It seems as though some people in this forum, would like to see the Pope take on a “Bush Doctrine” type policy against the enemies of the Church.

Of course we’ve seen how well the Bush Doctrine has been working!

From Al-Jazeera:

Ismail Haniya, the Palestinian prime minister, called on Palestinians on Sunday to refrain from sectarian strife.

“All Palestinian citizens must prevent all harm to all Christian churches on Palestinian land. Our Christian brothers are citizens of Palestine. They are Palestinians,” he said.

No, we just want people not to kill the Pope simply because he wants to talk with them about some errors in their religion.

Your hatred for Bush is blinding yourself from seeing the truth in what is happening here.

Via Yahoo! News: Fellow Italian nuns of slain Catholic sister Leonella Sgorbati line up to board the plane carrying her body as all the nuns working at the SOS hospital were evacuated from Mogadishu September 17, 2006.

This may have been one of the purposes of the attack.

Sister Sgorbati was a member of the Consolata Missionaries. She “died in an operating room after being hit with three or four bullets in the chest, stomach and back, doctors said.” More

This may have been one of the purposes of the attack.
The purpose of the attack was to show that Al-Qaeda is gaining control in what was formerly an anarchical area. Africa is becoming a quiet new front for the organization. Between Somalia, Sudan, and Kenya, the problem needs to be addressed, as it is too far under the radar right now.

I will say that I just saw on CNN that there was an interfaith rally today in London between Catholics and Muslims (and other denominations) to bring attention to the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Sounds like it went off quite peacefully.

Maybe the political radar

Good

Be careful, you’re painting with a broad brush here.
They will kill at the drop of a hat, even their own, they don’t need too big of a reason, I know there are those in their own camp that are afraid to speak out against extremists.
So I expect it’s up to Catholics to be brave enough to speak out against them, like we do on just about every other moral issue on the planet, just like Jesus did when He walked this earth, even though He wasn’t flavour of the month for saying it.
Their own need to come out on a grander scale and condemn them, and prove to us that they really are a peaceful people, but they’ll have a hard time convincing me.
The brush may be broad, but let us deal with the extremists among them.

I spit on their “Honour”. Killing a nun by shooting in the back is hardly honourable.

This nun has been given the crown of martyredom…she is beholding the Beautific Vision even now.

Rest eternal grant unto her, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in everlasting peace. May she look upon the Face of Jesus.

Yes. Cardinal Murphy O’Connor was there, among various other faith representatives. Tony Blair was offering them his support too.

Off-topic, but we need to do something about Darfur. Now.

This brave nun’s shooting is tragic (may she rest in peace), but any connection to the Pope’s comments is currently speculation.

It was obviously a highly dangerous area to begin with (as Somalia is, and has been, for many years now). I’ve never heard of a nun having a ‘bodyguard’ before.

Somali Islamist: Murder of nun may be linked to anger at Popehttp://www.haaretz.com/hasen/images/0.gifBy Reutershttp://www.haaretz.com/hasen/images/0.gifThe killing of an Italian Catholic nun in Mogadishu on Sunday may well be linked to anger among Muslims about Pope Benedict’s recent remarks on Islam, a senior source among Somalia’s Islamists said.

“There is a very high possibility the people who killed her were angered by the Catholic Pope’s recent comments against Islam,” the source said.

http://pajamasmedia.com/images/sister_leonella_featuredimage.jpgSister Leonella: Killed for the “honor” of Islam.
Nun and guard slain in Islamic reaction to Pope’s comments: “The bodyguard died instantly, but the nun, from the Missionaries of the Consolation order based in Nepi near Rome, was rushed into an operating theatre after being hit by three or four bullets in the chest, stomach and back.
“She died in the hospital treatment room,” doctor Ali Mohamed Hassan told Reuters. “She was shot outside the hospital, going to her house just across the gate.”
“A nun from the Missionaries order identified her as sister Leonella Sgorbati, born in 1940, in Piacenza in northern Italy. In Somalia since 2002, she trained nurses at the SOS Kindergarten hospital.”
May all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Probably due to stepped-up security for Catholics in Somalia after the clerics call for the death of Pope Benedict.
Actually, the security situation in Somalia is extremely grave. It’s one of the most dangerous places on Earth. I’m virtually certain that the bodyguard, in this case, would have been a requirement for their own safety before they even arrived.

Watch “Black Hawk Down” sometime. The situation has not improved (although it has changed somewhat).

God is wrathful and unloving in the Koran

"Some critics say that the Koran mentions the concept of love only twice. In fact, the Book mentions the concept of love about a hundred times, if such statistics are really the essence of the message.

After declaring God’s universality, the Koran describes God as “most Merciful, most Compassionate” (1:3). In fact, every single Surah except one begins with this declaration about the divine nature.

God is also known in the Scripture as “Full of Loving-Kindness” (11:90; 85:14). It is with the attribute of divine Love that the Koran most often seeks to directly create a relationship with humanity by encouraging those actions that bring God’s love and discouraging those actions that extinguish God’s love.

Without doubt, the Koran also mentions God’s wrath for those who reject faith after clear signs have come to them, and upon those who are bent on spreading evil and corruption on earth. But, as Prophet Muhammad said while quoting God himself, “My Mercy prevails over My wrath.”"

Mind you, I’m not Muslim. I’m a faithful Catholic and I truly believe in my religion. I’m also a history professor, and as such, I always try to provide a balanced position so that people can make up their own minds.
Some of his (from second link) explanation for the Christian doctrine of the Trinity sounds like something out of the The Da Vinci Code - he says that only after Constantine converted did the doctrine of the Trinity surface. Of course, we know this is patently absurd and can be easily disproven. It doesn’t give me much faith in Islamic apologetics.

Here’s the proof, from the VATICAN ITSELF. There is contact information included at the bottom of the article if you wish to debate the Holy See.

Still a lie on your part. Nowhere does that article say that Mary is mentioned “far more” in the Koran than in the Bible. It says nothing like that. Did you think nobody was going to check what you posted? Either go to confession for your lie or go tell your Imam you did a poor job of lying to the infidel. (More likely the latter.)

Try to do your job without LYING.
