If someone says, “Isn’t it at all possible the moon is actually a spy station set up to watch you?” I believe in saying, “Anything is possible, but I take the massive evidence that the moon existed before I did as a sign that it is **more likely ** that it’s a natural satellite that has nothing to do with me. May I show you some art depicting the moon from before I was born?”
Are you serious? lol People are debating this?

:bigyikes:

right, but has he/she debated with someone about that? lol
Not that. I used it because it was the first paranoia story I could think of that I hadn’t heard. Just to isolate the point I wanted to make froma ll the thousands of actual conspiracy items I’ve heard, so as not to get dragged into a debate about any theory itself.
I hear a lot of paranoid ideas. It might be all the drugs around here or something. The overall effect is enough to wear out most pople’s rational defenses. There have even been ones specificaly about me and some of my friends, which I wasn’t aware of for a while when they were going around.:whacky:

Probably not.

Anyway, the free speech argument is an interesting one. I’m all for free speech, I don’t think Chick should be banned, I just dislike his work and think he went the wrong way about things. His tactics are questionable at best, and his work is libelous and misleading, which is likely to have a opposite effect to the one he intends (in most people). I mean most Catholics posting here were disgusted by his anti catholic tracts. Had he argued against Catholisism reasonably he may have had a more positive effect in that people would just dismiss him out of hand. And Christian bookshops may have keep stocking his books so he may have reached more people. Hes a bit of an idiot really.

He doesn’t just single out Catholics. I’m not sure, what is his overall point…other than telling others to avoid Catholicism, Islam, etc?
Basically just Catholicism because, you see, in Chacks…eh, I didn’t meant to type that but it’s staying now, in Chacks world, everything evil today flows from Catholicism.

“At a very young age, schoolchildren are being told that homosexuality is okay. Here is God’s view, carefully written for young readers”

I ask everybody to read this tract to see how carefully written it is and what he allows to be printed designed for young readers.

By Chick’s own story of his life, he was an aimless, probably solitary, kid in the 1930’s who was obsessed by drawing early 20th Century fighter aircraft and whose main fault was swearing a lot. Drafted and sent to Okinawa, he saw a lot of traumatic scenes and returned dazed. He married a Baptist preacher’s daughter (I think), sat around with her family listening to radio preachers, and finally succumbed to their pressure to fall to his knees and get saved Baptist radio preaching style – repeat the prayer and it’s all over. Afte that he was expected to come up with a way to support his wife and spread the message that that’s how to get saved. He didn’t knwo what he could do until he learned that some churches used comic tracts. He read about the effectiveness of the insinuations, ridiculous but compellingly emotional style and repetitiveness of the comics the Communists in China were using to spread their message and decided – he says so himself – to imitate those tactics as closely as he could. It attracted attention, particularly that of two con men who separately saw him coming, and moved into his life fast with stories more outlandish than his style – they beat him at his own game, being old-time pros AFAICS.
They were just the first of a series of pathological liars, psychologically disturbed vagabonds, crackpot theorists and sheer hatemongers to persuade him to let them tellt heir stories through his operation. If he ever realized what was happening, he never let on. Now he’s something like 80. There’s a movie about him. The trailer is downloadable at the Monsterwax Jack T. Chick Museum site (they’re a comics/ephemera/vintage vinyl/kitsch collectible organization with a huge site), and such Chick influences as Dr. Hovind and Rebecca Brown are there with their intriguingly weird speech styles and body language.

Jack Chick brought me back to the Catholic Church.

I found an historical error in one of his tracts. I cannot remember which one buyt it had something to do with Constantine’s victory at Milvian Bridge in 313. Chick claimed that the image painted on the shields of the soldiers was the “ankh” symbol, not the cross. I checked a standard reference work, K S Latourette’s History of Christianity, which I happened to have in my library. Lo and behold, there were a few “ankh” symbols found on shieds according to archeologists but the majority of the images really were crosses.

So, If I cannot trust him to be accurate in something as easily verifiable as history and archeology, how can I trust him on more important and less easily verifiable matters like theology and whether or not I am teh doomed?

There were many many other steps on the way, and Keating’s Catholicism and Fundamentalism plays a large role as well, but that comic was an early impetus.

😊 ok then! I just thought I’d ask.😃

Aren’t Jack Chick comics the most ugly things? I would think that something so ugly and offensive would be counter-productive.

Yes–they really are. At first, upon viewing them…I thought…maybe he’s joking. Maybe this is a twisted sick joke. But, then I realized this is part of his typical medium for insulting the Catholic Church. It also seemed ‘dumbed down,’ a phrase I hate, but something that seems to be what he is trying to do. Not just dumbing it down…but putting a spin on it that is not true. I couldn’t believe the accusations of Chick…Catholics paying for indulgences, how the host is a ‘magic cookie,’ and how we are brainwashed.

The cartoons are utterly foolish, it’s amazing that people could read them, and think Chick is onto something.🤷

What I don’t understand though is… why is his ministry still standing? Where’s he getting all that money? After all, if everybody already regards him as a crack pot then logically, most people wouldn’t even dream of buying any of his material so where’s he getting all that cash? Who keeps buying his garbage?

You have to keep in mind that there are people who espouse to an ambition of proving the validity of the ditty that says: Ignorance is bliss.

All I’m going to say is… think of the two things that Forrest Gump is known for saying over and over again in the movie. Now forget the one about the “box of chocolates”…the other one covers it…

Go figure… I think that beyond anything else, the people that actively buy and distribute those things…and who foolishly leave them in public restrooms…(where every one of them I find ends up in the trash) …have no clue as to how much money they are wasting…and really haven’t much strength in their faith that they have to foist that (insert expletive of choice here) on people that are disgusted by it…in a “vainglorious yet cowardly attempt” to justify their beliefs by trying to tear down the beliefs of others. Fact of the matter is…anyone who believes that they must denigrate another religion as a part of their justification for their own beliefs…is just a tad more than misguided and delusional.

For example, in ‘Who Murdered Clarice?’ Jesus says, ‘I damn you to hell.’ So its Christian teaching that Jesus damns people to hell?
Mat 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Mat 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Mat 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Mat 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Mat 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Mat 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Mat 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

I don’t have any problem with Jack Chick having Jesus assigning an abortionist to Hell.

I think of all Jack Chick’s offences, and there are many, his reference to Jesus sending an unrepentant abortionsist to Hell is not one of them.
The thought that these child killers will see justice helps. The thing that is difficult is waiting for this justice, knowing that more killing is being done in the meantime.

In the comic you are referring to Chick shows two homosexual men publically parading their homosexual relationship before school children and the teacher endorsing their lifestyle.

This is the deliberate leading astray of children. Our Lord said that whoever did this it would have been better for a milstone to be placed around his neck and he be thrown into the ocean.

Chick is saying something that all Christians should be saying – the only sexual relationship that God allows is that between a man and a woman in the binding contract of marriage.

Criticise Chick for the many things he gets wrong, especially his attacks on the Catholic Church, but let’s not attack him for the few things he gets right.

You do know that tracts like that are only gonna fuel the fire of pro-gay activists right? What Chick fails to utilize is the ability to use logic against whatever he is attacking. Anything that doesn’t use logic in a debate with regards to the gay agenda instantly gets the overused homophobe label.
