He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via Solomon (1 Chronicles 22:8-10, 2 Chronicles 7:18)
from Wikipeduia Jewish Messiah
Also from “Mashiach” by Jacob Immanuel Schochet pg 37:
“The only qualification of his origin is that he is a descendant of King David through the lineage of his son Solomon.”
The 1 Chronicle passage is David talking to Solomon about the earthly temple and kingdom.
Re the 2 Chronicle passage (cf also 1 Kings 9:1-9):
2 Chron 7:17-19 "…if you walk before me as David your father did, and do all I command, and observe my decrees… I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father when I said, "You shall never fail to have a man to rule over Israel.
But if you turn away and forwake the decrees and commands I have given you and go off to serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot Israel from my land, which I have given them, and will reject this temple…
The 2 Chronicles passage also sounds more like the earthly kingdom and temple. But allowing that it could have a double application and be a reference to the Messianic king/dom, it still doesn’t uphold the Messiah having to be from Solomon’s line, since Solomon did not remain faithful. Consider the following passage concerning Solomon’s later years; note especially God’s words to Solomon which I have bolded:
1 Kings 11:1-13 King Solomon however loved many foreign women… They were from nations about which the LORD had told the Israelites “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. …, and his wives led him astray. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been.
…Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molech the detestable god of Ammonites. …
The LORD became angry with Solomon… Although He had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command. So the LORD said to Solomon, “**Since this is your attitude and you have not kept My covenant and My decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you **and give it to one of your subordinates. Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. …Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but…”
The passages taken together (Kings and Chronicles) would actually lead one to think that the Messiah would not be from Solomon’s line.
