The Force is with you, SassyGal… But you’re not a Jedi yet.

With a name like SassyGal it seems like you would be Princess Leia. She is particularly sassy.

Heh, thanks for your compliment.

Star Wars is cool.

The name is rather sarcastic, but yes, I love hip hop and I am part of a hip hop group… Two different ones actually. I rap in both of them.

Hm? Sometimes. The groups aren’t Christian. I rap with non-Christians and Christians alike. I’m not a Christian rapper- I’m a rapper who is Christian… The reason I don’t call myself Christian rap is because of the great disservice that I believe many Christian rappers have done by being wack and coming off corny… I try to let my love of God and my hatred of worldliness seep through in a dope way on my tracks- I used to be living and rapping blind and hypocritical, now I seek to do it righteous, but its hard. As an emcee you still have to know how to rock a crowd, even if you are seeking to drop Divine knowledge.

Yea, my son is a famous DJ who does appearances in New York, Atlanta and Miami, and Boston…but he is going to become a fire fighter now, He’s probably your age, low twenties. That scene is ok, he is pretty level headed and doesn’t do drugs. I thank God for two Blessed boys who are great people. I ruled with an iron fist. Parents are the anti-drug…

Your son is a famous DJ? Big ups to him- you must be proud. That is a God given talent- Lord knows I couldn’t do that. Good for him… Hearing he is famous makes me giddy but I won’t pry.

The hip hop scene (as in the underground scene) is actually not bad at all… That drug stuff isn’t very prevalent from what I’ve seen at all. People aren’t real jerks either- they are very accepting and it is an atmosphere of love, respect, fun, competition. It serves very much as an anti-drug for a lot of these kids. The underground hip hop scene seems to also favor positive vibes, living righteous, and even serves as a springboard for people to glorify God by talents. Many people misunderstand it.

Parents may be an anti-drug but for me, my music and performing makes me like, “Why would I want to do drugs and be less potent and aggressive and able as a rapper?” And that is besides the fact that it is submission to mind control and I like my reality fine.

your right! My son once said to me “Mom, I can’t spin if I do drugs”. I thanked God. I thank god every sunday at Mass not to take my kids from me. I couldn’t live anymore.

He plays pretty much Dance Music anyway, not hip-hop. Like the DJ from England, what’s his name? Oh it’s Paul Okenfold…ever hear of him?

Hm… I’m sorry- name sounds familiar, but I don’t listen to much Dance music… Is that kinda like House? I dunno… I suck at classifications… Its still awesome about your son though. That is sweet. The DJ for one of my groups is a practioner of hip hop, jungle, drum and bass- he’s talented. He’s currently training as a National Guardsman.

Big ups to you and your son though. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that BS about DJs not being talented or real musicians. To spin well takes way more skill then to play guitar well. Every kid on the block can play a guitar- for every 50 you might find a DJ. Maybe for every 100 in some places.

Thank you, I will tell him that…are you African-American??

Hm?

…No ma’am, I’m a white boy, if that makes any difference. I’ve found it doesn’t in hip hop (good hip hop anyways)- its just how skilled you are.

Hey eminem and the Beastie Boys were pretty good, well I was never a fan of neither, but I did like eminem’s life, how he came from a trailor park to a mansion. Good for him. How old are you?

I try, but in my own estimation I must be doing something wrong cuz I end up on my knees so much asking for forgiveness- but the Lord is very good to me nonetheless. : )

I’m gonna jump in with a comment…My DH really likes Paul Okenfold (sp?). I never heard about him until DH started sharing music with me. DH used to be a DJ too but God spoke to him and told him to quit. Problem was he was doing weddings and the drunken girls were always coming up to the table flirting and being downright obnoxious even though he made it known he was married. They were drunk, they didn’t care. I had prayed for discernment about the whole thing when he got into the scene. I’m glad he’s out.

Now he’s 37 years old and mixes on the computer with some software and broadcasts via live stream on some website from our basement… He still loves to DJ but won’t do it in a club or for weddings. So he can still do what he enjoys in a safer environment and does not need to travel 🙂 Plus I know where I can find him when I need him to change a diaper while I’m with another one of the little ones;) .

you are a good person…stay with Jesus and He will guide your career…🙂

I pray He will… I feel like I can glorify Him while still having fun and doing what I love… Some people think its sacreligious of me, I think- or they don’t take it seriously but I blow 'em off. Thank you very much for your conversation- you seem really cool and enlightened about this stuff.

Thats a cool story, Kelly… Big ups to your guy for doing that stuff… Most of the shows I do are all ages shows where kids are there for you- not the alcohol. I wouldn’t care if people were drunk anyways… I’d blast them with lyrics till I left their head piece hangin.
