Im Catholic and my wife is Jewish, so when they come to the door (both the J-dubs and the Mormons) we simply state we have PLENTY of religion in this house, thank you very much, point at the Mary statue on the porch and the mezuzah in the door, and invite them in for a glass of wine. that usually takes care of the problem.
This is nothing short of genius. 😂😂😂

@adf417 - another winner. That’s brilliant.

Contrary to the experiences of many Catholics with JW’s, I (a Jew) once had a very pleasant experience with a JW, whom I invited into my home. He explained the JW beliefs to me, I asked questions, he responded politely, and then asked me what Jews believe about Jesus and G-d. I think we both learned a lot about each other’s religions. I had the impression he had never discussed matters of faith before with a Jewish person.

I love discussions with J-dubs. I askthem to come in when I will have time for a long discussion, and I will not let them use a New World Bible translation. I use an RSV-CE but will let them use a KJV if they perfer.

I had two over once and we were discussing God’s name. I kept refering them to Matthew 28:19. I pointed out to them that Hebrew that they were trying to say gave God’s name as Jahovah was a dead language hundreds of years before Christ and did not notate vowels which were inferred from context. Therefore no one from recent times could possibly know how the early (pre-exile) jews pronounced His name.

It pays to be able to find your way around a Bible, and know some history.

I enjoy talking with them. I will probably never convert one but maybe I can plant a seed. The lastone I talked with said she had never met a Catholic who knew the Bible the way I did.

JWs are always welcome at my home, but they don’t come around anymore. I think that my Shroud of Turin photos may have discouraged them as this seems to be something that they know nothing about.
I recommend that all Catholics should have some of these photos which are available at shroud.com.
Also you should study up on the subject. Excellect books are available. Recommended are:
THE SHROUD, Wilson, 2010
THE TEMPLARS AND THE SHROUD OF CHRIST, Frale
TEST THE SHROUD, Antonacci, 2015

Tell him he might possibly be of the annointed, to partake of their next yearly communion…he can be heaven bound

If he refuses, tell him he will not resurrect, for you must partake per John 6

Something I found so tragically sad about this organization is that they can never hope to see heaven since the cut off date was 1935. They can only hope to live in an earthly paradise. That’s not what Jesus promised us. That should be a major red flag to these people.

While I realize the comments about dogs and chalk body outlines surrounded by Watchtower and Awake! magazines are made in jest, really, Catholics should take this as an opportunity to evangelize and plant seeds.

Here’s the thing. The JW folks are being sent out on missions, hoping to make converts. They are presumably equipped (brainwashed?) to talk to people and possibly handle some initial objections. And although their weapons are falsehood, they are still, nonetheless, equipped.

While we Catholics do not go door-to-door, what excuse do we have to remain unequipped, especially since we have the truth? I say, Catholics, we need to equip ourselves with a full knowledge of our faith, the Scriptures and some really good apologetic material. We need to be ready with good Trinitarian defenses because, really when they come to your door, THEY are the ones seeking the truth. It is up to US to show it to them. So that when they come, WE can tell them, “Come in. I would like to share with you about Jesus.”

No Catholic should turn away a Jehovah’s Witness, but in the same breath, no Catholic should be unequipped. But every time we slam a door in their faces, we fail in our evangelical mission. Even if we don’t hit the streets, we should be able to take control of the conversation and evangelize THEM.

I’m sorry, but when JWs are outside your door and you hear them plotting about how they’ll do this and this and this when you open the door so that you’re forced to listen to them, no, thank you.

Well yes. If you’ve been forced to listen to them, then you’ve lost control of the situation. Part of being an equipped Catholic is to take control of the conversation in your own home. If they’re plotting, then there’s no good faith there. But if they’re not plotting, and are just genuine believers, a properly equipped Catholic can control the situation, and will not be forced to do anything.

I just find it lamentable that Catholics’ first instinct is to slam doors on JW’s, rather than studying the moving parts and apologetics of the Catholic faith so that we can evangelize THEM. In the meantime, the JW’s are going door to door with their lies because people like Catholics are unwilling to face them in what could be a opportunity. Often, these JW’s are only the front liners. They usually do not carry malice with them, and are soil for the seeding and can be evangelized. Some may be more hardened. And in any case, as the homeowner, it is you who decides when the welcome has been overstayed.

The problem I find is that JW’s evangelize, we don’t. And we will answer for that.

What?

First off, no one intimidated anyone with anything. In my case, they rang the doorbell, and he barked and ran to the door - as he always does. They clearly didn’t like that, so they left. They didn’t come back. He’s 87 pounds and muscular. He’s not a vicious untrained mongrel. He’s a well trained Malinois who spends most days lounging on the couch watching TV 😂😂. And as for the gun comment, I seriously doubt that person meant he’d pull a shotgun on JWs. Good Lord. It was an offhand comment that had nothing to do with JWs or anyone else. I’ve heard the same thing.
And in any case, as the homeowner, it is you who decides when the welcome has been overstayed.
Yep. And as the homeowner, I choose to not talk to them. I give the Mormons time, willingly - they actually DO things for people, to include a lot of disaster relief to people who AREN’T Mormons. Plus they’re far more friendly than any JW that’s ever been on my porch.

I quit answering the door when it’s the JW’s. They would always leave their Watchtower stuck in my door open to the anti Catholic stuff. Since I have gotten a St Francis statue for the porch, they haven’t been back.

They are doing what they believe to be right. I try and be as polite as I can when I tell them to shoo.

Just invite him to volunteer with you at the next Red Cross blood drive sponsored by your parish.😎

Great idea! Effective, and much more charitable than pepper spray.

I’ve never had a JW come to my door. I must not be living right.

@on_the_hill Maybe you want to pray for a visit.

That’s what a neighbor of mine did. He found it a good opener, to say “I’m so glad you’ve come! It’s the Virgin Mary who brought you here … I’ve been praying for you.” 🙂

You could try this
