I think I agree with everything you said Excaliber.
Jehovahs Witnesses would never have more people with doctrates and letters after their names than the Catholic Church.
I know men with great responsibility in JWs who are chimney sweeps or forestry workers by trade!
But what university did Peter attend? he was a fisherman. Acts 4:13 calls the apostles “unlettered and ordinary”. yet Jesus chose them to preach his message, Not the learned Scribes and Pharisses.

As you say, I think Jehovah must be directing the organisation, (through Jesus Christ.)
How else could a bunch of no-bodys explode into a worldwide organisation that is doing the most extensive Bible education work in history?
JWs is a religious movement that has been fought tooth, tongue and pen by the dominant religions of the world. has been misrepresented, banned, cursed, mobbed. driven underground by nazi, faschist and soviet dictators.
Yet it has survived and flourished. people from all religions, nations and backgrounds continue to flow into it.
In Matthew 24 Jesus told apostles what the last days before his kingdom took over would be like. Bad.
Except Matt 24:14 said the good news of the kingdom would be preached in all the inhabited earth, then the end will come.
What other religion has 7 million volunteers out trying to tell people about the kingdom? What religion is Jehovah using to do that today?
Well first let me say that your point was well stated, and you have a scripture to support your view.
Know doubt the theocratic ministry
school has given you basic skills, and a Knowledge of your doctrine.

Now what you say is true about Jehovah’s witnesses activities. Now please listen to our side of the story.

Lets talk about persecution of Catholics, Just like Jehovah’s witnesses.

The Global preaching work of the Catholic Church (preaching dose not HAVE to be done only by door to door)

Lets also talk about the number of
volunteers in both these churches
Catholic nuns, monks, clergy,Religious, and the volunteers that work in hospitals and with the poor.

Hopefully we don’t attack eachother here, but help you to see that Jehovah’s witnesses are not the only ones doing Jehovah’s will.
Catholics were doing Jehovah’s will before C.T.Russel even thought of the bible students.

Hopefully this information won’t damage your faith, Jehovah loves you regardless of what you learn here.

you misunderstood what i had said. you seem to think there were never any pagan associations in Judeo/Christianity before the Church came around. not too sure when you think the Church got started, but that is for another thread. really, if you understand how the new testament came to be, this all might make more sense.

but i will quickly go into this pagan bit.

it is incorrect to believe everything associated with paganism is evil. the Jews in the OT offered up animals as a sacrifice to the one True God and there were pagans that offered sacrifices to many false gods. at that point in time, the offering itself of a sacrifice was not what was sinful, but the worshipping of false Gods was (and still is).
BTW the church was started in 33ad by our lord, what does your bible say it was started by chas.russell
if the pagans had a ritual of dunking someone in water for some religious worship of false gods, that does not make it evil when Catholics baptize with water for the One True God. playing with Easter eggs can be an innocent game or it can be a festive way to break a Catholic fast during lent. however, if you have some ritual with eggs because you think you’re pleasing some fertility goddess, then you are sinning.

so all i’m saying is stop worrying so much about the eggs (or incense etc), and look into the meaning behind what is being done with the eggs.

take the time to read what the early Church fathers said about the Holy Trinity. like i said before St Ignatius of Antioch was a disciple of Saint John the Apostle.
here is what a christian bible has to say about the Trinity please read it and you do not have to tell any one just read it and pray over it ,OK--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. The Holy Trinity, one GOD, and three divine persons, functions in an individual yet collective way:

He does not send the Son independently from the fullness of the divine nature. It is the Father and the Son and the Spirit doing the speaking. It cannot be otherwise, since They are consubstantial in Their divinity.

I have seen John 1:1 written in greek. Two different words are used! Check it out for yourself.
I did, here. This is the literal translation:

“In beginning was the word and the word was toward the God and God was the word.”

Your translators messed up the word order of that last bit.

Note also that your guys translated the same word as “the” in two places and “a” in another - to match their theology.

Have you told your Bible Study leader that you are visiting a Catholic website? I expect that you will be told not to.

God bless you with the real truth,

Ruthie

thanks Ruthie. Very well done. What a cool site!😉

That site shows the different greek words well. (I tried to copy and paste but the greek letters play up. The site shows it well.

Notice who the word (Jesus) was with is: ho theos The greek letters (top bold line on site ) look like: ton qeon (The God)
“ho” is like english “THE”. used when there is only one. So = Jesus was with “The God.” (the Father)
Same in verse 2.

But the second time God is used in verse 1 (refering to who the Word was theos is “qeos” not “ton qeon”
A differnet word! AND without ton “The” in front!

but the english translation at the bottom ignores this! and translates them both “God” with a capital. Anyone reading this in English thinks the Word is with God and is God.

I sure hope that makes some sense. Sorry. i had to read it about 10 times to understand! Jason beduhn (not a JW) wrote a good book called “Truth in Translation” that compares 9 English Bibles to the original greek. To the horror of NWT critics he often found the NWT was the best on controversial scriptures. John 1:1 is on page 113.

heres a quote: "in John 1:1 the Word is not the one-and-only God, but is a god, or a divine being. i know this sounds strange … but the fact remains that that is what John wrote. His purpose… to avoid the notion that God the father himself incarnated as Christ. The one incarnated was somehow distinct from “God”, while still being “a god” " - end of quote.

Thats why the NWT uses “God” and “a god”. Many think it is to support JW belief, (like Bill Pick said a few posts back.) No, it is genuinely what John wrote.
If the Bible is God’s word it is important to have as accurate a translation as possible.

As for your last comment, why would i avoid a Catholic website where people are asking about JW’s? JWs are always out trying to get people to show interest.
🙂

Thanks Bill for post #42. I will read them now.
👍
But I shouldn’t hog your website anymore today.
:o

Thanks Excaliber for post #41.
You are right, the Catholic church does some lovely stuff and has some awesome, generous people in it. (And the contribution to art and architecture is unmatched!) 👍
I am not convinced however that they are the ones entrusted with the preaching of the Kingdom message.
What do you teach God’s Kingdom is?

(Got to look up what Bill Pick researched for me) :o

Thanks Bill Pick for your list of texts in #42.
Very interesting until I got to the end.

Then you sited a scripture that clearly teaches the Trinity.
1 John 5:7,8.

Do not ever quote that scripture and say it is from the Bible.
The sentence that proves the Trinity was added about 1500 by Trinitarians trying to support their doctrine. Not mentioned before. Thus, it is left out of most modern translations.
Go on Wikipedia and type in the verse, or “Comma Johanneum” (it has it’s own name it is so infamous)
Serious mate. Adding stuff to the Bible is not good!
What translation of the Bible are you using?

Now you see why serious Bible students decide they need a fresh translation without errors. But the NWT comes out and people scream: “They’re a cult that wrote their own Bible!”

Anyway, sorry to get annoyed.
The rest of the scriptures are legitimate, But I can’t talk about them all.
Some, (if you believe the Trinity) sure seem to agree with it. Is there one or two especially you want me to comment on?

well for one you are reading the most corrupt bible, get a christian bible and read john 1;1 the 3 or 4 guys that put your bible together knew nothing of greek ,its a fact so look it up,the watch tower has you brainwash, all christian believe in the trinity. thank you and have a good day PS pray to Our Lord and He will set you free of the jw

When did Jesus command that his apostles go and make deciples?
Who was he speaking with, because obviously the Jehovah’s witnesses organiization did not exist?

And who has made the most deciples, The Catholic Church or Jehovah’s witnesses?

by the way check out the Catholic encyclopedia on this website, you can get lots of accurate information there.

I do not know much about Greek, but I can tell you that *Theos *and *Theon *are not “different words.” They both mean “God.”

And the lack of “the” in front of “God” means that there was no article there. Thus inserting “a” is wrong.

I didn’t ask why you would avoid it. I just said your Bible study leader will probably tell you to stay away. Ask him, and let me know!

I am confused…what is the purpose in this. You know that Jehovah’s witnesses are OVER
pertective of the internet, so you think it wise for him to advertise to
other Jehovah’s witnesses that he is here?
Are you trying to get him in trouble?

Seems like every time a Jehovah’s witness comes here, a Catholic trys to inforce watchtowers internet restrictions.

Is there a purpose that Catholics would be concerned with Watchtowers internet restrictions.

I don’t think this is good advise, because it in know way benefits him.
Or do you think he needs to be counciled for being here?

There is no word for “a” or “an” in greek.
A deffinate noun has “the”. An indeffinate noun leaves it off.

In english we usually add “a”. it is not adding a word, just following the rules of english grammer which tell us it is not correct to say: ‘Snoopy is dog’. we would say ‘Snoopy is a dog.’

Best regards. 🙂

Here’s some more clarification on the Greek from Jeff Schwehm

catholicxjw.com/Wordwasgod.html

Understanding and Translating John 1:1**

The conflict between the JWs and Christians is the third part of John 1:1. The JWs translate
that third part as follows:

“the Word was a god”.

Christians translate the third part of John 1:1 as follows:

“the Word was God.”

Most often JWs’ assume that Christians believe that the third part of John 1:1 means that
Christians are saying that God the Father and the Word (who is Jesus-God the Son) are the
same person. Again, the JWs are making the mistake that Christians who believe in the
Trinity are actually Modalists. This is not what the Church has taught with regard to how we
are to understand John 1:1. In fact, St. John is not saying in this verse that God the Father
and Jesus are the same person. What St. John is actually telling us is that Jesus has all the
qualities and attributes of God the Father.

It is just like someone calling me the son of a man. My father is a human being. Therefore, I
am also a human being and I also have the same human nature that my father has. Similarly,
Jesus is the Son of God and has all of the attributes of God or to put it another way Jesus has
the same divine nature as God the Father.

The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures**

First of all, I want to point out that I am not an expert in Biblical Greek. However, after much
research and study using the Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures, I
discovered that the New World Translation was not as faithful to the Greek text as it claimed
to be.

The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of the Greek Scriptures is published by the Jehovah’s
Witnesses. It contains the Greek text of the New Testament on one side of the page with the
New World Translation of the New Testament on the other side of the page. Underneath the
Greek text of the New Testament in this book is a literal word for word English translation.

When dealing with John 1:1, the JWs’ Kingdom Interlinear Version of the Greek Scriptures
says the following in defense of the New World Translations rendering of “and the Word was
a god.”

“The God with whom the Word, or Logos, was originally designated here by the Greek
expression ό θεός, that is the•os’ preceded by the definite article ho. This is an articular
the•os’. The articular construction of the noun points to an identity, a personality, whereas a
singular anarthrous predicate noun preceding the verb points to a quality about someone.
Therefore, John’s statement that the Word, or Logos, was “a god” or “divine” or “godlike”
does not mean that he was the God with whom he was. It merely expresses a certain quality
about the Word, or Logos, but it does not identify him as one and the same God himself.”

From the explanation above, the JWs’ believe that Jesus is a god in the sense that he is
godlike or an inferior god to God the Father. There are a couple of problems with this view.
First, their own Bible contradicts this view in Colossians 2:9 which states that in Christ “all
the fullness of the divine quality dwells bodily.” In other words, Christ has all of the qualities
of the divine and not just a part of it. The second problem with this is explained in the
following section.

Can Jesus be referred to as the God (ho the•os’)?

The Jehovah’s Witnesses say that in John 1:1 when St. John says and “the Word was with
God” the Greek expression used for Almighty God in this verse is “the God” or (ho the•os’).
In their Bible encyclopedia entitled Insight On the Scriptures it says the following on page 54:

”Additionally, the word for “god” (Gr., the•os’) in its second occurrence in the verse is
significantly without the definite article “the” (Gr., ho). Regarding this fact, Ernst Haenchen, in
a commentary on the Gospel of John (chapters 1-6), stated: “[the•os’] and [ho the•os’] (‘god,
divine’ and ‘the God’) were not the same thing in this period. . . . In fact, for the . . . Evangelist,
only the Father was ‘God’ ([ho the•os’]; cf. ÞJohn Ü17:3); ‘the Son’ was subordinate to him
(cf. ÞJohn Ü14:28).”

The problem with this explanation is that in this same article in their “Insight” publication, the
Jehovah’s Witnesses admit that St. John uses the phrase ho the•os’ to refer to Jesus. Notice
the following:

”On the occasion of Jesus’ appearance to Thomas and the other apostles, which had
removed Thomas’ doubts of Jesus’ resurrection, the now-convinced Thomas exclaimed to
Jesus: “My Lord and my God! [literally, “The Lord of me and the God (ho The•os’) of me!”].”
(John 20:24-29) Some scholars have viewed this expression as an exclamation of
astonishment spoken to Jesus but actually directed to God, his Father.” - Insight on the
Scriptures page 55

This can also be demonstrated in their Kingdom Interlinear Version as the following scans
demonstrate.

Kingdom Interlinear Scan of John 1:1

Kingdom Interlinear Scan of John 20:28

Thanks Rolltide for your post.
So we see, that if the NWT was changing the Bible to suit JW they would have changed John 20:28 too.
But it uses “ho theos” there, so we translate it “God.”
Bill Pick should have added that to his list of trinity support scriptures instead of that suspicious one.

Interesting that you don’t think the Catholic Church was intrusted with the preaching work.
When did Jesus command that his apostles go and make deciples?
Who was he speaking with, because obviously the Jehovah’s witnesses organiization did not exist?
My mate excaliber!

Intelligent question. Who did Jesus give this command to?
Jesus preached to the Jews. But most of them rejected him. So he said: “The kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation producing its fruits.” (Matthew 21:43.)

Who would that be?
Get your Bibles and check out Acts 1:8. Jesus says: “…you will be witnesses of me… to the most distant parts of the earth.”
Who was he talking to? Read the verses leading up to it.
He gave the command to preach to his faithful followers. The “Christians.”
History shows they went to work. Soon Christian congregations were springing up everywhere despite fierce, often violent opposition.
This was the nation the Kingdom would be entrusted to. Faithful Christians!

But in Matthew 24:14 Jesus showed the preaching work would be done again at the end of the age. (Read from verse 3 to get the context)
So apart from the first century there would be another, greater preaching of God’s Kingdom!

Now, please get a Bible and read what our Lord Jesus said in Matthew 13:24-30. (Illustration of Wheat and weeds.)
Confusing? His disciples thought so, so they went up to him afterwards and asked what it meant.
So now read Matthew 13:36-43 for Jesus explanation.

Therefore, the Christian church would be infiltrated by Satan! He would plant weeds. (false Christians!).
Did Jesus prophecy come true? Of course. In Acts 20:29 Paul called them “oppressive wolves” that would creep in after he was gone.
History shows that soon different factions of “Christians” were popping up with different ideas. That is what the councils of the Catholic Church were trying to sort out. “Which faction has the truth?”
By the 15th century the protestants broke away and heaps of “Christian” churches were formed.

By the 20th century there were thousands of Relgions, sects and cults that claimed to be “Christian.” Which were the real ones?

The stage was set for the end of Jesus prophecy. Remember: In Matthew 13:37-43 Jesus said at the end of the age (the same time the major preaching work would be done - matthew 24:14) it would become clear who were the True Christians and therefore who Jesus would use to do the preaching work. Exciting stuff!

Now, a Question to all you good Catholics: Tell me:

WHAT ARE THE IDENTIFYING MARKS OF TRUE CHRISTAINITY?

Please reply.

My mate excaliber!

The good deeds of the followers. Naming John Paul II who defeated Communism without a single bullet fired by him, and Mother Theresa. Both of them were contemporary to you. They are the identifying marks of true Christianity. Now, you tell me the example of good deeds done by any JW.

Ahhhh!!! Finaly someone that can offer me an explanation. I look forward to reading your scriptures
and following your logic.

Now I have not read them yet, but the main Identifying mark of a Christian is LOVE.
Jesus specifically said you know his followers because they will have LOVE among themselves.

The second greatest command is to love your neighbors as yourself.

Becarfull with the topic of love, and the organization…I have an ace up my sleeve. LOL
