I agree 100%. Few Catholics are aware of how accepted and prevalent this ugliness is among evangelicals. If I’d been the priest who found those inserts in the missalettes, I might have left them there and used them to address in a homily the return of virulent anti-Catholic sentiment in American evangelical and non-denominational congregations.
Good idea but our Bishop wanted to have law enforcement notified since it was happening all over the diocese. My students got to talk about the situation and ask questions for an hour at CCD the following Wednesday. These are some of the same kids that are all fired up to defend the faith and are studing apologetics with me this year.

The trouble with Chick is that he convinces only the very stupid - & if people are stupid enough, their very stupidity is a coat of mail against rational argument; they can’t follow an argument, so convincing them that Chick publishes anti-Christian propaganda is impossible.
I thought I could speak freely in here?? I didnt even do it in an unkind manner…It’s the power of repetition. The rational part of the mind blinks off and on. It’s like an alternator; it has to do that to work at all. A lie that’s repeated often will eventually hit the mind faster than it can cycle and remember why it doesn’t make sense, unless there’s some internal or external reinforcement of the truth. That’s why rich kids who party in clubs that play gangster rap sometimes come out sure that they need to live like gangsters. That just means the best defense against a lie is the truth. If you yell at a door-to-door religious canvasser and call him a hatemonger and ask why he’s so stupid etc. he’ll connect the experience in his mind to the warnings he’s heard over the years about how he’ll be persecuted for telling “the truth” and it will reinforce the whole system of ideas in his mind. If you say, “I’ve read that, here’s the truth about this and here’s the truth about that,” he’ll argue but he’ll thaw a little. Remember that people under controlling systems are starving deep down for factual, rational, respectful conversation and once you get around the fear you can get their interest easily. The guy at your door with tracts doesn’t hate you. He cares about you and feels guilty toward you for failing to reach you sooner. Watchtower, Plain Truth, Chick Tracts, or whatever it is, he thinks you need it. So you smile, accept a few, say you do know the ideas in them and want to talk about it. Open them. Pick them apart one by one. don’t stop at “That’s stupid, that’s absurd, that’s a lie.” Explain why. Compare it with the truth. Then return them – and scribble a good URL, like this one, on the white space. Some religions don’t let people use the Internet or read contrary materials, but some do.
