I have a question - can you be both a Catholic and a Jedi? 'Cause I really want a lightsaber! šŸ˜›

I think public order requires placing limits on the Jedi religion. As the article says:

ā€œHowever they can be tempted, like Darth Vader, to use their powers for evil by turning to the Dark Side ā€“ which could potentially spark a crimewave in the UK.ā€

Just another something that Jesus didnā€™t createā€¦

Can you actually take these Jedi seriously? Itā€™s seem to be that they are more of a joke.

Decades ago, when episode 4 came out, mythologist (and cranky alienated ex-catholic) Joseph Campbell told George Lucas he realy should make a religion out of Star Wars. Lucas didnā€™t but some other would-be L. Ron Hubbard type apparently did. Sigh.

Iā€™m a SW fan. Thatā€™s right, fellas, Iā€™m a nerd. But Iā€™d never make it my religion for the following reasons:
  1. The ā€œcanonā€ of SW changes with each book, movie, etc.
  2. As seen with New Jedi Order (a long story arc 30 years post a ā€œNew Hopeā€), views on light or dark side of the Force can be changed. Currently, light/dark in seen within the person rather inherently to the action itself. Since the Force is a force, not a person. He cannot reveal himself to worshippers, so it is up the Jedi to discover and debate what the Force is.
  3. It is basically worship (or whatever they do) of an idea that inherently changes due to publishing. It seems theyā€™d place more faith in the writers, publishers, LucasFilms than the Force itself.

Oh there is a force going around alrightā€¦I can smell itā€¦:bigyikes:
