That Haaretz article is behind a paywall, at least for me, so I don’t know what, if anything, the paper is saying about the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Here is a link to the (unsigned) official statement released by the Patriarchate yesterday (Friday). It is hardly what anyone, whatever their agenda, might be tempted to describe as a ringing denunciation of The Donald and all his works. It’s mainly generalities and abstractions. This is the closest the statement gets to naming names:

Israelis and Palestinians should reach an agreement that corresponds in some way to their legitimate aspirations and that respects the principles of justice. Unilateral decisions that change the current configuration of the city will not bring benefit, but only new tensions and they will remove the possibility of peace-making.

Read the whole thing. It’s quite short:

hamas doesn’t need much of an excuse to bomb israel.

was the status quo good for either side?

The people in Gaza have suffered a lot already…People who have nothing to do…poor children…

then let the people rise up and throw off the shackles that hold them subject to hamas

yes, easier said than done but many are complicit with hamas.

I think that the Israelis largely agree that the Gaza they don’t need.
They will never conquer Gaza

" People who have nothing to do. Poor children…"
I repeat what I said…as many times as it takes.

I followed the stories of the war and there is no chance of imagining what people go through .To the extremes
Children getting used to bombs and airstrikes?used as human shields?
It is just empathy and it fails.
I do not know if it will or won’ t,Anasthasy. But it has to stop. This is inhumane for the people.
It is a deep conflict, years and years long with identity involved. Very very difficult.
Perhaps yours is another perspective, and a good one…from the point of view of the people in Israel, that they do not need Gaza,I do not know that. But if it is,it should also start a deep analysis within Israel…
I also read that doctors in hospitals in Israel would treat Palestinians in grave situations.
There is this connection between persons that has to be heard.

Yes.

The Pope, the Eastern bishops, the Orthodox Bishops, and the Coptic leaders of the area are all voicing their concern.

Sadly Christians are not a concern of the US government. The US government is anti Christian, save for the Christian Zionists but only in so far as they are Zionists.

I think I’ll trust those religious leaders “on the ground,” over Mr. Trump.

At their joint news conference in Paris a few hours ago, Netanyahu and Macron showed every sign of being on the best of terms. They smilingly agreed to disagree about Trump/Jerusalem while enthusiastically agreeing about everything else. Let’s see how it goes tomorrow in Brussels, but the first leg of Netanyahu’s trip was hardly the “lions’ den” that the Jerusalem Post had been expecting.

Catholic bishops or Republican talking points? The latter often seems to win out.

Israel airstrikes, Gaza rockets amid tensions over Jerusalem
it says israel was just defending itself. should hamas be allowed to bomb israel with immunity?

gaza can become a Palestinian state today, why aren’t they?

why hasn’t the rest of the arab world provided humanitarian aid to gaza through the egyptian border?
The Israel Defense Forces said aircraft had targeted what it identified as four facilities belonging to Hamas – the Palestinian Islamist group that controls Gaza – early Saturday in response to rockets fired into southern Israel from Gaza.
