and commitments to it.

The MB is going to Congress to be banned in the US and is gonna pass. 👍

The photo you linked to was taken in 2007, before the economic blockade was imposed.

Here is how the international relief organization Oxfam described the situation in 2014:

The blockade of Gaza
Code:
The blockade - now in place for seven years - has devastated Gaza's economy, left most people unable to leave Gaza, restricted people from essential services such as healthcare and education, and cut Palestinians off from each other.

More than 40% of people in Gaza - nearly 50% of youth - are now unemployed and 80% of people receive international aid. Many key industries, such as the construction industry, have been decimated as essential materials are not allowed into Gaza. Exports are currently at less than 3% of their pre-blockade levels, with the transfer of agricultural produce and other goods to the West Bank and exports to Israel entirely banned.

The blockade left people reliant on tunnels from Egypt to bring in goods. The Egyptian government's closure of these tunnels in mid-2013 has severely worsened the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Massive fuel shortages have led to daily power cuts of 12-16 hours - leaving hospitals, schools and small businesses struggling to keep going, and water and sanitation systems often failing.

Ceasefire agree’d to…

The announcement comes after Israel offered a 24-truce late Saturday that was rejected by Hamas. The Israeli military hasn’t said whether it will halt the majority of its operations during the time Hamas requested, but has said troops will continue to demolish militant tunnels.

Early Sunday, Israel resumed its ground offensive aimed at destroying Hamas weapons and tunnels after Palestinian militants lobbed rockets across the border after a 12-hour lull in hostilities Saturday.

I hope it takes hold. Reuters resports that fire from Gaza has continued. This led Israeli prime minister Netanyahu to publicly question Hamas’ commitment to the announced ceasefire.

“Hamas doesn’t even accept its own ceasefire, it’s continuing to fire at us as we speak,” he said in an interview with CNN, adding that Israel would “take whatever action is necessary to protect our people”.

Still, the fighting has diminished and peace may break out.

As the war between Israel and Gaza rages on following the deadliest day of fighting since 2006, a group of bereaved Israeli and Palestinian families are taking a stand against the violent escalation.

A new video clip produced by the Palestinian Israeli Bereaved Families for Peace uses a simple formula which forces viewers to reflect on the ever increasing number of dead from the conflict.

google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB0QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.i24news.tv%2Fen%2Fnews%2Fisrael%2Fsociety%2F37837-140721-bereaved-israeli-palestinian-families-we-don-t-want-more-families-like-us&ei=ZRPVU4zYLqm28gHO84DYAQ&usg=AFQjCNHUuEn5ebijJP02CDwpNJDFaMaCWw

“We don’t want you here,” Israel and Palestinian family members who have lost a loved one in the conflict say directly to the camera. The sentiment is repeated over and over as the camera focuses on faces, young and old, speaking in Arabic and Hebrew - all faces of those bereaved from the death brought about by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Protests in France …

All people of good will desire peace. That said I don’t believe Hamas will be leaving, perhaps just not as lethal for now.

One luxury hotel was built: the al-Mashtal.

theguardian.com/world/2011/aug/08/gaza-first-five-star-hotel

However, it has languished with the continuing economic blockade and the episodic peace. The training camp which Hamas built next door to it might also deter some guests. The place is largely vacant even during peacetime.
Nobody but a fool would go to a resort in a terrorist state unless he was one of them. There was a chance for a good outcome for Gaza, pre-Hamas. But Arafat threw it away.

Arafat was dead before the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. And he was dead before the hotel was built.

However, I agree that the ongoing crisis in Gaza has prevented peace. The election of Hamas, and the forcible expulsion of Fatah, was a major factor in creating this ongoing crisis. The Israeli response to Hamas has also been a factor.

Israel has every right to defend itself, and Hamas has not shown willingness to negotiate a two-state peace. However, Israel’s economic clamp down on Gaza has fueled support for Hamas, rather than diminish it.

But haven’t the Egyptians also placed a blockade on Gaza???

Yes, Egypt controls the southern border of Gaza. About a year ago, Egypt closed the crossing with Gaza and has only rarely reopened it. Any long term peace deal between Israel and Gaza will need to include Egypt.

I was told the following by a Palestinian who was a very central figure in negotiating the abortive peace agreement brokered by Clinton. I won’t mention his name, but he was in the news photos when the “deal” was announced. It was a complex agreement which included very major funding from the U.S. and Saudi Arabia to build high-end tourist facilities in Gaza, which has some really good beaches. Israel was to provide the knowhow and infrastructure, including power and water. Fatah was to provide the “muscle” to guard the tourists and the facilities. Unfortunately, Arafat stole the money and started the Intifada to cover the theft. Gazans were enraged by that and rejected Fatah politically, embracing its rival, Hamas.

Hamas, which is sort of 80% islamist and 100% “mafia”, has ruled ever since, because it controls the money, the commerce and the guns in Gaza.

Fatah eventually did recover some of the money from Arafat’s widow after Arafat’s death. It is presently invested in the U.S.
Apologies for the delayed response-I have been out of town.
