Gay activism has made itself the new minority. This appeal to Catholics to be tolerant would naturally follow the Catholic predisposition to help those in need and those being discriminated against. The Catholic church had better wise up about the difference between loving the sinner and aiding the sin.
There are so many in the church that have obfuscated this difference in an effort to continue to have the church aid their sin. It is a convuluted mess that parents of good Catholic families need to insist must stop.

I know the Pope has gotten some good press lately on his pastoral side shining, contrary to what many thought when he was elected, but to be honest, I would really like to see him get royally ticked off and do some serious house-cleaning with our Bishops and priests.
I’m glad Jesus promised the gates of hell won’t prevail, or I’d be getting real worried…
Me too. Catholic families are suffering from within and without. We need support from within.

The Boston Globe usually has at least one or two (and sometimes several) pro-gay related stories in their paper every day. The media continues to hammer away with their agenda when it comes to this issue … Why? Since only 1-2% of the population is gay, I’m not sure why but it probably has something to do with the secular mindset and beliefs. I also just want it to end!
It has to do with the promotion of the idea that everyone can do whatever they want sexually. If homosexual sex is justified then contraception, abortion, adultery, fornication, beastiality, masturbation, polygamy, child-adult relations, pornography. lust and everything else can be ok also. No limits on fun as long as nobody is being hurt. Since 90%+ of adults are involved in one or more of these activities, it’s difficult not to promote homosexuality in an effort to spread “kindness”.

Jesuit University says support to gay organizations is “the Catholic thing” to do

****Santa Clara, Calif, Nov. 04, 2005 (CNA) - An official from the Jesuit-run Santa Clara University in California told Catholic News Agency that hosting a two-day long conference, on how to promote opportunities for gays and lesbians at Catholic colleges is “the Catholic” way to act as opposed to highlighting the intrinsic immorality of homosexual acts.

As the Vatican prepares a document reiterating its stance, particularly against homosexuality in seminaries, the aim of the conference entitled “Out There” was to highlight scholarships and student affairs being created to cater specifically to gays and lesbians at Catholic institutions.

The conference brought together representatives from the Universities of Georgetown, Loyola Marymount, Gonzaga, Fordham, DePaul, La Salle, Marquette and Emory, as well as Boston College, and College of the Holy Cross. Out of the plus 40 Catholic universities represented, thirteen were Jesuit institutions like Santa Clara.

Some 150 attendees were invited to choose from workshops like, “Curriculum and Same-Sex Marriage in a Jesuit University” and “Can I Be Gay and Catholic?”

The dean’s office and Santa Clara’s campus ministry helped finance the event, which was organized largely by English professor Linda Garber.

Just one more reason why the Vatican should copyright the words Roman Catholic and Catholic and not allow CINO colleges and universities to use either designation.

I’m a little confused. I am a Protestant so don’t have a great knowledge of Catholic hierarchy, but I was under the impression that all Catholic insititutions are under the authority of the pope. If this is true how can Catholic schools teach and practice things contrary to papal mandates? I have been very confused by this and would appreciate it if someone could clear it up for me.

I’m a Catholic, Vincent, and I’m confused too. I’d love to understand how ‘Catholic’ institutions are supposed to be governed. It’s not being done well, in many cases - and sometimes even as low as the elementary school level.

Or in short “Institutionalized Cafeteria Catholicism”…

I am not an expert here, so please feel free to correct me. I think that Catholic institutions of higher learning are only answerable to the magesterium if they sign the “Mandatum.” Since most of the well known ones will not do this, under the guise of “academic freedom” most Catholic Universities and Colleges are not much different than secular and state institutions.

I always say that when “Catholic” colleges and universities show as much interest in handing down the truth of Catholicism as they do toward their sports teams things might change. Needless to say, I am not optimistic.

Either Bishops allow them too or they have split off from a diocese but retain a Catholic name.

This has been a problem for quite some time. Either way, the local Bishop should take action. In a few cases, they have - some have taken away the Catholic identity of previously Catholic schools.

If they are not true to the Magisterium, then they are not Catholic and they should not be allowed to pretend that they are.

As previously posted the local bishop does oversee (loosely) the universities. Although the pope is responsible for all the bishops, it is not like he is the CEO, he has more like a dotted line responsibility on an organization chart. As the successors of the apostles, all the bishops, including the pope, have a direct line responsibility to God. Each bishop is the shepherd of his flock, a Vicar of Christ, a pontiff, the decision maker in his diocese. Therefore the pope will only step in when things get badly out of hand e.g. the bishop is teaching a heresy. However, the bishops do have the responsibility to follow the mandates, regulations, etc. as promulgated by the pope but there is not a formal policing of this by the Vatican.

The local bishop also has responsibility for the elementary and high schools. But the schools are autonomous (at least in my archdiocese) in that they pretty much run their own show with little interference from the local bishop. There are guidelines regarding religious education such as a teacher must pass a catechist course to teach the religion classes and the teacher is also supposed to be Catholic to teach religion (Yes, there are many non-Catholics teaching our children in Catholic schools.) So the quality of the schools is basically a function of the capabilities of the administrators – for elementary schools that would be the principal, pastor, education commission, etc.

The answer to the vexing problem with homosexuality has to be - to offer the cure for the disorder ; and we do have a cure …
Untill then, many would feel sorry for them and try to make accomodations, which can only worsen the problems - something like, in days before insulin, continuing to offer sugars for someone in a diabetic coma …

Homosexuality has to be seen for what it is - an addiction /bondage - like many others ; in this particular situation , due to father hunger and envy/unforgivenes / anger for women/mothers ( and the reverse situation, for lesbianism …) manifested by seductuve behavior towards men, to gain control and competitive behavior towards women

Could it have started in The Garden , by the seductive spirit - to the extent that Adam had allowed the serpent entry into The Garden , even though he was to guard it 😦 and when the serpent implies that The Father is a liar, Adam does not defend Him ( or his wife )…
The cure for homosexuality would be , aiming for the God given dignity , by reclaiming the God ordained role …reciving The Father Love , in The Heart of The Lord …( St. John, as the youngest of the disciples probably related best to this Father Love - and hence the beloved )Eucharistic Adoartion, Rosary devotion , fasting and scriptures - the OT wars and heroisms and even their fall would all be healing …Misguided compassion that send the message that they are incurable can only reinforce the inner lepper identity…and infect more …
May the Church, The Jesuits and all heroically embrace massive healing programs for this plague …
Rome probably was afflicted with this virus from having been a conquering culture and The Lord might have wanted The Church to be there , to uproot this tree of evil, once and for all… through The Father Love , in The Lord
Lot of families with no fathers …with all the wars and breakup in families , same situation now again rampant , in the west …
May our priests keep their dignity and identity as the Face of The Father …in being one with The Lord …( The Church as The Bride …nuns and all as children of The Church , for firmer identity, in these times ) and blasphemies like the davinci code and the lie of homosexuality would melt away, in The Glory of The Father…

It’s sad to see that so many Jesuits and Jesuit institutions have gone completely off the rails. Pray for them.
Where are Benedict XIV, Clement XIII, and Clement XIV when you need them? 😉

I think they’re awesome!!! You would too if you were in my place. If Jesus was here right now, He would reach out to the LGBT people. Just like He did to the stigmatized of His time. This whole thread is about that, you’re all stigmatizing your brothers & sisters. Its sad. God is compassion and mercy. The Jesuits understand that. Plus who are you to judge, or even slander Priests chosen before hand by Jesus Our Lord??? You might want to go to Confession. God bless!

Correct, and He would tell them to give up their lives of sin. And He would welcome them back when they did.

If they did not, He would let them go, just as He did the rich young man and those who rejected His teachings on the Eucharist.

The Catholic Church does the same now. It accepts all who seek Christ, and challenges them to give up on their lives of sin.

And do you seek to emulate Christ by resurrecting dead threads. 😛 This thread is almost a decade old.

Brad hit the nail on the head. If it was just about what gays want they would not have gotten so much support. Everyone else is embracing sexual sin also and so society becomes corrupt.

If you are not homosexual why does it affect you, to the point that you’re on this site slandering Jesuit Priests? May I remind you slander is a mortal sin. In this case grave matter may be identified by the many people reading your unscientific thoughts. I found this site desperately seeking spiritual direction, but to start off you’re not a doctor or a Priest. You just have no life and life to gossip. Get a life, and leave the LGBT Community alone, we’ve suffered enough! The Catholic thing is to treat us with compassion, because we are beloved children of God. Talking bad about us, or those who understand us is not Catholic.
