While I realize the comments about dogs and chalk body outlines surrounded by Watchtower and Awake! magazines are made in jest, really, Catholics should take this as an opportunity to evangelize and plant seeds.
Here’s the thing. The JW folks are being sent out on missions, hoping to make converts. They are presumably equipped (brainwashed?) to talk to people and possibly handle some initial objections. And although their weapons are falsehood, they are still, nonetheless, equipped.
While we Catholics do not go door-to-door, what excuse do we have to remain unequipped, especially since we have the truth? I say, Catholics, we need to equip ourselves with a full knowledge of our faith, the Scriptures and some really good apologetic material. We need to be ready with good Trinitarian defenses because, really when they come to your door, THEY are the ones seeking the truth. It is up to US to show it to them. So that when they come, WE can tell them, “Come in. I would like to share with you about Jesus.”
No Catholic should turn away a Jehovah’s Witness, but in the same breath, no Catholic should be unequipped. But every time we slam a door in their faces, we fail in our evangelical mission. Even if we don’t hit the streets, we should be able to take control of the conversation and evangelize THEM.
