Its good that I know there are people on the forums like you… A while back I got into a huge argument defending hip hop from a bunch of these people, but its okay.

LOL Yeah…but he had a boss to answer to and some bridezillas to contend with so he couldn’t be very liberal with how he dealt with the drunks. He simply told them to step away from the table please or he’d ask the bride or groom (if they were available) to deal with these women.

That white boy can rap 👍 …no, seriously now…I really can’t stand his music. I just love the movie because it is sooooooooooooooooooooo bad. Bad acting, bad dialogue, bad editing, bad everything…

I wanna see the movie though- I love bad movies. I have a bad movie collection actually- I take pleasure in bad movies.

Some other reasons why Jedi cannot be a religion:
  1. If they follow the franchise, then these Jedi would know that Force sensitivity is something you are born with. Some have it. Some don’t.
  2. How can they be Jedi Knights if they are not Force sensitive?
  3. It seems their own canon refutes their own claims to Jedi hood.
  4. The Force does not have any ontological reality–it’s fiction created by George Lucas. It seems like worship of a franchise, not religion.
However, they are welcome to follow the Jedi code. Even then, it would be a religion of ethics.
 
Lol… Was he the very first though? I understood once that 3rd Bass kinda pioneered white rap- maybe I’m wrong though. Beastie Boys were very early on too… House of Pain.

SassyGal, I recommend listening to a rap group called Mars ILL from Atlanta. They are an extremely awesomely skilled group, and the emcee is a Catholic- he isn’t preachy or corny about it either, he is just concious and very skilled. I recommend Mars ILL to any Catholic who thinks all rap glorifies sex and violence.

Not the biggest Kanye fan myself… I have a hard time getting into most modern mainstream rappers… I love Wu-Tang Clan (group and solo albums… I’ve actually talked to Ghostface Killah and shook his hand and rapped on stage with him there if that means anything to you…), Gravediggaz are a huge favorite, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, KRS-1, Mars ILL, some LL Cool J stuff, Public Enemy, just whateva… I even like to listen to NWA even though I don’t take it seriously in anyway.
 
Mark Hart aka “The Bible Geek”(of Lifeteen) does a hilarious little comedy skit about how Jesus might have been a Jedi because in 1 passage it says Jesus waved His hand and the person was cleaned just like the Jedi waved their hand and stuff happened.
 
Of course, most of those who put down Jedi in the 2001 census were lying - there was a big campaign at the time to get people to put down Jedi as their religion which is very stupid - and so most of those people could in theory be prosecuted.

I guarantee you there are less active Jedis (wouldn’t they have to show a teaching lineage of Jedi masters?) than active Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, Buddhists, Bahais, LDS, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and all the others.

What we also have in the UK is a sizable community of people who live their lives according to the way of life seen in the “Gor” fantasy books by John Norman - among other things, women lead basically a slave existence for men. But there are women into this. There’s even a radical subgroup of Gorites. Ho hum.

I know some of these names from my son, he would know all of them and more. I’ve heard of Ghostface, that is incredible you met him. NWA is real wigger music, kind of hardcore I think. Remember OPP? “Ya, you know me”…I use to love that song. Run DMC is pretty old though. When they did the song with Aerosmith, I knew it was over for them…
I’ve seen Christian rap groups eh…not the same, but not bad. How about my favorite Christian rap song “Stomp.” Have you heard that one? Have it on now… 🙂
 
Oh, but there is something wrong. Us Catholics are use to horrible stuff concerning Jesus Christ, so anything that has to do with My Lord in a comedy skit, is not funny to me. I think of how He died and that’s that. My opinion. 🙂
 
Oh there are tons more groups that I’m into… NWA isn’t whiteboy jams so much anymore- now its just older. I know back in the day it was a big hit with suburban kids so it caused over protective soccer moms to crusade against rap… I don’t think NWA is particularly good- I just find them amusing, and I thought the song “F the Police” was a very timely jam for that period of unrest. White kids love that BET garbage all too often… Well, not just white kids- anyone who says they like “rap” just like that mindless BET garbage. Naughty By Nature fan, huh? Cool… Yeah Run DMC should never have collabed with trashy Aerosmith… That sucks. Reverend Run is really lame now. His new CD sucks. I’ve never heard “Stomp”, who is that by? Most Christian rap groups are lame, but I’m serious… Check out Mars ILL… They are awesome- they give me hope.

You’ve got to download “Stomp” and listen to the words…it’s by Kirk Franklin and the CD is called “God’s Property, Nu Nation.” He’s a black guy and the song is good to dance to.

Oh, my son just called me while I was doing this and he knows Ghostface and he mentioned Jay-Z and 3-6 Mafia. Then he was like “who the heck you talking to?” And he laughed when I told him about the Forums!!
I’m not really into rap cuz I love classic rock. 🙂

Go to youtube.com and type this in: vanilla ice is quite the ladies man or you can copy and paste it…

This way you can see a small sample of just how bad it really is…by the way, this scene has one of our favorite lines in the whole movie…

Much as we can make fun of people who pronounce their religion as Jedi, the truth is that all religions were young once upon a time. Just imagine how much flack the first Hindu got for coming up with his faith, or the first Sikh, or the first Mormon (hint, his end was not pretty). While I find it wild that people would turn to the literature of a mortal writer for their religious inspiration, can you imagine in a couple centuries people referring to the six books of the Enlightener George Lucas? or the Sacred Movies?

SassyGal… I’m 18 years of age. Even though I’m young I listen to a lot of the older stuff… I really don’t know much Naughty By Nature stuff actually though… I like a lot of third generation mid 90s hip hop. Its all about being lyrical.

Whoa- your son knows Ghostface, and Jay-Z? 3-6 Mafia is funny too, lol… Even though they suck its still cool. I guess I’ve kinda met Cappadonna too (he was with Ghostface)… Once I tried to meet Trick Daddy but he ignored me. Its all good though. Ghostface and Cappadonna are actually really nice!

I don’t think it’s that silly. Jedis in the movies at least are bound by decency, it makes a lot more sense than some relgions.
