Bible Steve, the website you posted is not Catholic, as in Catholic in union with Rome.

Can you prove this “Rev” Dr. Is in good standing with the Church?

What archdiocese is he in?

Who is his Bishop?

I made the point that from the time of the 1st century to today, there were millions of people who viewed themselves as Christian but didn’t believe the Trinity, that it wasn’t some JW thing that popped up in the last 100 years.

I was asked for support for this statement…

I pointed to the Wikpedia article on “NonTrinitarianism” which had links to many, many groups throughout the last 2,000 years who objected to the Trinity.

Amongst those Wikipedia Links was reference to this group who called themselves Catholic… I found it interesting there was a Catholic group who objected to the Trinity…

There’s no need to argue with me about this group, because I don’t know anything about them… I simply found them to be ANOTHER example of people who view themselves as Christian and yet disagree with the Trinity doctrine…

I dont need to argue it Bible Steve. They are not catholics. They can call themselves what they like, as some other non catholics attempt to do all the time.

I had to make clarification for those who may be viewing this thread and not posting, thinking that link was in fact, a catholic link.

I repeat, they are NOT catholics. They can say they are Jehovah, that does not make it so.

All they prove, is they are living in a fantasy world, and MISREPRESENTING themselves, which is not a “point” for anti trinitarians, Bible Steve!

Yes, of course I would expect the “official” Roman Catholic Church wouldn’t agree with their position or what they call themselves.

But, the fact is they believe as they do… and they choose to call themselves as they do…

That’s their business… actually that’s between them and YHWH… not you or I…

I’m simply emphasizing the point that this Trinity/non-Trinity thing isn’t a matter of JW’s vs. everyone else. Millions of people from the time of Christ forward have loved God and Jesus, and have viewed Jesus as the Son of God… not God the Son…

It’s not just a JW thing.

Its the Catholic Church! Its universal.

Roman is only ONE rite of nearly 30!

I am a Latin Rite.

Not ALL of us are. But, all Catholics are Catholics regardless of rite.

You would know why am am upset if you knew that evangelicals use ROMAN as a prejorative.

My apologies if that is the case… I’ll have to go read up on that…

I only highlighted the word “official” because this other group was also calling themselves Catholic… I used the word “official” to simply represent what most people would understand to be the standard Catholic Church… there was absolutely no mocking…

FWIW, I don’t even know the difference between a Roman and Latin rite…

Its not offensive to call me a Roman Catholic, as I am in the Latin Rite.
I am merely telling you that there are other rites in the Church. The Eastern Rites, are not called Latin/Roman.

You ignore the majority of rites in the Church by calling it the Roman Catholic Church, and join in with the Calvinists, and others that call us Roman Catholics to intentionally IGNORE the fact that the Church is UNIVERSAL.

Its simply best to say, Catholic Church so as to acknowledge ALL Catholics in union with Rome.😉 🙂

I would certain welcome the opportunity to find anyone here who can converse with me without blowing off into anger if I use the wrong word, whether it be Roman or Latin Rite.

On this discussion board, I daily get slammed with words like “brain-washed, liar, cult, borg, falsetower, pharasaic murders, check your brain at the door, etc” in describing my religious faith and leaders within my congregation.

In that context, I hope you can cut me some slack if I mistakenly use the word Roman instead of Latin.

I’m simply looking for good Bible discussion with others…

I am NOT mad at you, but your society that misrepresents us this way.

Your watchtower calls us this, therefore I understand your confusion, you have trusted what THEY decide to call us, rather than find out what WE call ourselves!

That would be as silly as if I decided to consult the CCC on what you ought to be called, no matter what your society calls itself.

You took THEIR word for it Bible Steve!

I would be more than happy to invite some of my fellow catholics here not of the Latin Rite to help you see this point if you wish.

By the way, the term orthodox merely means correct belief.

Both the schismatic Eastern Orthodox use this term as well as the Cathlolic Church in union with Rome.😃

It can be confusing.

Especially when you get bogus information from a watchtower.

My church Does not call Jehovah’s Witnesses by any other name than what they call themselves!

YOURS can not, and will not do the same.

JWs had a similar thing a few years ago with “Jehovah’s Witnesses” and “Jehovah’s Christian Witnesses”.
And today the first thing to get to any of them is to call them a “Jehovah”, “Jehover” or a “Jehovah Witness”.
Roman Catholic is appropriate when describing the Catholics of the Latin Rite or any Catholic from Rome, but it is frowned on because of the negative usage detractors intend with it.
Think of the way certain segments of black society use the “n” word to talk about themselves and each other but if used by whites or other ethnic groups it is a severe insult.
